I don't even like Half-Life 2, but it definitely left an impression on me from my childhood. The desolate solitude of the early to mid game, with its abandoned civilization "rapture" vibe. The sort of dead, being eaten world with all the leeching Combine tech really does live rent free my head, had a great impact on my imagination.

It just doesn't have very fun shooting mechanics, and Valve cleverly disguises it with gimmicks but I prefer FPS that don't have "stellar pacing" and don't constantly "add new gameplay elements" - I like games that just have a very solid core and add to it.
