Another Glorious Day of Demos. New ones continue to be released, while there are countless ones already available to try.

https://store.steampowered.com/sale/nextfest_oct25_press/

And I'd like to extend a special thanks to ADGD, without whom, Next Fest would not even be possible.

Joker's Game was really fun. The fact that you start the game waking up in bed next to your super hot girlfriend helps. But it would have been good even if your girlfriend was ugly! I mean, you know what you mean.

So, the Deer Creek demo is out, I've been anticipating this one for a while. To be honest, I barely played it. I turned it on for a cursory check, to make sure it could actually run but I turned it off very quickly. The atmosphere was excellent, everything worked properly, and I didn't want to spoil the mystery at all. There's no point playing a demo for a game when I am already assured of it's quality.

My game rating system is just me stating how much I would be willing to pay for a video game, which I consider a superior method than arbitrary 5 or ten point scales. This one is pretty high up there, I think it's worth $30. Though I wouldn't recommend a developer set that price point no one will fucking pay that. Bye Sweet Carole has amazing animation that was obviously expensive and they only charged $26.

I felt obligated to try for some reason. The woolies are back. The opening cutscene took forever. The platforming mechanics seemed solid. Bubsy is a single father with little twerps running around his house. Was Bubsy a dude? Probably.

I'm not a big platformer fan overall. But if I did bother to get one, I suppose Bubsy would be the best choice.

This one still hangs around. I think it would take too long to get a feel for the game by playing the demo because it's obviously a slow burn. Demos are supposed to be short. And farming sims are oversaturated. There's also Shinehill which I haven't gotten around to yet either.

Enh. I guess it's time to get rid of it. I'll put it on my wishlist and buy it if it's ever $2 and maybe play it then.

So this one was pretty funny. The lead actress has that weird voice you hear foreigners use sometimes and they didn't use multiple takes so they left parts where she stumbled over her words in the game or maybe they did use multiple takes and that was the best one. They also have stilted dialogue like:

>hello, my brother, the night prosecutor. How are you?

Night prosecutors aren't even a thing. Court occurs in daytime. Anyway the plot is that she gets a sponsorship deal but a unity exploit let people hack her computer and steal her nudes to blackmail her. I wish there was a fastforward button. Someone accused her of getting in a pissing contest which I don't think women can do because they just shoot straight down. I chose any dialogue option that moved things along quicker so I was shutting people up a lot. Deliberately losing the game on stream was funny too. I couldn't recognize what "game" was being played but I have my doubts they programmed a game just for that sequence so it might have been a real one.

$50,000 dollars to keep my nudes from being released? this is dumb. Oh no, if I turn off the stream he releases the nudes immediately. This is like that movie where you were stuck on the bus but way lamer. The store page said only twenty minutes how is this demo still going? oh it's over now thank god.

The demo is like 30 minutes long so i really can't tell if a adventure game is bad or good from that little writing.
Idk i feel like they should've went the 2.5 route or something, keep the 3d location and just plopped the characters' sprites in. Or just make it a point n click game. Or a straight up VN.

Highly recommend Final Sentence for anyone who likes typing games. It's a simple battle royale where you out-type everyone else in the match but the presentation top-notch. The dark room, the enforcer loading his gun as you make mistakes, seeing other players get shot in your peripheral vision, the consecutive shots ringing out as one player wins and everyone else gets executed. It's great. The demo does seem to mostly match you against bots but it's a demo so I don't mind it. It's a shame the game will probably be very dead unless they make this ludicrously cheap or free.

Agreed. The 2d art looks very good. The music was great too, but that scene of the guy trying to leave only to get teleported back into the building was ZTD tier of comedic. I also had trouble relating to the protagonist's plight when he was discussing with the bird host because of his dad's corpse in the background. I don't know if it was intentional dark humor, but I think it didn't fit.

I liked the recap segment near the end, you can tell Dark Auction was indeed made by cing/Hotel Dusk people, for the better and for the worse. Maybe the 3d exploration could help with the atmosphere like in the very first danganronpa game, but I somehow doubt it. I'm also not sure what the plot of the game will be about or rather what was the point. Will the other auction participants also have their lives at risk? It kind of felt low energy, just like hotel dusk and the last window were.

Oh and "Dictator X" instead of Hitler was silly as hell.

I can't think of any more anti-horror thing than a spooky game having to pretend to care about the mental well-being of its players. It's beyond stupid

>Once we've squashed most of the bugs and have those two updates out, we'll begin working on our 'final' update; the main goal of this update will be Steam Workshop integration. We want players to be able to easily mod the game to their mushy heart's content! Mushroom Musume was designed to be pretty easy for people to work with, so it should just take some polish and documentation to open the gates for others to add their own stories or favorite fungal gals.

Not many remember, but some fuck ass indies that ended up becoming insufferably popular and mainstream first had their discovery phase and early renown thanks to Steam Next Fest's
visibility
Balatro which was shilled for at least 3 fests and during the previous one where it formally participated before its launch and exploded into what it's today. And Mouthwashing which was discussed around here as a notable demo before the tranny community took it over the game and completely ruined its subtext.

Honestly it was just alright.
I tasted a lot of influnces from various games. Mirror's edge clearly a big one. Momentum gain to go fast, no sprint button, props like fences are placed and interacted with in the same way.
The hyped giant vehicle bossfight was underwhelming.
I'l eventully buy it but I hope it gets some more work in all aspects.

The Nier Automata influence stood out the most to me personally, although I've never played Mirror's Edge.
The bosses have clear SOTC vibes, but they could use some work to feel more epic like in that game. The MC could also use something else besides her chainsaw, maybe like a taser gun for ranged options
>>

Truck control is a little touchy, the isometric camera angle can make it really fucky to tell your precise heading.
Little bit of character interaction was brief and cute.
I love death stranding and piloting vehicles in general so this will be a nice comfy buy.

Motorslice is overhyped.
>platforming game feel is mediocre
>sluggish movement, particularly turning
>jump chaining is faster than running but requires no particular skill or timing like movement techs in other platformers
>doesn't wallrun if you aim slightly away by accident
>zero programming to help you avoid sliding off edges
>no coyote time
>enemies are simple and animated simple(and bad) with next to none startup frames on the attack because you're supposed to kill them before they can start their attack(unless you miss)
>cheap collectibles that you lose on a single death to make you replay levels/the game after you beat it entirely and know it through

I have no doubt movie game fans, AESTHETICS and streamers will be all over it, but it is not a game for fans of gameplay.

This one is pretty good turn-based strategy. Basically your character roll dices at the start of their turn and then you associate them to whatever character's abilities you want. It kinda has the typical roguelite branching missions paths but not quite since at any time you can just go back and do mission from a different branch.
>>
>>722983258
The combat animations look and feel kinda weird, and the parry window is a bit too generous, also the character designs rub me off the wrong way in the gachaslop/vtumorslop aesthetic

blah blah blah blah blah shut up and get to the gameplay, first she talks to her boyfriend about how she's not banging him and then her mom calls and they talk about even more boring stuff like get on with it. Finally, it's revealed when she has been jabbering in the backseat of the car she's been getting kidnapped this whole time. Stupid dumb bitch. maybe watch where you are going so the car doesn't take you to evil sex dungeons? Howbout that?

Anyway it's pretty good. Wishlisted. It's an SRPG game, or maybe more. Your character is kind of like the King/Queen. Powerful and keep it safe. It was interesting how they explained why the movement rules don't apply to you. It's because your robots in holographic battles can be controlled by the computer so they can have turn limits, but you are a human with agency. So no computer can stop you from freely walking around the room all you want.

I found it to be annoying to play where you have to figure out what sweet spot you need to look at to add something to evidence, and what angle and level of focus you need for a picture, on top of figuring out if the game considers that thing important at all. Took three "unimportant" pictures of the bloody bathtub and just closed the game. Feels like it'll be a game where I spend more time trying to figure out the developer's intentions than the killer's.

Melee is fine, feedback is great, but even if you replaced it all with, like, sounds of plastic bags exploding or whatever, it would still be better. Maybe it's the same library, but Hotline Miami didn't have this problem. The game itself is nice, BTW, a Hotline Miami successor that doesn't feel like total shit to play.

Yeah, that's the idea
Fanservice drive the world and sex appeal sells a product, the game It wouldn't be even a tenth as interesting if the protagonist were a fat bastard with belly physiscs. It's common sense
In the same way, Pragmata wouldn't have even a millionth of its fandom if it weren't for Diana and her adorable, ultra-realistic appearance of a child and had instead been a generic robot with neutral features and pack of human face. Splatoon wouldn't have been the hit it was if its characters had been the concept rabbits or whatever the paint-throwing placeholders were supposed to be in pre-production.

I want MOTORSLICE for the MC and her fit butt by and ONLY, the fun platforming and nice graphics/ambientation are good aditions.

I read on the steamboards the game is actually supposed to take place roughly 20 years ago, when Nicovideo was way hotter and meme'd out than it is now. Maybe complete bullshit, but if true, it'd actually be jp millennialspeak.

Regardless, my answer is "yes" either way. Just convert it to romaji like "dokidoki" or "denpa" that's already in the game. I think the vast majority of the western audience (weebs that don't speak Japanese) would love learning about a handful of nip memes they never knew about.

>>
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3741860/Vital_Shell/
Decently fun Survivors-like. Has both auto and manual targeting. You get to pick your powerups after each wave, including weapons upgrades: once you get 4 upgrades for a weapon you unlock a special effect (possibly depending on the type of upgrades chosen, but haven't checked that far yet).
IMO it nails the PSX style more than other faux-PSX games, down to the menus UI: if that's actually a good thing it's up to you to judge.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3610210/Klostyn/
Wannabe Half-Life clone/goldsrc game so retro that I played it on a CRT for the full experience. Game was alright, gameplay ok but level design was lacking. Got bored before actually finishing the demo. As above, up to you if being too authentic to the retro aspect is actually a good thing. Starting pistol also works as a shotgun, so that's a plus.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3738890/Frontline_Logistics_Isarian_Warfare/
Not actually in the NextFest as far as I'm aware, but I wanted to shill for it anyway. Rimworld/Dwarf Fortress but you're managing a combat group on the frontlines of a war: you handle both the logistics (which are effectively the focus of the game) and the fighting. Pretty good if you have autism, simulates down to the individual bullets carried by infantry squads.

Adventure game where you play as incompetent galactic tyrant. I dig the artstyle and devs are really proud to have a bunch of British comedians as voice actors, but it's the kind of adventurer game more about talking than doing puzzles and the humor is typical for "adult cartoon". I've had this game on my Wishlist for a little while, mainly because it looked like it had interesting sandbox gameplay like Postal 2 in some ways, minus the guns. I'm not saying it's anything like Postal because it's less violent and lacks the social satire, only that slapstick sort of style in gameplay. But I can't play it right now, so I'm going to post it here and hopefully someone can give their thoughts on it in later threads. It's called Odd Town and I've been curious to see if it was any good. It's open world but based in a small town.

If they crossed the line into allowing IRL porn, Steam would become a porn site indistinguishable from others like Xvideos or PornHub
It's understandable why that rule exists. When you stipulate that it must be fiction and only fiction, you remove the inherent laziness at simply filming real women having sex and demand a real creative abstraction work. Plus, hosting real porn is a very serious financial risk, tied to serious regulations.
>>
>>723041156

Features time travel.
MOCHI-O, simple game, enemies come from one side of the screen and try to go to the other side, kill them with your weaponized hamster before they can make it. Features a dangerously smug rodent.
FISH3, racing fishing game. You're fishing while racing but your being pulled along by a fish that you hooked the entire time. Features fish that come with fishbowls.

Gameplay feels great but the story is already an annoying disaster. Indie devs need to just swallow the fact that nobody, actually nobody, wants to read the low class slop they thought up using their 6th grade writing skills. If you are writing more than a paragraph within 30 minutes of gameplay STOP. Stop it. We don't care. This is not the 90s everybody has read better stories and you are not a writer.
