Like the ear, I wanted both ears to be more or less the same size, so I selected one with the lasso and just pressed ctrl+t to transform it.If you do trad, the equivalent would be to sketch with very low pressure and erase, to mostly figure out volumes and shapes, before applying pressure or ink for the finalized lines. I also do some trad too sometimes. You don't cheat as blatantly, but it's way more forgiving in some aspects. Everyone has different ways to sketch and arrive to the answers they need before proceeding to the next steps, some artists have really clean sketches, and others are shite like me lol. What matters is the info, what info you carry to the next step. Some drawing courses put a lot of emphasis in landmarking at this step, because that's what tells you how to draw your clean lines that convey the right proportions and volumes of your subject
