Similar to Planetiles in that it's a city builder that has some tetris reminiscent stuff to it, but with a deck builder aspect and more choices and consequences akin to Reigns. One of those games where you are always gonna lose and it's just a matter of trying to hold on as long as possible, but there's also a persistent campaign associated with it.

A somewhat light strategy game that is really cool. You try to take over the world by controlling people with fear. Gameplay is simpler and easier than it looks but satisfying and the whole atmosphere and loop makes the game reminiscent of Death Note + Twilight Zone.

You're the soul of dead samurai and trapped in time loop. Posses the body of random pedestrian, ninjas, prostitutes, ninja prostitutes, shadow the hedgehog, loli with a knife, or even your own sister to solve the mystery, save your non blood related sister and break the loop.

anon, it's not to be taken literally, it's a general observation on how the vast majority of those suggestion sheets are always filled with the same 4-5 genres and barely any other, and the few that are there are usually shit, short, or games that have been suggested so many times they barely even qualify as hidden or lesser known
>>
>>697953864
(22 reviews)
>>
>>697953384
It's not really meant to be an extensive list, just a list of obscure steam games I've personally enjoyed. That's the main reason why some genres are over-/underrepresented. I really like retro-styled FPS games for example, so they're going to show up pretty frequently. But I'm always happy to take suggestions for additions. Also, there's almost no turn-based tactics games in there.
>>
>>697953890
>go through the effort of precisely counting that there are 37 first person shooters in the list
>ask not to be taken literally when a mistake is pointed out
If your specific claims are inaccurate, that reflects on your broader point too.
>>
>>697953897
it wasn't an attack on that specific sheet or on the anon who made it(you), it's just that all of these suggestion sheets end up looking all the same with the same genre suggestions

no hate, it just feels like you can't ask/search for hidden/obscure/lesser known games suggestions unless you specifically enjoy those genres

>>697954063
>go through the effort of precisely counting that there are 37 first person shooters in the list
except i didn't count them at all, i just picked a "large" number at random to convey that there are a ton of those
again, don't read literally what is meant to be a rough representation of an abstract concept

What's wrong with BDSM? I mean, the writing's pretty shit, there's some balance quirks and it's not very long, but apart from that, it's alright. Not a masterpiece by any means, but definitely worth $2.

It's all good mate. I think with Walking Sims in particular, it's just that they're pretty easy to make and as such tend to be popular with amateur devs, while still being a pretty niche genre overall. With, say Real-Time Strategy games, Programming Puzzle games or Hack'n'Slashers, there's probably much slimmer pickings in general.

Path of the Midnight Sun. 202 reviews
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1969060/Path_of_the_Midnight_Sun/

This game started as a Fire Emblem Sacred Stones romhack (Fire Emblem Midnight Sun). The guy who was making it decided to turn it into a standalone game and this is the result. The dev is clearly a FE fanboy and the game is filled with FE tropes, like how you can instantly tell which "class" every npc you meet stands for, but it does not play like FE at all. Battles are like Etrian Odyssey (turn based, front and back row, 3 slots each, skills cast from HP or SP) except instead of dungeons you explore top down maps made of connected nodes, each move or battle turn expends "minutes" which are used to alternate player and enemy turns like an SRPG. It's easier to just watch the trailer on the store page. It has the same progression of a classic FE game (no world map, each chapter goes into the next one, one "battle" or map in this case every chapter, non-respawning limited amount of enemies) but it's missing permadeath since there are only 6 fully featured characters (the rest are assists)
Don't expect this game to be hard beyond the early chapters when your party is weak and small, but it has fanservice and romance (no avatar/self-insert, and no eugenics)

There is no such thing as "hidden gems".

66 Reviews, 7 bucks. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1714080/RedTether/

Red Tether is a pretty unique game where you use grappling hooks to destroy enemy ships over 50 waves. The tethers slowly pull anything you shoot with them together, so you pick apart the fleets by pinning chunks of scrap metal, other ships, stray ammunition, etc to the ships while dodging constant gunfire. It starts slow, but by the later waves you have to be absolutely locked in as you are dodging railguns, shooting down fighters and homing torpedoes, making sure not to run into the mines getting teleported in around you, and being mindful of your spacing with PD ships while getting close enough to tether shit then getting out before your shields are down.

The tethering is pretty satisfying as it has some neat interactions like tearing off weapons to leave enemies helpless, using electric chunks to zap anything connected by tethers or EMP weapons, grabbing and pulling health drops and upgrades away from the chaos before they get destroyed, setting up large clusters of enemies with an ammo freighter in the middle to kill them all, and by not tying off the tether you can use it to swing around far faster than you can normally fly. Also has an actually unique fishing minigame.

Super fun little game that got utterly ignored which is a damn shame. I've got nearly 60 hours in it and come back to it regularly.

This reminded me of those old flash game platformers that used to be popuplar, like Crazd. Really cool little adventure game, very soulful and very cheap.

>FPS never needed fucking fast travel
Open world with fast travel is completely fine and it has nothing to do with fromsoftware mechanics or whatever, fast travel is a thing since before the NES era.
Instead of having one base and selecting a level, you have 2 or 3 smaller places to rest in a huge map, it's not something that fucks up the gameplay.
>due to having excellent map design
Stalker 1 had pretty bad backtracking and even then there was the guide npc in vanilla, just to name one FPS game that would benefit from a good fast travel native system.

It's $1.50. Extremely short point and click. It's not going to blow you away but it captures a dark vibe that I wish more games attempted.

I finished it in 1 hour. Nothing amazing, but I played it years ago and I still think about some of the scenes sometimes. Reminds me I need to try some of the other Cloak and Dagger games like Hob's Barrow

Boneraiser Minions is EASILY the peak of the Vampire-Survivors genre. Voids Vigil is the same genre, still in production, and is focused on much more "bite sized" chunks of gameplay (45-60 seconds). I have enjoyed both and, for the price, hard to beat.

Puzzle platformer with an extremely simple moveset (jumping, summoning a block, and pushing blocks) but very clever puzzle design. The puzzles get hard quickly.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2407090/Please_Be_Kind_To_The_Chickens/
A sokoban where you have to herd chickens. Rough presentation but the puzzles are good

https://store.steampowered.com/app/867510/PHOTON_CUBE/
Port of a game that was originally JP only on Vita/Switch. Another sokoban but with a focus on mixing together beams of colored light

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1295320/Can_of_Wormholes/
Technically another sokoban but it's a little more unique than the others, you control a worm and have to fit yourself into specific holes. It's very good at surprising you with new mechanics that you could've done at anytime but probably won't until the game nudges you into it.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2416190/Ichimasan/
Basic 3D adventure game with some stealth elements where you play as a Japanese doll. Pretty simple but I liked it since the feel of it reminded me of Chibi Robo a little

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1053390/Kowloon_HighSchool_Chronicle/
Originally a JP only PS2 game that was ported to PC a few years ago. Dungeon crawler with some school life-sim elements

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1581480/HUMANITY/
Puzzle game that's kind of like Lemmings, you set commands on the ground to direct lines of people to goals.

Legacy is less interesting because the third part has never been translated, while the newer version fully includes it directly in english. Wait for a full version sale unless you can read moonrunes, the astral world dungeon is bigger than the rest of the game combined in scale and mechanics.

>>

>>697985523
Keplerth, a top-down terraria-like, but it's somewhat of a stretch. There is a number of looted gear, a some of which is even BiS, but most of the gear you'll be wearing will be crafted. There is an upgrade system where you can essentially upgrade even a copper sword into endgame stats (although for armor you'll be crafting new sets regardless), and the game has a pretty robust build system, but currently exploration is a bit lacking. It's just a tad bit on the expensive side and it's by no means a hidden gem, but this is the best I can offer to you with loot and upgrades right now. Let me know if you like the rec.
>>
>>697985904
Not a hidden gem but Momodora games ?
>>
>>697984553
Let's see... You control a modular drone made out of a chassis, a turret, and weapons mounted on hardpoints and have to fight enemy drones which you can loot for parts. The environments are destructible voxel-ly caves, so you can dig trenches and punch through walls with miniguns. Projectiles are simulated, not abstracted through dice rolls.

The difficulty is brutal since you're thrown in the deep end with no tutorial, and you're outnumbered and outgunned (the enemies play by the same rules as you, and they are many), so you have to rely on the enemies being dumb and outsmart them through clever use of cover and positioning. If you stay for too long in the same level a very dangerous Hunter Killer drone spawns and starts chasing you.

And lastly, the industrial soundtrack is pretty sick.

So what's the deal with this? Something smells fishy. Hero Test was released October 22nd and costs 11 bucks. Life Devotee was released November 24th and is free to play. Vonimir is soon to be released and I don't see anything about what the price will be.

That's three games with extremely similar assets and gameplay within a span of what I assume will end up being 3-4 months. One of them is free to play. The way they're titled makes it seem like this is part of a trilogy yet they're going with rapid standalone releases instead of DLC. I have no idea what to make of this.

This game has such a weird structure. The beginning is Japanese as fuck and nearly filtered me but once you get into the actual dungeon part of the game it's completely different. Then when you think you've beaten the game you actually haven't and there's still way more. It's like it starts with a tutorial for a completely different game but then you get into the real game but psych that was actually the tutorial for the real game. It certainly is an experience.

Alisa

a little janky and frustrating don't sleep on melee weapons, but also incredibly faithful to the period it references
my favourite games released in the last 10 years or so

if you like old resident evil and alice in wonderland don't sleep on it
Crow Country is arguably the better game, but that one despite being great was relatively forgettable while this one lingered with me. SOULful if you will.
Also has coom and halloween outfits.

Survival horror FPS made in gzdoom with tons of furry gore, melancholic lunatic atmosphere, and many actually different endings.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1943240/Dismantled_Directors_Cut/

Brutal horror metroidvania with a lot of inspiration from Bloodborne and Metroid.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/556710/Marrow/

Pretty straightforward Taiwanese platformer game that starts from being humorous meme experience and eventually evolving to epic and touching story. The main characters are really adorable, and the plot keeps on delivering to the very end.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/799640/Dungeon_Munchies/

Mix Madness Combat + SCP + liminal spaces + Hitman, and you will get Worlds. The game is totally unpredictable and keeps on surprising at every corner.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/304850/Worlds/

Short apocalyptic nakige-VN with touches of SCP inspiration here and there. The sequel is free and even longer (about 10 hrs).
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1463450/Fallstreak_Requiem_for_my_Homeland/

Moody apocalyptic survival platformer with barebones gameplay, but engaging plot and setting inspired by oldschool sci-fi.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/435530/The_Final_Station/

Surreal cyberpunk dystopia tourist simulator made by a schizo Korean female developer. Absolutely janky, absolutely buggy, absolutely kino.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1224600/G_String/

One of the few squad-based RTS with actual friendly fire.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/254820/Ground_Control_Anthology/

Bleak RPGMaker horror-RPG in vein of Seraphic Blue and Dhux's Scar, has a somewhat unusual battle system.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1878350/Prayer_of_the_Faithless/

Snowy Japanese limbo simulator, only buy it if you are really into that kind of thing (aka endless search for items while listening to atmospheric music)

crazy how many schizo walking sims and rpgmaker slop are unironically being posted here as "hidden gems"
>>
>>697997835
Are we talking strictly equipment, or just anything? As far as ONLY hidden games go, and if you're okay with non-gear, the deckbuilder I recommended earlier, The Dark Horde, has a mechanic where winning a run with a deck upgrades one of its cards, and the card's unit also gets a new sprite as a result.
Non-hidden gem games that do this kind of thing:
>Dome Keeper
Your keeper's appearance doesn't change, but your dome weapon does change in appearance as it receives upgrades.
>Spiral Knights
Dead multiplayer game milked with lootboxes and with no content, but the upgrade system is the core part of the game and all the gear evolves visually. Worth even at least just experiencing it for a bit.
>Starbound
A very small selection of low tier weapons can be upgraded to endgame tier weapons with a change in model. Game kinda sucks thoughever.

not a zoomer and i hate soulslop because its braindead. all intricacies of game design in combat can be extremely simplified by "hit dodge button when in danger" instead of thinking about spacing or managing movement. exploration is even worse, rewarding the player with heaps and heaps of useless shit. furthermore, parsing through difficulty is hard because its too easy to brick your save by overleveling, even when you intentionally waste your souls and do not farm. it is unclear the challenge level you're supposed to face -- is this mini boss meant to be asymmetrical to the difficulty of the level you're in as a tension point? or is the mini boss the next step up the ladder?

retards love soulslop because they do not need to think at all about combat or builds, they also feel accomplished because they overlevel -- the 'easy' difficulty worms its way in just by playing for the average player without them knowing, leaving non retards that want a reasonable difficulty curve constantly doubting themselves if they should even level or not.

>nyooooo you can't just say generic nintendo adult NES inspired nostalgia pandering trend chasing shovelware titles are bad!!!!
>deckbuilding is KINO
>lazy 8bit style graphics are KINO
>metroidvania is the ONLY genre that needs to exist
>i love roguelite mechanics used in place of anything meaningful
>i can't let go of the NES and SNES!!!!!!!!!!!!
get some taste retards. there are lots of "hidden gems" that are worth playing but most of what is posted in this current thread is dogshit.
there was a time once that F&H used to be considered a ``hidden gem''. it certainly was before youtubers and ecelebs jumped all over it.
hell, even FNAF was a little known title that was only popular on /v/ once upon a time. now it's a zillion dollar franchise.
8bit indie pixel metroidvania deckbuilder roguelike sloppa #9001 though? nah.

Look into Moon. It’s one of the best games that I have ever played.

Metal Unit

>>697999113
unironically same. wish the dev wasn't a tranny and would release it sooner instead of wanting to avoid the christmas sale period
>>
>>697998453
looks cool, is the combat real time as well or turnbased?

>>
>>698000083
>there are lots of "hidden gems" that are worth playing
And yet you can't name any except for the ones that, by your own admission, no longer count.
Why are you even here?
>>

Real time, the combat is pretty simple

good morning saar
>>
>>698000390
there are a few posted in this thread. it's not my fault that most of the garbage being linked is unironic shovelware

>remadry is blocked in my country for some reason
That's weird, theres nothing even remotely sexual in it.
It's an autobattle Wizardry-esque crawler and all the voices are done by the aquestalk yukkuri synthesizer.

It's not my fault that you're afraid to name a
single "hidden gem" that you like.

The second to last boss I wasn't a big fan of. I thought it was unique but the hitboxes on it felt very off.
I think the only big bug I remember now was the garden boss, something happened and she basically went hyper aggressive and mowed me down

Of course he won't name one. That would make him vulnerable to critique. Standard troll tactic, tale old as time, never say anything committal.

You fucking mongoloid, we are the only one that take daily showers and have a bidet

the reason is the devs are lazy fucks that can't fill out the steam form to get an age rating

Looks promising, can you upload it somewhere, I've checked the usual place but to no avail.

Yeah can we get a part 2 thread?

Because its ruined the action game genre. Also fatigue.

It's a game with 26 reviews, lad, nobody's gonna bother with seeding it. My laptop is fucked up and can't even run a browser without hard-freezing, so I'm of no help either.
