I'll stick with 10 for as long as possible at this point. Maybe then Linux will be less of a headache or Windows with have another half-way mediocre OS like 10 again.
I stuck with 7 until last year. I can hold out again.

Yeah, I get it, people who thought Linux can't run games without 300 lines of code transcribed into the terminal got BTFO by Steam Deck and Proton, but I don't understand how that made all other computing on Linux supposedly worse.

XP eventually became a huge virus target
7 was intentionally sabotaged
and 11 does not work on some hardware and im not paying to "upgrade" when I was tired of windows since XP.

if I didn't have controller issues on linux when I had my old laptop + rpg maker issues with the same I wouldn't even be using windows 10, which ALSO has issues with rpg maker (fullscreen doesn't work without patches)

Vista is just 7 that was released too early. 7 is bloated and slow as fuck just like Vista but the toasters that couldn't run Vista were littering a landfill by 2009.
Windows 8 is basically no different from 7 and 10... EXCEPT it has a completely dogshit UI.

>>722994740
Are you asking because you have any interest in using Linux in the first place? Or do you just want to have a debate that ends with the goalposts eventually moving to "runs 100% of games"? If you have no desire to switch to a new operating system, then you might as well just assume the answer to all your questions is no. I mean if your only concern is having an OS that does what Windows does, nothing more and nothing less, then you wouldn't switch anyway because Windows is already Windows.

The thing is that, if you don't use an online account and use a local one, your password can easily be cracked from NT Password Edit under just about any version of Hiren's Boot CD. Online accounts are the only workaround Microsoft has provided for this ancient exploit. Don't know how easy it is to script-kiddie a Linux password because I have not managed to get a 100% functional install on anything.

I don't think anybody implies that Linux is too hard to use, even if you can assume that the average person would find that true.
No, people imply that it's unusable and not fit for personal usage, at least for now, and they are right. Just because your Proton Experimental v.23.0.2.1.001 runs compatible games with an advantage of 2-3 frames per second compared to Windows does not make it a real alternative to Windows or MacOS. Come back when your audio drivers will stop randomly crashing every 2 hours.

I used Xubuntu about 10 years ago as a daily driver OS after I learned you couldn't install Vista on HDDs larger than like 512gb. After 3 months, Firefox and Chrome would inexplicably crash, even with a single tab open. I kept getting notifications to download the latest updates for the OS, and the installer would crash too. Now, I'm having an issue with my Debian laptop that's refusing to download updates because the repositories are outdated. I know this can be fixed by simply installing a newer version of Debian, but an OS shouldn't require a fresh install every two years. I've never had this problem on my Windows PCs.

My biggest gripe with windows is that basic shit like namespacing, like you have with Linux, is basically non-existent outside of "server" workloads using docker and you have to make sure you pick the right bloated base container image because windows didn't have stable syscall numberings til recently.

The irony here is most of these issues applied to XP for quite a while as well and yet retards jerk off to XP for some reason. And, same as with XP, Vista actually became a perfectly usable OS after software and hardware manufacturers caught up.

What some fags don't seem to get is that there is no reason to get rid of Windows 10.
11 only exists to restrict (even more than 10 already did) you and adds shit like even more telemetry.

That's why this time is different than before. Everyone has their limit, 10 was mine. It took me 2-3 years to switch from 8.1, and only because I could tweak 10 to my liking still, 11 is ACTIVELY trying its best to prevent any of that.

My wacom tablet worked out of the box with Linux Mint. On Windows I had to install a driver.

Kinda funny how people assume Linux has nothing when it's basically the opposite. My distro came with a media player and photo viewer that was way better than Window's default. And it includes office libre which is better than the garbage Wordpad that Windows gives you so they can charge you for Microsoft Word.

Windows is just an Adobe/Autodesk machine at this point. I can run any game I want with Steam Proton or Wine, no problems. Personally I use Krita for drawing, but if you use Photoshop then you are stuck with Windows.

the issue is simply that the linux versions of the good shit are clones (which work well) or things that work well from the get go, the thing is that some distributors don't desire and openly deride linux usage by not even running on linux by drm bullshit or breaking the thing on a certain way to fuck with wine. even with this that's the reason those annoying users should recommend applications like:https://github.com/winapps-org/winapps which let you virtualize these specific apps and integrate them when wine doesn't work by drm antics instead of hating on people who don't know, a lot of people in general don't hate linux functionality by in general ui, functionality, general system use, intuitiveness and most software working better on linux, it's simply that in the worst cases in centralized industries people don't explain or give solutions but simply want to give a false hearing of linux "being hard" to feel better of being "smarter" rather than showing linux quality and inherent ease of use as the main factors to change (see dudes which talk about how linux is like gentoo in all distros even if this is false by nearly all distros not being advanced users ones but instead being general usage ones which use graphical tools or one command usage) or simply being shills which give the worst solution to give a false idea that linux is hard by giving the worst solution to hide the real solutions.

>>723003127
correct. those anti cheats are there to sell data by anticheats using app variables on specific application not being able to catch cheaters by most cheaters nowadays using private cheats which aren't there publicly, they simply pick data to simply fingerprint info or get info in general to sell later/use it to market stuff to you.

>>
>>723002317
Either:
1. Install a businesses edition of windows, either Enterprise or Education. The latter already comes bundled in the official ISO from ms, so you don't need to use any third party source. These give you the option to "setup offline" and set a local account without any tinkering. You can activate them with the massgrave script (for more info check the Friendly Windows Thread on /g/)
2. You can download the official ms ISO from their page and use a program called RUFUS to make a bootable usb. Rufus gives you the option to bypass w11 hardware and software requirements at the setup. This is best if for any reason you want to use Home or Pro editions (although honestly that isn't recommended).
There are other ways to do it which work fine but those I gave you are the easiest methods.

most linux is simply using the graphical apps to install stuff, those things of using the terminal come in windows as well if you do more than watching videos or having to use graphical ui's.
Literally proton in most cases is simply pressing play in steam by steam play being active by default, literally this shit doesn't even happen
in comparison to this bait:
>windows explodes by itself
>when you have to use the terminal it breaks and is hard as fuck by not being good functionality to explain or put consistents guidelines like error messages
>you have more error messages if you do something a bit abnormal
>the shit goes slower, it's more bloated, works with less functionality
>has a lot of compatibility issues in older software which literally in linux is solved by clicking the .exe in wine or any other app.
i know it's bait but windows is a piece of shit which is broken and has a ton of issues, linux works from the get go and gives you a general way to fix your os without reinstalling, windows kills your os and it's nearly impossible to fix by yourself by the sheer retardation of his functionality, you won't like seeing registry shit or cmd shit in any part of your life if you hate the most advanced linux stuff in 1 command in 3 with esoteric meanings and function which no one can explain. Linux terminal is optional and the system works better with or without it, windows breaks itself and the terminal doesn't exist even to fix it, giving you the only option of reinstalling (which linux has as well but it's much more abnormal by having more easy solutions, even giving you automatic tools and gui applications by users in general use distros)

Older games are easily playable. If you heard otherwise, it was because Windows shills who never touched Linux like to throw everything and see what sticks, e.g. this schizo babble over here >>723001093 in addition to all the conflicting claims of what Linux supposedly can and can't do.
>It only runs popular games!
>It only runs indie games!
>It only runs new games!
>It only runs old games!
All bullshit. The only categorical statement you can make is that it's less likely to work with online games, specifically those which rely on anti-cheat middleware that either blocks Linux outright or needs to check things that Linux won't allow. A number of single-player games also don't work for various reasons, invariably related either to proprietary video codecs or bad development practices i.e. using Windows API hacks too obscure to be implemented in Wine, but it's not just the old games or just the new games or anything like that.
There's no reliable data on what percentage, because ProtonDB only lists Steam games and a ton of those games don't have any sufficiently recent reports while WineHQ AppDB is practically dead so the few reports there are even less likely to be up-to-date, not to mention ProtonDB's method of coming up with average ratings is highly questionable at best. You'll just have to look up some games you like and read the recent reports to see how compatible they are.

the thing is that in mint you can recover by general terminal (by installing a good kernel) if you are advanced, if not these types of bad updates (which can even be caused by specific settings like secure boot or things like that) can be solved by using a live usb which can let you update correctly by having an environment to keep using the system for info or simply to get specific files to update to the good kernel or even reinstall if the issue is too extreme. windows only gives you a reinstall and normally by the updates being cycle dependent rather than original file you will be fucked by being forced the same update which borked your pc (which normally is a general os failure which fucks with everything) so you cannot escape the situation on the first place.
Linux has a lot of options ranging from easy to hard, windows only has one option which is made shit by retarded functionality on the system, still that issue in mint was wrong and is good that it got solved by fixing a bad update

I already use linux as my main OS, windows I've been using just for games for quite some time and the restrictions 11 wants are basically unworkable, Secureboot is shit I refuse to enable that which effectively restricts your device to only booting operting systems that MS has signed and cleared as okay and I won't enable TPM because that's just a backdoor to DRM and MS being able to hardware ban PCs. People that upgrade to 11 and enable either of those two things are fucking retarded.
>>
>>723004839
you don't have to do this, unless you are opening the system (which in the solution is to reinstall if you fucked everything and you don't know how to fix) you never have to fix it, in windows opening the system is impossible and you don't even need to by the system breaking itself for you without doing anything (and you cannot fix it unless you know 4 commands with perfect requirements to fix and the syntax of eso lang autism while making normally reinstall harder or simply not fixing anything on certain cases, linux always let the reinstall happen and has general 1 to 2 command fixes if you go for the advanced route so it's easy in the easy way and in the hard way, unlike windows).
Aka windows breaks itself, linux even if hit with a hammer can be fixed easily while not breaking itself so you don't even have to troubleshoot on the first place.

2d in blender is confusing and you will have to watch tuts. you are klnd of projecting on a 2d target screen in 3d space. my experience is with making animated assets that get composited on top of live video for educational content. if you've never used blender it will take awhile. it's still less janky than trying it in gimp.

Just tested it with a ISO extracted from microsoft, still works.
They only blocked one of them, and not even the usual OOBE\BYPASSNRO that is used the most or rufus ISO editing one.

Yeah you're describing the troonix experience pretty much

fuck, forgot to mention blender runs on nodes so if you are used to layers like after effects that might be a dealbreaker for you

>dedicated animation suite
Like what? Any dedicated animation software is really expensive or has really lousy drawing tools. Krita is a good drawing software and you don't need much for animation, just a working timeline and layers.
