Shards make no sense. They should remove them and put less charges for tools if they don't want people spamming them. Rosaries are too few. It would all be fixed if room gauntlets left you beads but they give you nothing< which leads me to:

There is nothing to get. You kill a boss you get nothing. You kill a room, you get nothing. You get to a secret room you get 20 shitty beads.
One of the biggest rewards is a silk heart which gives you... 1 silk bar at a bench lmao.

I'm fine with strong attacks getting double damage, I'm not fine with shitty attacks and non big enemies dealing 2 damage even on contact damage. Its retarded and it's artificial difficulty. Its like playing original hollow knight with the god master impediments.

Tools are cool I guess but resource management is retarded, they cost too much shards and you can use them too many times so they can be abused.
There is no reason to not use the dices or the poisson, too many garbage charms

Cool bosses: Karmelita (number 1), cogwork dancers, silkmother (too easy), lace, widow, first sinner, 4 chorus (easy but good as an introductory boss), last judge (obviously), phantom
Bosses that suck: the fly, Groal, basically everything that uses cheap double damage for everything as an excuse for a challenge.

Overview: hollow knight was better, this game suffers from many dark souls II/Elden ring cheap tricks bullshit, if you remove that it's almost a perfect game.

I have only ever run out of shards when I was spamming to empty over and over again to trivialize new enemies that spooked me. I learned my lesson and adapted to the game instead of bitching.

I am that anon and I beat Phantom second try, after a long first battle. Last Judge killed me in about five seconds both tries, but that was because the shotput into a jump that I had no foreknowledge to expect killed me the first time and then I thought the whirlybird was the shotput my second try. I haven't done a third attempt yet. I think part of the reason I found Phantom relatively easy is because it felt like a Hollow Knight boss. A lot of things in Silksong seem balanced around Hunter Crest and Hornet's abilities in general. I did all bosses Radiant in HK and I've been struggling with Silksong because I have fairly ingrained HK muscle memory from grinding out the HoG. I am still constantly finding myself trying to do things which would work in HK but don't work here and I haven't adapted yet. Phantom (and Lace) feeling like a boss from HK made them easy for me despite struggling with a lot of other encounters.

There are many things in the game I feel team cherry designed with speedruners in mind first and the rest of the players second. Its small things, like a small dent in the ground in some maps, spikes and enemy placement, even some charms.

Maybe having 1 shitty silk bar is good for speed trannies but it doesn't really make a difference for the rest of players.

This is the one thing that I noticed the most playing and going through HK again.
HK teases you with the obvious metroidvania obstacles that hint at "Come back here after you get X power up", and while Silksong does the same, going back through the map often leads to getting shards or some measly beads. In HK, these led to grubs, charms, stuff for the collector, bosses, etc.

Agreed. It feels cheap. For almost 30 hours I had 6 masks at most, and way too many enemies deal double damage. You get used to it pretty quickly, but it still feels cheap when almost everything has a combo attack or just outrigh kills you.

Doesn't feel that bad in my eyes. Then again, I'm just collecting the songs, just beat High Halls, and now I'm exhausting the map before continuing.

Eh, don't know how to feel about her. She's barely showed up and I'm not a lore guy, so I haven't stopped to read and analyze every bit of text the game throws. Sherma was done beautifully instead , because you see him everywhere and always makes you smile. As of now, I've seen Lace twice, and if the game suddenly tries to get me to care, I'll just shrug.

I killed the only jailer fly I saw before opening the slab from the citadel and no longer being able to get abducted. That path also takes you straight to Mt. Fay. It's actually pretty good odds that if you see it before clawline, you're not getting jailed.

Hook spamming the enemies isn't even really that big a thing because they can still hit you on approach and knock you out of it, if you try spamming the hook carelessly in places like coral tower you will be raped. Sure but when there's an entire zone of that most players decide to go back and see if there's an anti-frost item, and then go back to Mt. Fey when it's the only thing left. At the very least you need to get the clawline, which most people won't get until mid to late act 2, and get jailed in act 1.

To add to this, a time I really noticed how oppressive the Hook Costs Silk mechanic is was First Sinner. I spent a few attempts using the hook to chase after her teleports. It was really fun. But it was raping my ability to heal from the constant silk drain and I think it made the fight harder than just dashing when possible and letting her win when it's not. I left that fight feeling like that tactic was being unfairly punished for how much fun it was to pull off and how complete it made the mirror match between you and her feel.

I agree on virtually every Castlevania soundtrack being better, but that's not entirely fair because Castlevania has arguably the best music of any series. Only Megaman compares, and I think Megaman slightly loses.

That said, the stupid fucking bug noises are top tier and I think the combination of the bug noises and the soundtrack work together to make for amazing sound design in both HK and SS. It probably wasn't even intentional. I doubt they planned for the voices to work so well with the background music but it does and I can't explain why. It's just fucking grunts and shouts but it fits.

Silksong has more areas than Hollow Knight but they're relatively smaller so you end up spending less time in each of them. Also some areas like the Marrow and Deep Docks only have their big melodies in certain areas so you end up hearing the music even less. The first time I got to mount fay was when I got kidnapped into the slab in act 1, so I had nothing to advance mount fay with and I saw but didn't really process the floating rings, so my first assumption was that I needed something to withstand the cold. As a gamedev lurker, they could have been using some sort of data storage/prefab for the base spike hurtboxes, and accidentally set that to 2 dmg instead of just setting the circular saw hurtboxes(which inherit code/data from the base hurtbox), for example.
Would be honestly fairly easy to miss if it happened near release, given the dev team was likely good enough at the game to not fall in spikes often.

The weakness of micro sized teams like Team Cherry is that it's really easy to get wrapped up in your own autism and lose sight of something the public you're trying to sell the game to just flat out won't tolerate. I'd be willing to bet that Team Cherry's had the same crew of playtesters since Hollow Knight was a kickstarter project, who are basically all indoctrinated cultists with 30,000 hours of playtime in the dev build at this point, and they forgot that this no longer is a good metric for what their customer base thinks is fun. When they were making Hollow Knight they periodically sent tests to the whale backers, who apparently begged them at several points to tone down the autism. Those people were absent for Silksong's development and it shows.

Hollow Knight had Lost Kin (dream nail version), Soul Tyrant, Grimm, Pure Vessel and arguably the Sisters of Battle. Good looking bosses who also pose a decent challenge. All the stylish encounters in silksong were forgettable wet farts in comparison. I can't fathom anyone getting stuck on karmelita or needing several attempts to defeat first sinner. Even last judge who is literally supposed to be a gatekeeper wasn't up to the challenge

Opposite on the pogo. Diagonal pogo is a hindrance not a help in most uses. Like, it is literally 100x easier to pogo Lost Lace's dash with Wanderer than with Hunter because Wanderer's pogo comes out in a nice honest 180 degree arc. Most bosses in the game have practically no answer to you being directly on top of them slapping their forehead because they assume your aerial attacks are coming in from 45 degrees away.

You don't need to do every wish but you need to do a certain number of them. It'll trigger the songclave guy to tell you how nice you're being to everyone. You probably need to do enough Bellhart quests to get your bellhome. Explore the ducts until you find the lake and interact with it to make Hornet go "the fleas should move here" and then tell the fleas to move there. You should already have double jump but in case you don't get it. That should unlock the quest itself.
