We are going to need more people mixing songs so we can work through all the submitted vocals in time for the deadline, so I've prepared a resource of torrents for plugins you can use to help you get started with mixing your vocals and stuff later on, I pulled all of them from RuTracker: https://files.catbox.moe/ev15il.zip
Use Qbittorrent to get the torrents to download. Torrents are basically download links, so just having the "torrent file" won't give you the plugins.

For audio software, I recommend REAPER. It's not as easy as Audacity, but once you learn it you'll be able to do whatever you need: https://www.reaper.fm/download.php
Recommend looking up some guides for getting started with mixing, but worst case you can ask in the thread.
We have a mixing template for it, included in the torrent ZIP.

I wouldn't call anything specific my magnum opus this year, in general my standards are high for myself though. I'm the sort of autist that will spend half an hour staring at a single line if I'm not feeling good about it, and I'm not afraid to just drop a song if I am not happy with it. I always get a couple memey songs (cough, chicken jockey one) in there but other than that they all get focused on until I stop seeing spots I don't like. Doesn't mean the singers or other anons don't sometimes improve them, but I feel really proud about any non-shitpost tracks I post.

Usually I wouldn't say anything gets overlooked.
Some don't get done because they're just too hard to sing, but I'm blessed this year in that the track I most assumed would never get sung for this reason had someone say they put it on their list.
Past that, "overlooked" usually means it's either incomprehensible or genius depending on if you "get" it. I have a few of those this year as well. Never mad if they don't get sung because I wrote them knowing I might be the only one that gets them.

It's gonna be worth it if you wanna learn how to sing either to make money out of it (either singing live, or making YouTube videos) I mean quite literally cause you'd be making the money back, or if you just wanna learn because its something you're passionate about, that's also valid.
But if you only wanna learn because /v/TM, then I'd say it's not worth it, you can learn basic stuff and get away with average singing with editing here. And if you're not passionate about it, it's gonna be even harder to learn.

It obviously also depends on the teacher but 95% of the time, it's gonna be a good one and it will be worth it. You're gonna learn so much more stuff than what a YouTube video can teach you. And it's just like working out, if you do an exercise wrong, you're not gonna get any actual gains, and that's why you need a trainer to help you irl, who can check and make sure you're doing an exercise correctly. Same logic applies to singing and vocal coaches, they can see/hear what mistakes you are making specifically and help you train your voice in a much more specific way cathered to your needs.

for the record, the singer line is on the unfinished sheet so we can copy it to the editing/finished sheet easily without needing to check with the thread and figure out who to give credit to after the fact. the singer line gets used this way a lot, but it's not there as a way to say "maybe I'll consider this later", it's there to denote that the song has a singer and give credit to that person on the final music file.

I record on a laptop mic. People can tell the audio isn't great but the important thing is to have fun and to do what you actually can. For me it helps a lot to put a blanket over myself and the laptop when recording to stop the echos.

Probably. For every anon posting "dang someone claimed this so I won't sing it" there's 10 that won't mention it but will change what they work on based on what is claimed. That's exactly what the problem is. At least for solo songs, the singer line isn't for marking interest, it's for marking that you're the singer. Just copy the rentry link of the songs you're interested in so you can check them out later, good writefags always include the links to the original and instrumentals within the rentry specifically for you. Then mark them when you're actually sure you're going to give a take.

If you're using the sheet wrong, yeah it makes sense. If you just didn't mark it you wouldn't need to be asking this, you would just drop the song silently from your internal list and not have to think about if it's a betrayal to go back on your claim.

Consider this: the only singfag still around from year 1 doesn't mark songs on the sheet. There can be more than 1 valid way to do something but if the way you're doing it leads to situations like this, you did it wrong.

In the end you obviously already made a mistake, but at this point you might as well cut the losses on it and not waste your own time. Drop the ones someone else sang better if you want. Then unmark every song you marked that you're not actually 100% sure you're going to give a take for, and remark them once you become sure.

nta but in my experience there's 2 big limiting factors:
1. you actually need everything to line up. if other people are in the house you might not be able to scream nigger into the mic. if you have neighbors and thin apartment walls you might need to wait until they're at work but you are not. sometimes the actual time where it's possible to record is under an hour per day.

I don't know a lot about music, generally, so the best advice I can give is just to try and follow the Corsairs. For example, the second part of each verse is a high part. "After I snuck around my green butt it did pound" is "An elegant craft she was rigged fore and aft." And frankly I think singing that part triumphantly is just kind of FUNNY.

The easier ones can be knocked out on weekday nights but I devote Saturday afternoons to the hard ones. yeah memes aside, if you're a singer do try to get some stuff done in this early part of the month instead of procrastinating. it is inevitable we have too many procrastinators and inevitable that all of the songs not edited yet suffer because they will need to be given rushed edits as fast as we can churn them out. if you're saying "meh I have weeks I'll just do some later" today and then submit 5 things in the last 3 days, that's 5 things that are not only going to get sloppy edits but worsen the edits of dozens of other songs as well.

this week I have time to do some fun editing stuff like add fun sfx in downtime on songs so they shine, and a track can get a good amount of polish if I think it's worth it. anything submitted past 2 weeks from now isn't gonna be able to get any of that.

yeah, it's very acceptable at this point in the musical. some pro tips (not rules):
1. most successful shilling will be in dead hours, when the bumps are far apart, so your post is gonna be seen by more people and they might be sitting there 10+ minutes with your post being one of the newest ones instead of it being off the screen in 2 minutes.
2. make sure you're checking the sheet immediately before and shilling things that actually need to be shilled, aka not stuff with a singer already on the sheet
3. you gotta balance getting noticed vs being annoying. if you spam the shit out of a song it can swing someone from wanting to sing it to just wanting to not hear about the song again.
4. if you're gonna put effort into shilling, put effort into making sure it's worth singing. Turn on the original song and sing along with your lyrics from start to finish to make sure it flows right, has rhymes/syllables right, and even if it was already perfect you can still find spots where suddenly you go "oh I can improve this line!". Not only is this good at making the song better, but if your shill post can say "I improved this song since last time you saw it, take a look" it feels less like a filler post and also might get someone to want to put in effort to match your continuous efforts.
5. consider if it's actually gonna be helped by shilling. if you got a song that needs 10 roles and 0 are filled, shilling it a 5th time is unlikely to help. if your song needs a specific type of anon, like maybe you really want your rap song to get a deep bass voice, are there even anons here that could sing it? we're short on shrill mini femanons as well sadly.

yeah the editors know what they're doing with that, if it avoids peaking you made the right call. personally I post demos a little louder but ngl I'm not as skilled as you so I need the feedback from randos before it gets to the editor, and being loud enough for people just listening through kraken's page helped me get more feedback.
