After a hundred or so head bashing races I've gotten first place with every character and A- rank in this god forsaken ranking system. Here's what I took away from it. >Power overall seems to be the best because of the boost stat across the board, handling in second because their stats can bring out the best in some machines>good CharacterMachine syngery goes typically PowerBoost/Handling, SpeedAccel/Boost, AccelBoost/Handling, HandlingBoost>Best gadgets are typically quick recover, counter drift + at least one charge, air trick speed (usually paired with ring trick up) >Collision and Spin are pretty gimmicky and a gamble on being actually useful enough to win a race >Gadgets that increase certain item rates typically seem to suck. Attack up usually gives you the gloves which aren't useful in last place, defense items are a gamble since they're so short, speed items usually give wisp which are nowhere near enough a significant speed increase to justify using the gadget >No distinct best character but generally those in the power category But even with as much nuance as the game can give you, don't let anyone tell you that you can win on just skill. This game is aggressive as fuck lol you always win by luck, don't ever get it twisted. It can be frustrating because I think this might be the closest attempt to making a "competitively viable" kart racer, even with items. If they tuned some of the attack items back and revamped the defense and speed items it might be an actual Mario Kart killer, contender at the very least. The game is promising, but it's definitely toxic lol

Notice how it's always about softening sharp turns into a round, smooth motion. Cars aren't like FPS characters in video games that can turn on a time, so you can't just hug the inside of a track and call it a day. Generally, the rounder a line is the better it is. And no, they're not actually straight lines lol. They're more like... racing rings, that push the track closer to a smooth circle. Lines in Crash Team Racing were really bizarre since you had to take into account boost pads, air tricking at an angle to move forward, risk boosts and so on. It's a bit more intuitive in this game.

Nintendo isn't known to be quick with post launch patches unless people are having fun, so it makes a lot of sense to just keep it simple to reduce the likelihood of people from finding the inevitable broken combination of modifiers. Of course still didn't work out great even with just the character and kart stat combos.

This game downplays a lot of the things I dislike about Mario Kart, but its core driving feels worse, so the highs and lows feel less extreme.

I think Mother's Canyon or Doctor's Mine would be my picks. I got used to the steering sensitivity at 5, but I did eventually turn it to 10 and it felt a lot looser and more comfortable

I can easily afford it and can even get it for $60, but Sega does sales often and I am paranoid the game will die like Team Sonic Racing did. That and getting burned by MKW made me a bit...less willing to pick it up at launch. It really should have been a $50 game.
