People who play rpgs are not playing new games. It's a waste of time. They all play like 10 games in between just grinding diablo or some mmo. People need to pay attention to that. If someone isn't optimistic about the future, that's a dangerous person to listen to and you'll be worse off for following them. You can look at the catalogue now and no one wants to play anything. That's the culture the rpg spam has ushered in. You had a whole board to try this on and it failed. This is objectively a failed experiment and it didn't work. If you can't change your tune and find new things to be excited about this is a waste. Having a narrow scope of experience just means having less things to play. I'm also a zoomer, it took me a few attempts over the years to get into classic Fallout. For like 5 years I would start the game and get bored around Vault 15 and quit.
One day I just said "fuck it, I don't care how bored I get, I'm going to sit down and actually beat this" and around the time I got to Necropolis the game finally clicked with me and I started having a lot of fun.

Yeah. 3 genuinely had a lot of solid ideas that would've made for a great Fallout game had it not been developed by Bethesda.
Meanwhile NV is just pretty good. It's really just a bog-standard "old franchise resurrected and dumbed down" title. I feel like if Bethesda Fallout didn't exist, people would be far more critical of NV as a sequel to 2.

For me it clicked at around Junktown when I helped Killian kill Gizmo. I think I didn't play it for a while because I was intimidated by the difficulty and time limit. But actually I don't think the game is that hard, the difficulty progression is pretty smooth. It's just that it doesn't really hold your hand in terms of directions

Same here, except I bounced off it like three separate times over the years because the interface just felt like molasses. I kept going back because the atmosphere stuck with me-just walking into Shady Sands and hearing that somber music again would keep me going for a few more hours. When it finally "clicked" for me was The Glow. That whole area, with how punishing it is and how much story it tells through ruins alone, made me realize the game’s way smarter and more ambitious than I gave it credit for.

And yeah, if NV had been the first 3D Fallout, it would’ve caught way more flak. People forget how much goodwill it got for fixing what Fallout 3 broke. It's not bad, just not the messiah people try to frame it as.
