Considering this is the HD collection you'd have to recompile it back into PC-compatible code for it to run. If you're talking about the already existing PC version there's a wiki page with some stuff needed for it to run on modern windows

Why did it have to be the shittiest possible version of the game. Wish we got the OG PS2 version so we could see all the cool cut content. Oh well very mildly neat to have out there I guess...
>>

This could also contain the PS2 version besides the HD version since there are several files in the archive with the 'ps2' prefix.

It's like 3 times removed from the original(OG, Substance, HD Collection, Vita version) it very likely only has exactly what it needs to be ported in there.
>>
>>738000682
because even konami probably doesn't have the source code for the original version, most game companies lose them
and even if it did then it would be unlikely to get leaked since the likelihood of someone finding the source code on a server of someone like bluepoint and getting access to it is much higher than of someone hacking into konami

The files are dated all the way back to 2007 so there's no way Bluepoint was involved with this.
>But that game already has multiple PC version including a recent one, it's not really useful.
This could be used to make a port of MGS2 to PC that isn't shit like the Substance port and this can be used for modding since it contains the full engine binary along with the source code of the tools that were used to develop the HD Collection.
>>
>>738001079
why bother making the shitty pc port into a less shitty pc port when the ps2 version is just better and can be emulated for like the last 15 years

It list the vita, how can it not be HD? Unless it's another studio works which then was used by HD for their port.
And then the most recent port was a modified version of HD with some fixes and modification to make it look closer to the original
>>
>>738000946
>requires admin for setup
Does it actually have all the assets too?
>>
>>738001319
it's 150 mb file, it can't have all assets
the game on ps2 is like 5 gigs
>>
>>738001319
I tried to run it but I get a 'not installed properly' error. Considering the entire archive is also ~700MB when uncompressed there's no way it can have all of the assets. MGS2 Substance on PC was ~7GB when fully installed. This whole archive seems to only contain the engine and tool binaries.
>>
>>738001319
There's less than a gig of files in here. The original game is like 2gb and the Subsitance version was like 6gb. The HD version which this apparently is is even bigger. Going off of that I'm guessing there's no assets.

There's literally no assets included and this is source code specifically for the Vita version. This might be one of the most worthless and lame releases in a while.

Pack it up, there's nothing for us here, this is only for the nerdiest of nerds who maybe someday will use it to port the absolute worst version of the game to a homebrewed console or something and even then with how good reverse engineering tools are and stuff like recomps most likely people will just be porting the PS2 original soon enough anyway. No? What are you gonna do with it? The game is already available on all platforms and this is code for the vita version which if you weren't aware is complete garbage. It would be more effort than its worth to make it not ass and then also port it to another platform which today is entirely unnecessary. Nobody is going to do any of that. This also won't help anyone reverse engineer or do anything with the original game either. It is worthless, period.

*source code for specifically the Vita version. And again, reverse engineering tools today are great and tools for making PS2 recomp ports exist now, it would be easier and better to just port the PS2 version. I reiterate this release is completely worthless and I will die on this hill.

It's just HD Collection assets. You can convert them into formats for PS3 and Vita and maybe 360
>>
>>738005921
There's probably still some missing spots btw, looking at the code there's also some PAL defines that can change timings of things.
I've been working on similar mod for RE4 UHD to try getting it running at 120hz properly, the QLOC team that made UHD version added a lot of similar code for retiming 30hz things for 60hz, which makes 120Hz timing easier, but they also missed a shit ton of spots too.
At 60hz stuff running at 30hz timing isn't too obvious, but at 120hz they're now 4x speed, even worse at higher framerates..
It's pretty awkward adding patches/hooks to the EXE to fix those, really hoping the full ragnar leak might show up some day with RE4 (or at least bio4.exe/bio4.pdb files...)
At least for MGS2 someone dedicated could make a proper fix now though.

I have always seen all the doom maps and mario 64 rom hacks and wished I had something like that for MGS
The vr missions format shows just how good metal gears gameplay is. That you can just drop the protag in a map of raw geometry and its fun.
I have started researching reverse engineering because I figured it wasnt going to happen unless managed to do it myself.
I just hope with code releasing it can help pave the way for that future.

>>
>>738015089
yeah, exactly. people act like it's just some arbitrary cinematic choice when it's literally baked into how every encounter is framed. guards patrol based on what the camera shows you, rooms are constructed around blind spots you’re *supposed* to have.

you slap a free cam on it and suddenly half the tension evaporates because you can just peek around every corner like it's splinter cell. mgs2 isn’t a cover shooter, it's a voyeur simulator. you’re not meant to have perfect information.

that’s why substance works and the weird camera hacks feel like you’re breaking the toy and then complaining it’s not fun anymore. the fixed angles are the point.

get DS4Windows and configure it to emulate an xbox 360 controller. yes it works with a dualsense even though it's called DS4Windows.

damn, still no response from game with it :(
maybe their win32 code isn't actually setup to let inputs work
>>
>>738031345
could be.
did you try mashing the keyboard to see if there were any obtusely bound debug controls?
are there any xinput dlls in the game's directory?
do you have a dualshock 3?
that's all my ideas.
>>
>>738030897
bet you could just replace the input code with something else more modern pretty easily unless its spaghetti code junction.

that's for the old PC port not bluepoint's. no bearing on this.

what's wrong with pc/substance/master collection versions compared to original ps2 mgs2 sons of liberty
>>
>>738031932
A kinda crummy one that needs fan fixing for most of the effects still, and since that port is based off of most of this code, that means the fixes have to be applied here too. But, that can be done at the executable code level now, instead of having to patch it externally.

ah dug up a xbox elite controller and it seems to work

most of the graphical effects got fucked up by resolution changes, higher framerates making them play back wrong, or just plain fucked up on transparencies and visuals. lots of obnoxious little oversights like textures not being quite right, it took them til earlier this year to finally fix parts of the game's opening with fucked up skyboxes, the little shaver gimmick secret for snake's beard never worked in any version past PS2, etc. it's perfectly PLAYABLE but so many things got fucked up it's hilarious how little care was given, and they're still fucked up to this day.
>>

is mgs3 master collection good or does it also have missing stuff compared to ps2
I will probably just emulate since I think mc runs only at 720p so fuck them, but I'm curious if other than that it's ok

They did fix a bunch of stuff somewhat recently and I think the resolution was one of the things but I don't remember went untouched. They also added HD textures but lol
>>
>>738032303
emulating HD is unironically a little more stable without modding the PC MC version. for whatever reason, the PC ports of 2 and 3 got their audio compressed and fucked up royally. mgs3 hd/mc did lose the guy savage minigame, snake vs. monkey, secret theater, basically all the bonus content outside of the main game and the MG1/2 ports. mgs3 has similar effect issues here and there but you won't notice them anywhere near as much since the game doesn't try to do a technical showcase in the same way 2 starts with.

ah it was iro_glass_black_mh_mt_stage_r_plt0_r.cmdl
probably helps if I actually copy it over from mgs2mc first, now it gives me a different error about version number being different, game expects version 2 but MC files are version 1, weird
>>738032295
some of them do have it, had to fix the shader fx files and the bp_assets.txt files, binary files might have same issue
hoping we can just reuse most of mgs2mc, but might need to figure out how to port this to x64 for that :/
>>
>>738032695
also tried skipping the version check and no luck, guessing MC files might just use different cmdl format

Maybe armature changed some shit in the vita version and bumped up the version?

if its just that file maybe you could redirect it to load a different existing one which actually loads.
otherwise I guess go asset hunting.

possible, looking at their model cooker tool it seems they actually forced it to output "windows style" models on every platform, maybe if I get hold of vita assets they could load in

You need to first install the firmware to decrypt files.
It's literally the first thing Vita3K asks you to do, otherwise it won't do shit.

i think a lot of people here don't understand the endgame of getting source code.
this video is ROBLOX running mario 64's entire movement scheme and using its assets, loads in about 2 seconds on any platform including phones from 8 years ago, and is online multiplayer.
>>
>>738030813
Supposedly they censored some stuff because of 9/11.
>>
>>738034148
We might not be able to use it legally for projects but I always have been curious about the intricacies of what makes Metal Gear Solid play so relatively fluid since MGS2. Yeah the actions and movements are pretty stilted til V, but like, if we got an understanding of how 4 worked so more people could build upon that? I'd be in heaven.
>>

luckily vita is little endian same as PC, but now I get another crash in that cutscene
vita added new render commands or some shit which aren't included in win32 build, guess the vita data probably uses those commands
best bet is probably figuring how to cook the GameData.tar.xz files for windows instead of using files from other releases, can't really look into it more tonight though

a group of people decompiled the source code of Jak & Daxter and because of that being open source, mario 64 being open source, and half-life being open source means they can all be ported together in some weird zombie soup.

Mario 64 isn't open source, the decompilation is. You can't play it without copyrighted content, which the user has to provide it.

>>738034995
It's not that I care or not, it's that, if the developers upload the full contents of the ROM together with the decompilation, Nintendo will shut them down. Since the decompilation is completely original work and legal, then they have no right to take it down. This applies to every decomp or recomp around.
