>we've lived to see .hack come backHoly shit.
I've gotta see gameplay footage and mechanics before I seriously judge it. It probably won't have the SOUL of the originals and G.U, but I'm hoping it can somewhat capture the feeling, also hope the writing is good. I really enjoyed the original and G.U stories.
>>733278958I'm worried about CC2 having absolute control, though. People like to villainize publishers, but they tend to be the voice of reason.
and some people wanted another jjk game lol
I bought that bundle of the PS2 games on steam a few weeks ago for like 20 dollars, I remember I almost rented them from blockbuster a ton of times as a kidI'll play them someday
>>733278958this is one of those rare instances I'd rather see the remaster first, but I guess Last Record proved their point already

>>733278958What about the IMOQ remake
These .hack threads have been comfy the last couple of dayshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkxSlKVXF34>>733279014Same. I wasn't exactly thrilled at the new look for Kite but I'm still glad the series is getting some love again. I can take more generic anime designs if the gameplay and story are good, even though the original games were practically hard carried by the atmosphere and vibe.>>733279058It's probably a ton of pressure. Not only is Bandai/Namco putting a lot of faith in CC2 by giving them full creative control, but the longtime fans are going to have high expectations as well. The good thing is they genuinely seem to love the series, so I'm hoping that shines through in the final product.
>>733278958>>733278958should i play .hack//GU last recode? i have it on steam for some reason, no idea where i got it (maybe a humble bundle?). i want a decent hack and slash action RPG, haven't played one in a while.
>>733279601I'm already impressed they survived the Fuga trilogy.
Dude, just take off your headset lmao what could go wrong?
>>733279338>>733279415I'm personally still holding out hope that they'll drop a remaster out of the blue while we're waiting for //Z.E.R.O. to release. On the other hand, I don't want it to get outsourced to a bunch of jeets and have the games be tainted by all the hallmarks of a quick, shitty remaster.
>>733279603Sure. Added episode isn't AS good, but still worth playing.
Idk anything about this IP
>>733279014There's no actual way that the gameplay is worse than the old games. Neither the original nor G.U. had good gameplay.
>>733279864It's kind of a bitch to get into nowadays because it was designed as a true multimedia franchise. Problem is some of that stuff that's not games or anime are hard to get your hands onto these days, and it's not merely supplementary material the way FF15 did it, for example.
>>733279864It's 100% certified weebshit. probably from the ps2 era and maybe poorly if even localized
>>733279864.hack walked so sao could run
>they haven't done a non-fighting action game on consoles in 14 years with asura's wrath which was still a boss fight QTE game>and solotarobo and .hack//link in 2010, 16 years ago>the closest you get is dbz kakarot which was still another boss game mostly with some stupid side challenges and minigamesDo they even have what it takes to actually make a whole ass JRPG and simultaneously make the combat not total dogbutts? I guess they have the experience for plenty of combat mechanics, but not for dungeon crawling.
>>733280069.hack did the whole MMO thing way better. It's actually shocking what a snapshot of the early period it is.
I am a bit worried about the localization. I really hope they hire competent people and not some californian retards that pump the script with zoomerlingo. I really hope they keep the 2ch vibe G.U. had.
>>733279864It's a speculative fiction, multimedia franchise set in a "near future" version of ~2010. It focuses on a popular MMO that's begun having a string of odd things surrounding it, both in and out of the game, and with several people entering comas after playing. The main story is presented over a 26 episode anime, a four part PS2 game series, and four OVAs that came with each of the four original PS2 games, each showing the story from multiple different characters' views. The main drive is figuring out what's causing the comas and anomalous events in the game.
ive been thinking but isnt g.u.'s battle system basically ff7 remake? did shit enix really steal from cc2?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6l15AFUuaoQBest desktop theme, comin' through. Putting the Mac Anu theme as the desktop music in the first four games is pretty damn good too though.
>>733278958Maybe it shoulda stayed dead.
This series is fucking weird, by the way. Revisiting SIGN and IMOQ is honestly pretty fucking boring, but at the time, there was just something special about it. Was it just because I was a teenager at the time? Did it hit at just the right time?I should play through G.U. Recode again.
>>733280929Nah, there's enough to 7R on its own terms to say it's more an evolution of prior FF titles than just .hack, though I do get where you're coming from. But even with that in mind, CC2 were originally developing the remake themselves before Square took it all in-house, whether due to quality concerns or dissatisfaction of some other shit. Or Square hitting an oh-shit button, we don't actually know yet. In any case with that link established, it DOES make sense why some elements of that design remain at least.
>>733279338unlike the bore that was xenosaga trilogy, this was how you did that shit

>>733281047>CC2 were originally developing the remake themselvesnow that is some lore i wasnt aware of at all. i usually look around news and stuff but never heard that one.
>>733281169I remember trading in my original copies of IMOQ like a retard when I was 16-17 so I could get games for my 360, only to hunt down another set of them a few years later when I got the urge to play them again. So glad I was able to find them at relatively normal prices compared to how inflated they've gotten now, especially Outbreak and Quarantine. Still have them and their respective Liminality discs in good condition.

>>733281047>give the remake of final FUCKING fantasy 7 to studio stuck in anime mineswhat in the fuck?
>>733281398I don't know why they would wait so long to do remasters and what not of the originals, but if we do get them, it'll be WAYYYY later, like years from now I'd think. They're not going to just drop a new .Hack game alongside a remaster or remasters of the original, unless it's something they've been working on in secret for years.

>>733278958ok guys redpill me on .Hackdid i miss out? because i dont really get it.>be a huge fan of jrpgs>first game comes out, hear about a mnaga series and anime as well, this might be the next big thing>play the first game as soon as it comes out>pretty mediocre at the start but not bad so far>setting stuff up, introductions etc.>finally after 10 hours reach the first real challenge, everything else was a breeze up untill now>beat the first real boss>"ok this was actually fun, lets fucking go, this is getting fun">credits start rolling>i felt fucking cheated, is this game really just 10 hours long? it felt like they took a jrpg and just spliced it into 4 parts to sell them seperatly>never touch the franchise againWas i wrong or is the franchise a fucking scam?I actually tried watching the anime some time after but the first 2 episodes didnt hook me and i just got reminded of my disappointment and dropped it
>>733281460To be fair, the R1 games were literally one game with almost all of the data intact besides specific bosses, items and tweaks since Infection; they effectively just split it up and staged the separate releases for the sake of the extra media to coincide for an artificial hype cycle. If Bandai, Kadokawa and CC2 weren't cheeky fucks, it probably could've all been in one game from the word go.
>>733278958I've seen barely any hype around ZERO's announcement. Probably because no one remembers .hack anymore and it's been replaced by franchises like SAO.
I'm still not playing SC6, fuck you.
famitsu will drop new info in 7 hrs. There will be more concept arts
>2026>still no [The World] MMOwhy live
>>733281514No, IMOQ is a scam. The discs have junk data on them to meet Sony minimum file sizes. There's data for stuff you won't see until Quarantine... on the Infection disc. At least one of the "games" is just complete fucking filler, and that's outside of the inane amount of useless filler in the rest of them. It's an interesting story that was propped up by its novelty and ambition rather than the actual gameplay, which makes them awful to revisit in 2026.Also SIGN is a cerebral anime where there's very little playing of the MMO despite taking place in one. Granted, 50-75% of the gameplay of these MMOs was in fact standing in town shooting the shit, but it's a very dry, conversational anime that I can understand isn't for everyone.

>>733260010>Her armor kinda looks similar to the one the new Black Rose is wearing, so maybe she was a prototype?I wouldn't be surprised if she was the prototype for the new BlackRose given the similarities in their designs. >>733280982This is my fear. Did I really just waste 13 hours watching a boring anime to have the prereq knowledge to not enjoy the PS2 games? I enjoy slow-paced, character driven stories btw. The archaic nature of the PS2 games sounds fun too.

That's why they haven't release a remaster of the original games. It makes sense to since for the 10th or was it the 15th anniversary they released the .Hack GU Recode instead. They only had the source code for the .Hack GU games so they remastered those instead and released them on what would have been the anniversary of the original 4 games release. It's also probably why .hack//Zero is clearly setup to be a reboot of the original 4 games. Whether or not this ends up being good or bad remains to be seen but it is clear that this will be CC2's Rebuild of Evangelion version of the first 4 games. Also the original 4 games were suppose to be 1 game but they couldn't fit it all on one disk so they had to split it up into multiple releases/volumes kind of like DVD/BluRay releases.

I like the main character, Sora, and I like her voice a lot. Nanami Sakuraba's naturalistic acting (she isn't a professional seiyuu) imbued the character with so much nuance and realism. The World: Force Era is neat and so ambitious that, even though the movie came out in 2012, I doubt even the new game is going to match its scale and content. Despite being a movie, they went all out and created a backstory for its setting, classes, NPC, etc. The artbook is a treat. >>https://e-hentai.org/g/2227882/7f3079163a/?p=5

Kind of sad that not a single MMO has the character customization and character expression that .hack made me imagine future mmos would have. The closest character customization wise is PSO2.And every rpg suffers from build minmaxing metagaming autism at the very least, so unique character expression is completely out. It's probably not possible and even if it was mmo players would hate the idea of unique classes/skills.
>>733318008The level of character customization in .//hack is otherworldly. No game development studio would have the time to make all that shit. Look at games where 'fashion' is considered end-game and you still end up with same-same and copy-pasta characters. Almost EVERYONE is unique in the .//hack series save for more important characters who serve as the ARCHETYPE.>kite>balmung>bear>mimiru/blackrose>elk/sora
>>733318272>soraTsukasa*
>>733318008>>733318272I could have sworn there were a few winks and nods toward the limitations of character customization with several characters just being recolors of the same base model. And that was part of the explanation of why characters mistook someone for another. Because ultimately there were only a handful of options. Like Bear/Orca and Shion/Atoli etc. Black Rose was a copypaste of her friend as well.
>>733289841Yes. Because I got to play them. And I liked them. So I kept them. I do see that as a win.

>>733278958https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhYd8eqAn9YUsing the same general designs for Kite, Black Rose, and Balmung along with the original sound effects for the Twilight Bracelet makes me think this is some sort of remake.Black Aura though sheds a lot of doubt on that though. Maybe it's a reboot?
>>733310795I've played almost everything you have and I would still say .hack's gameplay sucks total ass, it was bad even for its time and I don't know why people are so afraid of saying they liked the game in spite of it. It's totally fair, everything else the games did make up for it heavily. It's fine to admit the games you like have faults.
>>733304328We fucking won, now hopefully the game is good.
>>733318819I enjoy unique games these days, even if theyre "bad", defining something as "bad" means oops other games did things better so lets never try things ever again, and every game becomes the same slop and variety dies.So no yeah, i'll take IMOQ's gameplay whole heartedly because at the fucking very least it's unique without being outright terrible.

>>733321906Only one character in SIGN is stuck in the game. Certain people get put into a coma due to circumstances.
>>733321906No.It's more like there's an underlying problem in the game which would affect the world at large, but the majority of the players are unaware of the big picture while most everyone can log out.Worst case scenarios are usually people being put into a coma (or being stuck ala Tsukasa and Sora being one of the special cases). The music and art direction mog every other MMO anime for me personally... notsomuch GU's and on's art direction but it's still good.

>>733323576Sign, Legend of Twilight, and Roots were all on Toonami
>>733318008>>733318272I really don't know what you're talking about. every class had like two or three models each for male and female, very limited hairstyles, and maybe a color slider for main clothing color and hair at best. Some supplemental material imply a height slider. This is basically the same setup as the phantasy star games. For example blademaster in R:1 has, as far as I can tell, two female models (mimiru/blackrose and rachel) and maybe 3 male models (bear/orca, sieg, crimson knights/marlo), depending on how you think about everyone in the skull version of the outfit. Wavemaster has oldman and elk/tsukasa for males, and mistral and BT(/helba) for females. so on and so forth. Also keep in mind that kite's orange is a nonstandard color for twin blades, so there might not even be a slider, but a palette selection.
I'm worried a modern .hack won't feel anything like a mmorpg. The originals were such a reflection of the times and the kind of games available at the time. All of the currently popular mmos are already old, .hack's time period is practically ancient in comparison.
>>733323253honestly I don't think there was a tank class. just aggro management between the bulkier classes in a party and wavemaster heals.

>>733279679LTB has never been CC2's moneymaker, anon. They do it purely for love of the game.
>>733326132GU feels more MMO than IMOQ in a sense that they actually try to do in-game events, actual side quests, while making player trades more valuable and engaging if you catch their name and dialogue referencing from the message boards. The main story and characters are weaker, but the gameplay and MMO feel is an overall improvement.
>>733326235Their improvement within the same generation was impressive. Though they ended up becoming something of a style over substance company.
>>733318816Based on the material provided in Matsuyama's interview:>What I can say is that it doesn't directly connect to the past series.>There's absolutely no need to feel intimidated thinking, “I don't know the .hack series” or “It seems hard to get into because it's part of a series...”>On the surface, it carries the message: “We are restarting ‘.hack’ from zero.” It is a reboot of the franchise in its entirety, filtered through a modern lens of the internet. >Matsuyama: While it was set against the backdrop of the “online dawn era,” today networks—including social media—have become an integral part of daily life. Consequently, our sense of distance from the internet has changed dramatically since then. I believe today's online world harbors more ‘malice’ and “creepiness” than ever before. It's borrowing the familiar aesthetic of the original characters, but "Kite" is currently an unnamed protagonist.
>>733327013Well, when you're stuck working in Bamco's licensed anime fighter mines, style over substance is probably the order of the day.

Sure, probably don't pack in all the improvements and changes, or else The World R1 being too close to R2 is an undeniable weirdness, but they're also not so far removed that they're incompatible in various ways, either.

We see hints of it in the trailer with Not!Kite reaching out for help online for his depression and everyone telling him to stop being a bitch a fuck off (he blocks them.) Then we see a visual of him retreating into The World and he catches Evil Aura's eye. For clearly altruistic and magnanimous purposes, she exploits his vulnerability and gives him the power of a digital school shooter by granting him the Twilight Bracelet. You can see the grooming/manipulation in the on the nose black & white key visual. I, for one, am pretty excited to see where we go from here.

To be fair, "Kite" was also just kind of a default name for a character you could name whatever you want, and even G.U. held to that; the animes and other materials used the name for sake of ease. >>733331563GU had a more coherent story and better characters than the initial run, but it completely lost the urban legend/creepypasta elements that made the originals so darn interesting. It also massively embraced the more "anime" elements which is an odd complaint to have, but its one none the less as it stopped feeling like an early arg. You could genuinely write an essay on the series, its tone, how it shifted, how neither series ever delivered on what it set out to do, and how all those things were overlooked at the time just because it capitalized on several up and coming fads that would eventually become cultural staples. Moreover, how a new .hack game feels sort of asinine and how difficult it's going to be to deliver what the originals set out to considering mmo's aren't really the cultural phenomenon they once were and how internet culture is so widespread and ugly rather than something that was new and interesting.

>>733332425Not listening to a gacha players opinion on anything so thanks for outting yourself.
>>733331869It is though, but you'd need to expound on it. The original series didn't really present itself as your standard anime fare. From Sign, the novels, and the games it was more about how regular people got drawn into the mysteries of various MMO urban legends and had to deal with them. Some of these stories were far too cryptic for their own good and, in the case of IMOQ, there isn't much of a payoff and the way the story is presented is... just, downright bad. It has an amazing hook at the beginning, two games of pointless filler, and an ending that will leave you feeling pretty lost.GU had a more "over the top" nature for better and worse. The story really only suggested you watch the prequel anime, but you'd get it just fine if you didnt. Problem is, it almost completely abandoned the creepier aspects and Haseo and friends felt more like "chosen heroes" rather than regular people with regular lives. There are still really good parts in the story, but it also doesn't really capture the down to earth tone the original series had. (Of course, there were some entries in the original run that were more anime too though. Legend of the Twilight Bracelet being one of them)>>733332181We'll just have to wait and see what they deliver. I like CC2 a lot, but they're fighting an uphill battle with this one. Internet culture sucks now of days and the mystery and mystique around it are completely gone. Same with mmo's. You also have localizers you have to worry about, but other anons last thread said the fuga localizers were solid so hopefully they are okay in that department. They've had a lot of experience since their older titles, so hopefully they can deliver a proper gameplay to go with their story... but like I said, the trailer alone looks kinda generic to me and the headphones on the MC worry me considering it doesnt fit into the high fantasy of the original or the steam punk fantasy of GU. It just looks more generic this go around.
>>733332289Fuga were good games, bro.
>>733332425in fact, Liminality and Sign both being concurrent anime, but the art styles differing so incredibly is the perfect contrast. The events of the past games would probably still be canon but the characters we play might be entirely different people using a familiar skin. The World shutting down and re-releasing with a new graphical update has been the story in every piece of media they released.I suspect cameos of people from the past games, older and probably even recruitable as a party member as some sort of easter egg. >>733332958>japanese exagerated full force anime media being "too" anime as if that's a valid complaint.I set the precedent in terms of Liminality, Sign, and IMOQ, to which my statements are true. You see Anime as an entire scheme, where these three had already set a standard that GU radically changed from. Link is an average PSP action RPG game with fanservice, but the story is a split between one character having an interesting story, and the rest of it being a glut of gobbledygook nonsense bullshit trying too hard to "modernize" the series with a Digimon flavor. >>733336653Oh, and USE THE CORE GUIDE or suffer later. Get as comfortable in the menus as you can as you need to be cuing up not only kites attack, but your party members as well. Trading is broken, abuse it. That's the tldr and I think that covers the most important of the tips I share.

One thing I think I realized that actually helped me with the original games was that using Data Drain was actually generally gonna be advantageous. Data Drain everything. If you see a new monster, Data Drain it. You should be Data Draining a few times every dungeon. I found this useful because A) it let me accumulate a healthy supply of Virus Corse, and B) if I didn't get a Virus Core, I'd get an item, and this could also be nice. Sure you got less EXP, but EXP wasn't really a concern in those games.

>>733336338Most of the high level Twin-blade weapons have fire attacks. His clothes might also not be a color players can choose by default since it was changed by the bracelet. If you see someone running around wearing a unique red color and mostly using fire skills, it wouldn't take much for you to associate flame with them.
>>733336338No. It is "officially" reserved for the victors of The One Sin Event, Balmung and Orca. His feats (Saving The World) just granted him the title among players.

>>733337189Eyup. Try doing what >>733337149 said but at the end of each entry look up a core guide online and check to make sure you got the cores you needed as going back later when you're over leveled is a MASSIVE pain. Almost the entire length of Quarantine comes from them expecting you to have not gotten the cores you needed. It's an artificial grind that is miserable if you don't follow the guide.

>>733337189You don't need a guide for virus cores, its very simple and is correctly explained in game. They're just annoying to collect since you need a ton of them at certain points, especially in games 3 and 4. Data Draining enemies gives cores, you're more likely to get cores if your infection level is low. What enemy drops what core is based on their level range and the enemy's size. Infection areasSmall - AMedium - BLarge - CMutation areasSmall - DMedium - ELarge - FOutbreak areasSmall - GMedium - HLarge - IQuarantine areasSmall - JMedium - KLarge - LAll other cores are gotten automatically from bosses or through the story. So you never have to worry about x,y,z etc.
>>733336461PAL doesn't have nip voices unlocked by default
>>733337675The guides telling you how many you should have by the end of every entry in preparation for Quarantine. That is something I think you should use a guide for as there are sections of official guides detailing how to not rage quit when grinding for them at the final game as the rng can be rough.
>>733336461>>733336685Also, it's one of those games made in a time where dubs were pretty solid. I actually prefer some of the Eng voices to the Nip.
>>733337543There was a pair of spanish dedicated forums in the 2000'. They died eventually like any other.I made a handful of friends that I still see very often and played MMOs like Ragnarok with them.
The thing that kind of bothers me about Haseo is that he kinda just had everything handed to him. With Kite, it was just like >"Here's a magic bracelet, figure the rest out on your own." With Haseo, it was more like like >"Go here and do this. Now go there and do that." >"Here's a power-up by the way." >"Here, let me just tell you exactly what you need to do. I'll carefully explain everything for you so you don't have to actually put in any effort yourself.">"Also here's a new form, just for you. You earned it." >"In fact, take two. And another power-up."
>>733337809I replayed these games last year and it really wasn't that bad. Obviously I had some foreknowledge, but even without knowing the exact numbers I didn't have to do very much grinding at the end. It was mostly just getting a bunch of J's. As long as you're constantly stealing it shouldn't be too much of a problem.
>>733337585Hack did predict how FFXIV would end up
>>733337985I guess it depends on how much you think you could stomach that aspect after playing through Infection. I for one hated the entire core mechanic, some people can stomach it better. I'd still recommend using the guide though as I'd say a lot of people don't like being artificially locked out of progress to some rng collectibles.
>>733278958EVEN NOW, WE ARE HEROES OF THE WORLD
>>733338024.hack has a lot of 11 in it which in turn makes it similar to 14. 14 did 100% take .hack's boss doors though even if they were based on burning circles.
>>733337964That's the "anime" aspect people are complaining about with GU. Like I said earlier, I think GU tells a tighter story and does a better job with the characters, but it loses a ton of the magic that made R:1 feel special. You weren't just a random character that stumbled upon something way bigger and crazier than himself and drawn into it to save a friend, Haseo was "the chosen one".
