Why did the dev just didn't set the entire game in ygoslav conflict. Why do this "everything is the same except subtle name changes."
>>
Loving the game so far, it's open world survival horror with buttload of investigations and secrets. I set enemy damage to 200% but combat is a side activity, the strength of the game is its atmoshpere conveyed by the environment and dialogue. Some of the stuff you learn is very brutal, it's a proper war-torn country. No minimap or quest compass.

If you want my thoughts, Ill copy paste what I concluded based on reviews earlier today (technically yesterday). Still not quite sure what to think about the game, but these reviews focusing on certain things other reviewers didnt whether they were negative or positive, makes me think it valid:

>I was really passionately making threads for the game even before it released, hoping and coping that it would be the savior from modern AAA "action adventure" game design that priveleges combat over adventure. But read these posts of mine:
>>719564148
>As well as a different review that echoes similar criticism:
>>719569348 (this one isnt my own post)

>And it seems unfortunately the primary "complex" puzzles are relagated strictly to side content, and even then the level design isnt really complex enough beyond the dungeons, for navigation to really be engaging. I might still buy the game one day, but. I just dont know what to believe about the game at this point. I'm not as enthused as before.

Everything in greentext is from a past thread.

I'm curious for somebody to do a proper big video that actually gets into the specifics of the puzzles.

Because if they can all be reduced to "find a code based on the enviroment", or "bring an item from 5 hours ago to somewhere 30 miles away (hyperbolizing)" then I dont know that thats enough...or even really good "puzzle design". I feel like it either has to be more creative, or the level design has to carry hard, like in Resident Evil.
>>
>>719613624
I could not find my way to the objective of buying it
I will not stop making fun of these retards for thinking that somehow them disabling objective markers would make sales for their procedural generated "quests" as an incredible selling point
>>
Is this open world slop? I was checking some streams and people keep running for minutes through some big swamp areas with nothing happening.

Not in the slightest. Most soulslikes have some sort of quest log, even if it doesn't exactly tell you what to do. Fromsoft are the only ones who consistently don't bother with that and they're still prone to keeping you on rails towards pivotal objectives outside of say, Elden Ring.

>Visually, Hell is Us is nothing short of stunning. Art Director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête's background on Deus Ex shines through in every carefully crafted environment. The war-torn landscapes of Hadea blend WWI-inspired trenches with supernatural horror elements, creating a palette that's both historically grounded and otherworldly.

The creature designs are particularly noteworthy. The Hollow Walkers are genuinely unsettling beings that feel like they've crawled out of a nightmare. This, alongside the lighting and atmosphere work together to create a consistently oppressive mood that never feels forced or overwhelming.

The audio design creates an immersive soundscape that perfectly complements the visual storytelling. Elias Toufexis, known for playing Adam Jensen in the Deus Ex series, voices Remi perfectly. Environmental audio plays a crucial role in navigation and exploration. Since there are no traditional waypoints, you'll find yourself actually following audio cues to discover hidden areas.

i'll pretend it's deus ex human revolution 2.

Played for about 3 hours thus far, the game is INSANELY atmospheric and the theme it decided to work with (quasi-Yugoslav war) is very refreshing. The combat system is meh, although i like drone abilities designed for crowd control and ki pulse alone makes it better than the vast majority of western soulslikes.

I guess it's technically out for those who paid for the deluxe edition. Everyone else is waiting for September 4th or as everyone else is calling Silksong Day. Funny that it's already close to beating Lost Soul Aside's peak of 3k by just people who paid for the deluxe edition.
>>
>>719620701
No, there are tons of characters, you learn the gist of the conflict immediately. There's a mystery but i don't feel like they removed chunks of story to give it gravitas.
>>719620658
Respawn checkpoints and stamina-based melee combat mostly, but honestly it doesn't feel all that much like souls games thanks to the drone abilities and ki pulsing.
>>
>>719616606
And apathy is death- and apathy certainly is the prevailing mood around HiU. Tough luck, chum.
>>
What i like about the combat thus far is that crowd control is a legitimate part of the combat system. Solo enemy is not dangerous, but groups and groups with the umbilical cord thingy can be brutal, that's why your first ability allows you to disable a single enemy for nearly a minute, and the second allows you to charge through half the combat arena. Didn't unlock the weapon runes yet, but it sounds like all of them are designed to give you more crowd control tools.

the demo was fine but I felt like the art style insisted upon itself and the game won't actually have much substance. I didn't really resonate with it.
I was considering supporting it just because it's a tragedy what happened to Eidos, but this game doing well won't bring back Deus Ex, so why bother.
I don't like 3rd-person action games enough to get every random one that comes out, even if some of the guys who worked on it made other shit I love.

actually pretty interesting so far, there is some surreal/alien type of stuff going on and you explore, and the combat/drone stuff seems good, it's like control + dark souls in a sense?

more interesting than most generic soulslikes though. also I NEVER ASKED FOR THIS is the mc.

This is an excellent idea. A ton of souls "pros" complained about it to no end because dodging in souls games is tied to button release and not button press which makes them less responsive than they can be. This is one of the reasons quickstep and bloodhound step is so broken in ER.

Early Feedback

Exploration and World Design
>Reached the swamp and deliberately avoided the main town (where quests and NPCs presumably start) to test non-linearity.
>The area does open up with multiple paths or dead-ends. No map is fine for me, but the lack of distinct landmarks makes navigation harder. I'll probably start drawing my own maps.
>The swamp feels dull and visually samey, with enemies everywhere, which pushes the experience more toward combat than adventure. Could be better balanced.
>Found key items and puzzles/locked objects that clearly require backtracking later. The game feels dense with "come back later" elements. While it starts simple, keeping track of everything might become tricky.
>I already feel a bit lost and overwhelmed, wanna keep exploring, I love that sense of discovery and mystery.
>Disappointly, no classic Souls shortcuts. Found a spot that could have used one but it's one-way path and if you wanna go back, have to re-do full detour.

Combat/Difficulty
>Bumped difficulty sliders to max. So far, it feels harder than Wuchang, mostly because it’s unfamiliar.
>Feels quite different from Souls games, enough to throw off my habits.
>Basic white walker enemies are simple, but in groups they emphasize crowd control.
Cord-linked enemies are harder to read than typical Souls enemies, partly due to odd shapes and >movement patterns, and the camera struggles with them since they zap around.
>Run and dodge being separate buttons takes adjustment.
>Healing system feels generous and well-designed: you regain health through combos (risk/reward), but you can also play safe and refill.
>Also feels way more mashy (but I also bumped enemy hp, which makes them spongey but not more interesting)
>No enemy respawn (unless enabled) and no estus flask change usual pacing and resource balance (medkits seem rare).

Performance
>Performance fine, some pop-in (medium)
>Buggy AI! I think it's still in a rough state sadly. If you can, wait for more patches

Dodging is unnecessary most of the time, guard and deflect are strong and you have other defensive abilities from the drone like a distraction
>>
>>719628747
I'll explain what's going on here because it's not clear if you don't know the game

>>719626230
>>719624181

These enemies are bugged. They're supposed to summon an entity linked to them via umbilical cord. And they remain invulnerable until you defeat the entity. But it looks like, if you hit/stun them right as they're triggering the summon, it doesn't spawn. But the summoners just remain invincible and passive and you can't do anything.

Anyone else ran into this bug?
>>
Finished first level but it looks so dull. Just dark ue5 forests and swamps.
>>
>distraction cooldown is based on the amount of time the drone was out
>which means you can stun enemy to pull a charged attack for a quick drone recovery
Neato
Although single enemies are not the problem, swarms are
>>
>>719629194
what the fuck did you expect, rainbow unicorn land? as far as I can tell the game is about horrors of war
>>
Honestly, this game is boring as fuck and I'm not sure if I'll insist on playing it
>>
>>719621149
The suffering must continue, anon.
>>
Just pirated it, omw if shills are right this time
>>
>>719629345
I expected shit and that's what I got.
>>
>Do everything the opposite of how Ubisoft does things: The game
pretty fucking neato
>>
>>719629457
This. The combat is fucking atrocious and just shouldn't even exist at all. They should have avoided the souls meme and made it a scarce resource 3ps. The story also seems unengaging and the milquetoast mc is the main issue here. Supremely boring and uninteresting game with terrible design decisions and bugged to shit to boot.
>>
>>719624459
These actual gibbering morons are what make up 99% of /v/ nowadays and it fucking floors me how retarded people have gotten in less than a generation or two.
>>
>>719629802
>They should have avoided the souls meme and made it a scarce resource 3ps.
Congratulations, you have described a game far worse than anything you are complaining about.

Don't tell me you faggots actually bought this game when it's not even out and full of bugs
>>
>>719624181
I also hate how they made the areas have details but you cant look around while running, it just snaps the camera right back behind you and will always tug the camera there as long as you move

>Be called hell is us
>Delve into the horrors and atrocities of war from a human perspective
>Add these shitters in
This is made for zoomers, isn't it? A human interest story about war wasn't enough to keep modern zoomers' attention so they had to add monsters to keep it interesting. You didn't see that shit in games like this war of mine or honest hearts. We are definitely becoming dumber as a people.

I am liking it so far. It definitely isn't anything like a Souls like since no foe I have fought has really been hard and the focus is much more on trying to connect pieces you find around the world. I also do like how they justify the protagonist having no real reaction to the fucked up shit that is going on around him because early on he is stated to be a high functioning psychopath.
>>
>>719630270
they should've minimized one or the other. trying to focus on both just feels really weird.

modernish realistic setting with monsters is fun but not when youre trying to have a serious message about ethnic cleansing
>>
>>719630412
With a title like hell is us, they should've went the other way with it. Humans can be just as scary as monsters in their own way. Also, games about killing monsters are a dime a dozen.

Are you new here? Fine let me explain.
Here's how /v/ works

>game is bad on release
10.000 threads

>game is meh on release
1.000 threads saying it's worst than it really is

>game is good on release
3 threads or even none

>game is from a autistic fan franchise
>>daily threads saying it's best than it really is, even if the game is objectively bad

>game is good, but is already 5-10 years old
>daily threads saying it's best than it really is
>>
>>719630556
I mean I think humans created the monsters or something right?
>>
>>719630742
>game is absolute dogshit
daily generals for 20 years about this hidden "gem"
>>
>>719631002
Never happened unless you're talking about "autistic fan franchise" which he already mentioned, and in that case game quality means nothing.
>>
>>719619523
you dead anon? Answer me, what are "soulslikes" since you´re throwing it around aswell but got no counter point.
>>
>>719630561
lol anon, thanks for exposing shitters filitered by the hidden options menu.
>>
>>719630980
Who knows/cares? The fact they needed monsters to tell a human story says they have no faith in their storytelling ability.
>>
>>719619523
This is something that pretends to be a soulslike. You run in 3rd person and smack enemies with your sword, but there is no difficulty (at least on balanced mode). in 3h of gameplay there was no boss and only 3 kinds of enemies that may as well be one type. You pick shiny useless loot balls too and got something akin to bonfires. I don't think you lose anything on death.

Game runs extremely smooth for a UE5 game. Devs really put in the work.

uhm, ms storywriter, humans only are boring as fuck and inventing interesting monsters is better than try your hardest to appease to realityfaggots.
>>
It's really good bros. Will filter adhd&iqlets though.
>>
I got to this first town with all those "war crimes" but couldn't really care about anything.
>>
what's the secret code from deluxe?
>>
So what's your favourite weapon type thus far?
The polearm is fast as fuck for the damage it does. Good crowd control with charged attack too.
>>
>>719631869
congratulations on getting blackpilled by hd war drone footage, you are ready to be put into trenches and commit those war crimes yourself

No, I am a soulsfag and nothing is worse than mediocre souls combat. This isn't even mediocre, this is shit tier souls. Like this isn't Thymesia levels of combat, it isn't even bottom of the barrel code vein combat, it's a whole new low the likes of which you really only see out of student project tier shovelware.

You're also missing the entire point where resource scarcity naturally diminishes the focus on combat in a game that really should have minimal to none combat. It's the synergistic gameplay/narrative format for the experience the game is trying to deliver. The fact they couldn't even identify and commit to a complimentary gameplay loop alongside their exploration and environmental storytelling design and instead made this soulslop is damning. These are not artists, or what artists are involved have been hamstrung by trend chasing faggots.

So 99% of /v/?

99,9% more likely

After (re)playing MGS3 Delta I’ve realized style and athmosphere can only get you so and so far WITHOUT ACTUAL GOOD GAMEPLAY

So yeah, nah, fuck this

The game doesn't sell its atrocities to you. It just talks at you and then shows you pictures like a geriatric WW2 vet. You have to "be there" to care. You have to really experience these events to understand.

Fromsoft environmental storytelling "works" (and I use this loosely, because it is not very engaging to me) because the world is visually interesting. It also infamously has zero compelling characters. Just a bunch of schizos and not even entertaining schizos just mumbling schizos. Especially the DeS-DS2 era where they ended every interaction with a limp dicked giggle.

This game is leaning much harder on npcs for characterization, but all they do is just trauma dump their local misery porn sightseeing tour waypoints on you. Where is my motivation to care about these miserable, dirty, grey and tired souls? What is my connection to their suffering?

It's a ponderously Euro fart sniffing game with an entitlement complex. The subject matter is "serious" therefore it IS important by default and you MUST care about it. But no, we are just going to drop the ball entirely on the execution of delivering an engaging experience. It should be engaging by virtue alone that we are talking about "serious" things.
