All they gotta do is have the awareness to mark and focus you now your carry potential is hindered and you have to win consecutive 2v5s while your teammates trickle in, while you are the cc nuke target, getting solo LB'd etc. Some times you take a loss, or even 2, in a row even if the player pool is small and they throw the exact same teams for a rematch. Ive had rematch queues 3x in a row at night before loggin out in frustration. It happens.

I think the extra step that is getting added to the balancing is that we need to connect the shards to their opposite and affinity shards to balance them, as opposed to just stopping their floods. Like 1 and 13 are doing. We're basically gonna need to create the element chart in real life to stabilize the last seven world shards, with the source in the center and the other shards kinda pushing and pulling against each other enough to counteract its existential gravity. Which personally I do think is enjoyable enough. The personal drama of the villains we have to overcome/redeem will probably be where the interest comes in. Well, that and the whole auricite plotline that's been hulking in the background this whole time. The key looks very white auricite-y. Even though its useful, auricite generally seems very bad news, given Athena and Ultima. It has origins that are still pretty mysterious and that we haven't really dealt with, yet.

With regards to Winterer motive, that's where things will get the most interesting. To prevent The Solstice (Rejoining au Naturale) the shards have to be fused back into The Source. If they aren't, The Source sucks them in anyway, and the resultant devastation kills everyone and everything. So unlike before, where the Ascian Rejoinings were going to leave most of The Source inhabitants intact, there is no safety net. Everyone dies. Given that The Source inhabitants have spaceships and the moon vessel, that still leaves a small contingency plan for mankind. The Shards, on the other hand, probably don't have space travel. I haven't kept up with any side content, as out of love with XIV as I have become, but I don't think I've seen anyone mention meeting Shard denizens in outer space as of yet, so there's this big question of whether or not The Shard folk can even get off planet with traditional means. (Ultima Thule and The Ragnarok sure made a mess of things for us, narratively speaking). As for Halmarut vs. traditional Ascians, the entire point of what we've been shown from her is that, "She's not like the other girls(Ascians)." She doesn't like the Convocation robes, and unlike Emet-selch, her garb is entirely personal rather than associated with an Ascian slave race (Garleans). We actually know very little about her yet, so the slate is still mostly blank. She made no mention of wanting Amaurot back, or that The Solstice should be prevented for the sake of The Ascians. She chose the word, "mankind." She did not distinguish between Sundered and Unsundered.

I've wrestled with this question a lot since I started playing two years ago, but I do ultimately agree. My reasoning would be that: FFXIV is a game that's supposed to pride itself on its story, and so if they're faced with a desicion, one option of which involves compromising on story elements, then the decision makes itself.It's the same reason why I'm frustrated that trial series and job quests aren't coming back. Side stories are one of the areas that should see the most love, not have it taken away.

This might be where my take starts to get hot, but like I honestly am not sure the ARR alliance raids made much of an impact on my going through the ShB story.I started the game during late ShB era, did those alliance raids because the game told me too, and by the time I got MSQ up to there I had zero recollection of anything from that content besides the boss fights I’d been doing every day in roulette. Spent all of the big reveal being like “who’s this guy? Am I supposed to know him?”This is the effect of retroactively making things mandatory at least on my experience. It kind of doesn’t matter and I still loved the ever loving fuck out of ShB story and would love to see mainline MSQ shake off its coils and go back to some themes and characters from the side content.If you let us know ahead of time like they usually seem to do (comments like “be sure to check out this optional raid before the next expansion” like they did I believe for EW) that’s more than enough. Those of us that care can go do/redo that content to get either caught up to speed or brush up on the specifics. Everyone else is mostly skipping cutscenes to get to the boss fights faster. I just don’t see who loses from this setup
