Jrpg challenge that’s somewhat timeless is to give every party member the heal ability. And, to have the boss do an attack every turn that does enough damage where it requires exactly one heal spell if you don’t want that guy to get KOd. And, to have the steal ability too, and another type of buff preferably (in this case it’s cure poison, because the boss also poisons), so this guarantees a couple turns where your alternate party member 2 isn’t attacking. And, your third party member is the dps guy. So this is essentially the trifecta, a tank/support, a healer, and a dps. And, also is to have limited mana pool. So you have to alternate roles when the healer runs out of MP, or you can use a recovery item. Many jrpgs do this exact thing, or a variation of it, in the early/mid game. It falls off end game usually because higher level heal spells aren’t available to every party member. It’s like a puzzle basically to develop the strategy. We can probably just like, write out all the different ways this genre has done challenging tactics puzzles. This was the first boss in lost odyssey, I’ll write another one I guess, for a challenging puzzle fight in x2. Maybe one of you have experienced a challenge in JRPG, and can write it out.
