>>729019448DIC King Koopa was a cowardly little bitch. He never tries fighting the Bros. directly without a power-up, which was a weird choice since he was clearly capable of that in the games and why shouldn't he be, he was/is a giant monster turtle. Not to mention he was constantly ripping off other bad guys to look more credible>Look I'm LARPing as Darth Vader>Look now I'm the Nazis from Indiana JonesWeirdly enough DIC went the exact opposite direction with Dr. Robotnik. Robotnik/Eggman in the games fights with machines and hadn't done anything physically impressive at that point; DIC's Robotnik was a fucking freak who smashes through walls and rips apart metal with his bare hands.

>>729021529It's funnier if the big scary monster is a boisterous loser and coward who has other people fight his battles for him whenever he can, and never fights fair when he has no choice but to do it himself. It makes sense in the context of the games that had been released up to that point too. You never actually see King Koopa in the first game until the end of 8-4. He pulls the same illusion trick 7 fucking times. And is barely any less of a pushover than the 7 assholes he had fighting in his place. And on the other hand, it's also funny to portray the fat, bald, old nerd as a force of nature unto himself. And that ALSO lines up with the games. You see Robotnik at the end of almost every Zone. He's personally in the trenches taking lumps every time. Surviving explosions of all sizes, intentionally setting massive wildfires, triggering earthquakes and all kinds of other shit. And he's doing it all 100% himself with a huge maniacal grin on his face the whole time.Robotnik doesn't fuck around for a second. King Koopa does absolutely nothing BUT fuck around. The only reason the DiC characterizations feel so weird today is that we have the benefit of knowing where the official sources ended up taking the characters as they added more detail. At the time, they were extremely consistent with how the characters actually appeared in the games, and the vast majority of that was informed by how you interacted with them in broad strokes.
>>729019584What the hell is this?>public domain cartoonsOh wow, so they went all cheapskate on this? I think they ddin't even have the Nintendo licenses, and technically went around this by using "King Koopa" and then never mentioning Mario? They could argue that King Koopa is an original character that DiC owns. Fuckin' lame dollar store shit.
>>729021529DiC couldn't think of any original stories for the Super Show so they just parodied movies, TV shows, and comics. And some of their choices were some pretty deep cuts. What kid is going to know about or have watched Quest for Fire? Or Fantasy Island? Or Guess Who's Coming To Dinner? Or fucking Full Metal Jacket?

>>729022672Fantasy Island was so big that a Daffy Duck compilation movie from the 80s used a Fantasy Island setpiece to tie all the shorts together.
>>729022652Apparently, it was a partially live show that ran out of one over-the-air broadcast station in Los Angeles, for some reason. It wasn't distributed That's why almost nothing of it survives to this day. Charitably, maybe it was a passion project of some kind. To see if they could keep the format relevant and modern. A format that The Simpsons would end up dragging through the mud just a few years later.I absolutely wouldn't be surprised if it was just a huge shitpost because some Boomer at Fox 11 kept pushing for a show like the ones he watched as a kid. The fact that they called it something that abbreviated to KKKK certainly points to that. It's even entirely possible that The Simpsons took that joke from this shit. It lived and died over like 2 months in 1989. Long before the "KKK? That's not good." Joke came up on The Simpsons.
>>729025370It's probably just budget related. 1. We have the rights to these characters. 2. What is the cheatest shit we can use with this? The format is just some kids in a crowd, and some jerk in a cheap costume. It's pretty easy and straight forward. you dont' have to produce any animation for it. They were just showing shitty cartoons as well.
>>729025529They built a whole set and a decent number of props for it, and they created a handful of new characters wholesale who didn't show up in the SMB Super Show. The cheapest thing they could have done is animate less than one episode's worth of original cartoon of King Koopa and just stitch it together in different ways for his interstitial segments. They could still have had the live aspects by putting a big monitor in a set piece on the soundstage and having King Koopa interact with the audience that way. They went with the big production, provocative name and creepy costume on purpose. They wanted to piss off parents just enough to make kids feel like they were cool for getting to watch it. That, plus the viewer calls to action and the promise of prizes and shit were supposed to be enough to get kids watching old cartoons they wouldn't have given a shit about otherwise.
