if you're on an AMD card there's basically no excuse
the 9070 rapes every card on price to performance anyway so it's the best upgrade out there

The rtx 6000 pro straight up rapes anything AMD will ever produce. It's better in every single way possible. AMD is for the poor. The rtx 6000 pro is more than twice as fast as the 9070 xt on native, double the frames from DLSS, another doubling from not needing to enable expensive antialiasing since DLSS performance looks better than native AMD 8* MSAA, and quadruple from multi frame generation. That is 32 times as fast as the 9070 xt. Meanwhile FSR4 is basically just an alternative algorithm for non-integer scaling with the monitor and is debatable on whether it even looks better than just running at a low resolution.

If SteamOS is the future of PC gaming, then it's better off dead.

Valve are a company of liars and frauds. They do not deserve your money for their consumer-unfriendly practices.
>>
>>735867865
That doesn't implement age verification, only a storage field for birth date. SteamOS doesn't use that storage file, neither does Arch. SteamOS also has old version of systemD anyway, and likely is going to implement age verification through steam account just like Microsoft is going to do with Microsoft account.

Why was Linux so bad for decades tho? It seems that it was dogshit until Steam started fucking around with it in like 2016.
Were the people making Linux retarded? Why has it taken decades to make it XP tier?
>>
>>735880562
They were mainly using Linux as a productivity not gaming software, they were utilizing it server-side because they didn't want to deal with Windows bullshit and they could just control every aspect of it. Android being a sort of a fork from Linux proved you could make stuff utilizing that shit in other environments as well, then steam, AI helped boost development of Linux I'm pretty sure which lead to a boost of proper use-case and usage in non-work related fields as well.

>thinking the most open and customizable operating system will be the first to lock down age restrictions when it's still not clear how such a thing would even be implemented when users can just rip out the code that does it
lol.
Supporting the storage of metadata that age-restricted applications might hypothetically use in the future isn't the same as forcing users to prove their age. As it stands, age being stored in some JSON field on disk means any user with sudo can just put their age in there without having to prove anything to some corporation. Will you still try to dunk on Linux for offering a text field to be filled in my the system administrator (me) when Windows requires uploading a photo of a government ID to prove your age to the system administrator (Microsoft)?

Or a win32 compatibility layer and native games on a modern and well supported Free UNIX foundation.

Please explain how the combination of GNU/Linux Native + Proton (Valve maintained win32) is worse than the status quo of gaming on NT where there are no native games and everything runs through Microsoft's legacy compatibility layer (deprecated and unmaintained).
NT is pretty clearly on its way out. Not even Microsoft uses it internally anymore for serious workloads, and only one GPU vendor even really bothers with drivers for it.

Yeah, the laws themselves are dumb legislation being purchased by Facebook so they can pass the responsibility off to the OS vendor.
The patches to add a stupid select box at user account creation isn't that big of a deal either.

The big problem comes when Apple or Microsoft create a patented age verification system, or license one from another closed vendor who force you to share personally identifying information, that becomes the de-facto standard, and then there is functionally a law enforcing the duopoly and creating a barrier to entry.
Which also conveniently works for de-anonymizing anyone at any time.

You can't do that on NT 11, and its compatibility layer doesn't have the configuration to let you switch things so they will work. In the past devs could patch around NT's terrible win32 compatibility, but now Microsoft's enshitification is outpacing developer work arounds and just throwing hardware at the problem isn't practical anymore.
DOS compatibility on NT eventually got bad enough open source tools took over.
Same thing happening now with running Windows software on NT's compatibility layer.

Was gonna make a thread but then I noticed there already was one.

Big news for Wine gamers, now WINEDLLOVERRIDES will be applied automatically if needed

>convert
No, sounds stupid, but you can install literal powershell and use it as your shell instead of bash.
>>
the only thing keeping me from switching to linux are the chinese anticheats from shitty coomer gachas that don't work on it, like ACE
>>
>>735928447
it says that it was not merged into the master
>>
>>735928597
It's on another commit, scroll down
>>
>>735928447
That was closed and rejected for good reason, though.
>>
I have been hearing that for over 10 years now
>>
Linux will never be mainstream. Simply because windows users are too retarded to learn how ot use another OS.
>>
>>735928676
Oh. Actually, what got merged is better.
tl;dr if a DLL is in a game's folder and the vendor isn't listed Microsoft in that DLL's versioning info, it will be loaded as if the mode is n;b.
>>
>>735928993
>Linux will never be mainstream
And that's a good thing!
Linux currently has the exact amount of attention and traction necessary for it to get progressively better and better while Windows keeps going to shit. Going mainstream would undoubtedly result in a worse Linux.
>>
>>735928993
>Linux will never be mainstream.
Only because every time there is a successful mainstream Linux distribution, it magically stops being "Linux" for some strange reason.
>>
>>735928979
Linux wasn't making those gains 10 years ago

Most Asians are horrendous when it comes to PC literacy in general
They produce real aces but their normies are just awful
>>
>>735926126
Since when? I use them all the time
Sys wine installs, just doubleclick the exe
Then add the installed game to steam for proton and big picture

>The rtx 6000 pro straight up rapes anything AMD will ever produce.
"ever" is a pretty strong word but there is definitely some catching up they need to do
was mad they didn't do a flagship so swapped to this from my 7900xtx that I still have nearby just in case
>>
>>735892629
basically, yeah
nvidia cares about Linux and 595 fixed a few of the only major issues I was seeing with a very small number of games

What are you on about, those just work
>>
>>735929581
Because the second it gets normie-friendly it’s suddenly “based on Linux” instead of Linux™.

Android? “Not real Linux.”
ChromeOS? “Not real Linux.”
SteamOS when it gets popular? You’ll see the same shit.

Truth is, the kernel already won. It just doesn’t count unless you have to compile your own printer driver and argue about init systems on a forum from 2009.

I won't use linux because linux people are insufferable and that's enough reason
Also they're valve shills, which is a much better reason, fuck valve, off of one corporate cock and onto the next.
