If the disc or game keycard is damaged or lost, you can't download the game anymore. You have to switch media to switch games. Physical media is incredibly slow compared to most first world internet providers. A UHD Bluray discs averages about 50MB/s copying in the best conditions. It's actually a bit worse in reality. 50MB/s is 400mbit, and that's on the bottom tier of what a lot of providers offer.It's better to just download the game with no physical component, so you have it available with no strings attached for the forseeable future.
