>Please explain the rationale behind the forecast of 16.5 million units for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sales for the current fiscal year (ending March 2027). Additionally, please describe your expectations for the medium- to long-term adoption of the Nintendo Switch 2.

When the Nintendo Switch 2 launched last June, we worked to expand our production capacity so that as many people as possible could get their hands on it. Furthermore, thanks to the interest generated by pre-launch hands-on events held around the world, sales in the first year significantly exceeded our expectations. As a result, sales volume through the end of the previous fiscal year (ended March 2026) reached 19.86 million units, exceeding both our initial forecast of 15 million units and the revised forecast of 19 million units announced during our second-quarter earnings report.
We view this first-year sales figure of 19.86 million units as an exceptional level even when compared to hardware we have released in the past. We believe this significant result stems from a combination of various factors, including the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 while many customers were still enjoying the Nintendo Switch, and the fact that Nintendo Switch software remains playable, making it easy for users to transition from the Nintendo Switch.
>>
>>738748203
>Part 2 of the answer
At the time of our third-quarter earnings announcement, we explained that while the domestic holiday season was strong, overseas sales—particularly in Europe and the Americas—were slightly weaker than anticipated. However, following the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in January and the free update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, usage of both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 increased. Furthermore, the Nintendo Switch 2 title Pokemon Pokopia, released in March, saw sales growth not only in Japan but also overseas, contributing to hardware sales. Given these circumstances, we believe the Nintendo Switch 2 is in a strong position to enter its second year.
For the current fiscal year, taking into account the current sales momentum and the sales levels of our previous dedicated game consoles in their second year, we have set our initial sales forecast at 16.5 million units. As explained in our financial results presentation materials, the adoption rate of the Nintendo Switch 2 remains high compared to that of the Nintendo Switch, and we currently have no particular concerns regarding this momentum.
Since Pokemon Pokopia also contributed to hardware sales, we have reaffirmed that having software that makes customers want to play is a key factor in driving the transition to the Nintendo Switch 2. We continue to prepare numerous new titles for the Nintendo Switch 2, and we will carefully communicate the appeal of each one so that customers can transition to the Nintendo Switch 2 at their own pace. Through this approach, we will strive to increase the Nintendo Switch 2 installed base over the medium to long term and work to boost software sales and the number of annual active users.

>We understand that the company has factored in a total of approximately 100 billion yen into its earnings forecast for the current fiscal year to account for the impact on costs resulting from soaring prices of components—particularly memory—and tariff measures. Is it correct to understand that the impact of the tariff measures is reflected as an absolute amount, rather than as the difference from the previous fiscal year? Additionally, how was the projected increase in memory prices factored into the forecast?

As you are aware, the figures for tariffs reflect absolute amounts rather than the difference from the impact in the previous period.
As we have explained previously, the rise in component prices—such as memory—did not have a significant impact on hardware profitability in the previous period. However, we expect these price increases to continue, and we believe they will gradually begin to put pressure on hardware profitability starting from this period. Although we have not provided a detailed calculation of the impact, based on current sales plans and procurement conditions, we have estimated the impact of rising component prices—primarily for memory—and, combined with the tariff measures, expect the impact on costs to be approximately 100 billion yen.
>>
>Could you explain the reasoning behind the decision to adjust the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware one year after its launch? Also, why do the price adjustments differ between Japan, the U.S., and Europe?

This price adjustment for the hardware is not due to any specific factor; rather, it was decided based on our assessment that recent changes in various market conditions will have a medium- to long-term impact on the global viability of our dedicated game console business.
Regarding the Nintendo Switch 2, our fundamental approach to the dedicated game console business—first promoting hardware adoption and then selling software—remains unchanged. If the cost increases were temporary and expected to subside relatively quickly, we could have chosen to focus on corporate efforts such as improving production efficiency, aiming to expand the installed base while maintaining hardware prices.
However, given that recent market conditions—including soaring component prices (particularly for memory), exchange rate fluctuations, and oil price trends—are expected to persist over the medium to long term, we concluded that maintaining our current pricing would significantly worsen the profitability of our hardware, which could ultimately impact our business operations over the medium to long term. To ensure the sustainable growth of our dedicated game console business, it is necessary to maintain a sound profit structure for the business as a whole. Therefore, although it was a difficult decision, we have decided to pass on a portion of the costs to the retail price.
The extent of the price changes varies by region because the degree of impact from the various market environment changes underlying this adjustment differs from region to region.
>>
>Given the significant rise in prices, what impact do you anticipate the price adjustment for the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware will have on sales momentum? Additionally, if component prices continue to rise, is there a possibility of further price adjustments?

While we have not specifically discussed the impact this price change will have on Nintendo Switch 2 sales, we recognize that it will raise the bar to some extent for those considering a purchase.
However, the most important factor in the dedicated gaming console business is providing engaging gameplay that offers value beyond the price tag. We plan to continue releasing a variety of titles from both our company and software developers, and we aim to expand the user base by showcasing these titles alongside new experiences unique to the Nintendo Switch 2.
While it remains unclear how component prices will evolve in the future, we recognize that we may be affected not only this year but also next year. Looking beyond that, we intend to prepare ourselves so that we can respond flexibly to whatever situation may arise.
>>
>In the history of the dedicated gaming console business, there has been a tendency for adoption to expand when companies release a concentrated lineup of their own major titles at the launch of a new hardware platform. Do you intend to accelerate the adoption of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the same way, using such titles? Given that many customers are still actively playing on the Nintendo Switch, will you release major titles on a different timeline than in the past?

In the medium to long term, we believe it is essential to continuously release compelling titles in order to encourage customers to choose our hardware. In fact, looking back at the history of our dedicated game console business, hardware sales have consistently surged upon the release of major titles expected to drive hardware sales. We expect this trend to continue in the future.
Most recently, the release of Pokemon Pokopia in March boosted Nintendo Switch 2 hardware sales, allowing us to enter the current fiscal period under favorable conditions. Additionally, the Nintendo Switch software title Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, released early in the current fiscal period, has been enjoyed by many people worldwide, and approximately 40% of customers playing this title own a Nintendo Switch 2. We believe the release of these new titles is contributing to increased activity on both hardware platforms.
While our earnings forecast for the current fiscal year incorporates the impact of changes in the market environment, we are entering this period with strong current sales momentum. We will continue to strive to maintain this sales momentum through the release of various titles.
>>
>With the 30th anniversary of the release of Pokémon Red and Green, sales of Pokémon-related titles have been strong. Could you tell us about the current status of this IP globally and its future plans? During last year’s holiday season, sales of hardware bundled with Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A for Nintendo Switch 2 Edition increased, and we also view sales of Pokemon Pokopia, released in March, as strong. We believe this momentum will carry over to the upcoming title Pokémon Winds & Waves, scheduled for release in 2027.

Regarding “Pokémon” titles, “Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen,” released in February as a download-only title, has sold over 4 million copies worldwide in the six weeks since its launch. Additionally, “Pokemon Pokopia” released in March, has sold over 4 million copies worldwide in the five weeks since its launch.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Pokémon Red and Green. We recognize that Pokémon is not limited to video games but is gaining popularity worldwide across various domains, including card games and mobile apps, and that the IP is in a very strong position globally.
We are grateful that Pokemon Pokopia was released as a Nintendo Switch 2 title to coincide with this 30th anniversary and is driving hardware sales, and we intend to continue selling it for a long time as a new staple title for the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, with the planned release of Pokémon Winds & Waves in 2027, we intend to continue collaborating with The Pokémon Company to encourage customers who play Pokémon-related titles to transition to the Nintendo Switch 2.
>>

>>
>Could you explain the approach to medium- to long-term software development? Given the lengthening development cycles, isn’t it becoming difficult to release major titles for the Nintendo Switch 2 at the same pace as before?

While our ideal is to deliver a large number of new titles in a timely manner, as you pointed out, software development cycles have become longer compared to the past. Even so, we will continue to refine our development structure and processes and pursue various initiatives to ensure that players can enjoy a wide variety of titles on the Nintendo Switch 2.
Moving forward, we are preparing a variety of new titles for the Nintendo Switch 2, regardless of whether they are so-called “blockbuster” titles. Additionally, regarding the lineup for the latter half of this fiscal year, we have new titles in the works in addition to those already announced, and we will share details at the appropriate time.
>>
>Regarding Mario Kart World, sales appear to have slowed somewhat since the bundled version went out of stock last December. How do you analyze the reasons for this? Also, could you explain the rationale behind the forecast of 60 million units for Nintendo Switch 2 software for the current fiscal year?

While we will refrain from providing detailed sales figures for individual titles, Mario Kart World is a key title that we intend to continue selling throughout the Nintendo Switch 2’s lifecycle. We plan to continue communicating its appeal to customers and hope that many will pick it up as a staple title.
Regarding software, we believe it is important to consider not only Nintendo Switch 2 software sales but also how to develop the overall software business encompassing both the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
While the actual software sales figures for the previous fiscal year included units sold bundled with hardware and other products, the projected sales figures for the current fiscal year do not include such bundled units. Based on this premise, when looking at the combined figures for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, we have set the projected software sales for the current fiscal year to a level close to the previous fiscal year’s actual results, excluding bundled units.
>>
>>738748743
This is such a fucking non answer lmao. I don’t think it’s controversial to say MKW is carried entirely by the $500 bundle, no one’s dropping $80 on any video game, not even Mario.

It's laying out what their internal analysts are saying to the HNIC of whatever investment group that is, and asking for corroboration of its accuracy since they have no expertise. Nintendo's a jewel of domestic investment, they have a lot of the country's money via disinterested parties like retirement funds.
>>
>>738748684
Seems like confirmation they plan to fill the schedule with more mid budget and niche games to make up for longer time between tentpoles. Sounds great to me. Glad they’re not trying to fill those gaps with live service updates
>>

>Additionally, regarding the lineup for the latter half of this fiscal year, we have new titles in the works in addition to those already announced, and we will share details at the appropriate time.
Very nice, but I wonder why they've been so secretive through 2026 so far.
>>
>>738750947
They’d already announced the games for the first half of the year already. They seem to have through august covered. They likely just wanted to focus on marketing individual titles, especially since sales have been good. They can wait and have a bigger impact with a more packed direct the closer they get to an empty slate

I think since the PS2 Nintendo has been in a perpetual state of butthurt. After PS2's blue ocean strategy and abandoning a chunk of its franchises to appeal to casuals Nintendo tried doing the same with the Wii. Now Nintendo is trying to sell a box with no games just like the PS5. Hell a lot of their games are also Switch 1 releases. Theyve basically given up on original content and are basically hoping youll gobble up the 5th remake of Starfox with a smile. Its pretty pathetic that this is what Nintendo has become.

I'm so so so glad that he said this, because now all the fucking morons who were saying dumb shit like "Pokemon doesn't drive system sales!" can wake up from their delusion. Tons of people bought a Switch 2 to play Pokopia, and at least four times as many people will buy a Switch 2 for Wind/Waves.

youre making me tear up because this is bringing back memories of my own granddad who would always look around for the best pieces of wood possbile, even when he was retired he helped with the gardening for all the local men who were the same age or older but less mobile than him, and in exchange their wives would give him a cup of tea and the guys would let him choose the best wood from their shed or skip (it was more common for men to have planks and spare wood lying around leftover from diy in those days, at least around here it was)
he was so fucking good that he made furiture, huge fuck off pieces of furniture, for everyone on the street. he wouldnt except any money, only tea and occasionally a fancy bottle of wine or whisky. honestly he hated money and just did it for the love of the craft and love of community. he probably saved his entire street thousands of pounds over the course of his sixteen or so years retired

Nothing you say will change the fact that Sony's CEO called the PS5 a plastic box with no content.
>>
>>738748238
>so that customers can transition
Funny how he didn't use "move to", "switch to"(fun pun as well), or "invest to"
Instead he uses""transition". After Tomodachi Life non-binary disaster, I would've expected nintendo to fucking learn something but it seems that tranny messaging is their ideology now.
I have been considering buying Switch 2 for a while but fuck that. I'm not supporting this propaganda. Its roots are deep in japan, there is nothing to be done.
30+ years of nintendo loyalty, its time to MOVE ON to other platforms. I will never trust nintendo again. And neither should you.
>>
>>738756196
Did he actually say that? Word for word I mean? Because yesterday you tendies threw a shitfit when people were harping on the CEOsnoy calling the Switch's price raise a barrier, swearing up and down that's not what he said and if he did it's not what he meant.
So before I google it myself I figure I'd give you the benefit of the doubt and ask.
>>
>>738756812
>he's still crying about getting BTFO'd yesterday
lmao
>>
>>738756812
He did say that but the way it came out was odd and the context was about the budgets around spending on external studios to help with third party publishers or something. The question was pretty much what’s the point of the budget if PS is the king of third party already and he was reiterating that PS would be nothing without its content (software/games). Vastly misconstrued. But since tendies won’t hear that then I’ll just say Furukawa did say the Switch 2 was a barrier so yeah.

Nishino plans to bring back many of their old IPs and AA games. They also want new AA games along with courting indies to their platform. They want less live-service games and they want to move away from the hyper-realistic cinematic movie games.
Valve confirmed they're making multiple games Steam Hardware has lit a fire in their ass to follow what Nintendo does, make games built for the hardware, Deadlock and Half-Life 3 are just the beginning, also HL3 will shift Gordon's fight away from the Combine as the ones on Earth are the last ones as they were cut off from the rest at the end of HL2.

I find you retarded to be afraid of this. What's Sony or Valve going to do to Nintendo, you worm? Just shut up and enjoy gaming and stop picking between red company, blue company, and PC company like a shilling cheerleader. I swear I hate poor faggots.

I really hope the rumor of another, adventure-style Starfox game is true. The 64 remake seems like their attempt at "safely" weening a prospective new generation of fans onto the IP. That and the major cameo in the Mario movie lead me to believe they've got more in store already as opposed to merely "testing the waters" based on the performance of one standalone game.

The system's greatly lacking in "core audience" appeal right now. I find it kind of dire that the games forecast to have long legs are Mario Kart and Pokopia. MP4 really should've been the game to appeal to hobbyists and provided the sort of meat and density that's overall lacking from the exclusive offerings of the library, but, "oof."

Who's going to be able to afford an $800-$900 PS6, anon, those faggots are leaving and fucking off from gaming. Sony will get those types of players that do enjoy that with a handheld, of course though, it's getting split three ways between the Switch 2, Steam Deck 2, and PS6 handheld. Sony no longer has that full dominate space they once had. But I know one major reality, normalfag era of gaming is coming to an end and gaming will be ours again. Their AAA slop is not sustainable. Astro Bot is proof that those players still exist within PlayStation. For devs, it will be Team Asobi while XDevs will help get third parties working on Sony's IPs.

>>
>>738763896
Mario kart world has outsold half the franchise and it's not been out a full year. You don't know what a barrier is and the Capcom CEO said it about the PS5 because it was a "barrier for entry" in regards to Monster Hunter Wilds.
>>
>>738763261
Ideally there would be emphasis on adventure-STYLE and it'd be a different, earnest attempt at expounding on Starfox's gameplay formulas and universe. It'd also be redundant for it to be just like the previous Adventures game if the OoT remake is real. But they put out both Kirby Air Riders and Mario Kart, so who knows.

I remember a rumor that years ago, Retro supposedly pitched Nintendo an idea for not-Mass Effect set in the Starfox universe. This is fanon pipe dream territory but I think it'd be really cool if they revisited a concept like that.

The "dumb gimmick era" has all been leading towards the Switch that then became it's biggest success. Each console acting as a prototype for the one that followed.
This one was the prototype WiiU and its already easy to see how the tech later set it up to be the Switch.
Wits stuff like RingFit working off the switch and likely newer ones coming for this console, the Gimmicks aren't going to vanish.

The company that did that was Game Freak. They were afraid of the 3DS not having sold enough so they kept Gen 5 exclusive to DS with DSi features. Once again they were afraid the switch was going to be a massive flop so they didn't bother with development for Switch until later, which took them by surprise as the engine wasn't porting just as nicely (their engine sucks ass). For Winds and Waves they basically had to sanitize the engine to meet current hardwar requirements, this was on the leaked documents.

The gimmicks are what differentiated Nintendo from their competition and forced them to work hard in releasing a strong first-party selection, since third-parties couldn't be bothered to work around their gimmicks.
Now Nintendo has become lazy and complacent with the Switch's third-party success.
It was innovative to have a lot of these already popular games released onto a portable system, but now with the steam deck and other similar handhelds out, it's no longer impressive and now that the Switch 2's portability is even worse due to its reduced battery life, it's more comparable to the PS5 and PCs where its underpowered-nature becomes all the more noticeable.

No. Sony literally paid 3rd parties (by offering dirt cheap deals on distribution thanks to their other divisions) to abandon Nintendo. Thanks to their beef with Yamauchi they didn't look back.
Nintendo always differentiated themselves with 1st party games and that never changed.
>but now with the steam deck and other similar handhelds out, it's no longer impressive

>This is such a fucking non answer lmao. I don’t think it’s controversial to say MKW is carried entirely by the $500 bundle, no one’s dropping $80 on any video game, not even Mario.

It still sold almost 600k in one quarter post bundle thats like over 1/5th of system sales. I think its probably not much of an issue to the casuals who buy a couple games a year.

Whereas for people who buy a game every month $80 or $70 is an extra $120 per year. Which is probably where they're losing sales.

No, they were stupid and made for faggots and babies.
>and forced them to work hard in releasing a strong first-party selection
A lot Nintendo's games sucked back then, got ruined by gimmicks, and Nintendo made far less along with many of their franchises going dormant.
>Now Nintendo has become lazy and complacent with the Switch's third-party success.
So, they returned to their roots before the DS and Wii?
>It was innovative to have a lot of these already popular games released onto a portable system, but now with the steam deck and other similar handhelds out, it's no longer impressive and now that the Switch 2's portability is even worse due to its reduced battery life, it's more comparable to the PS5 and PCs where its underpowered-nature becomes all the more noticeable.
Switch 2 is still the only handheld with its features, Steam Deck and Steam Deck 2 are just portable PCs, PS6 handheld is just a portable PlayStation you take with you.

Nintendo made the best decision along with Sony and Valve because they fix the biggest problem of gaming today, poor console/PC optimization. Because the Switch 2 is weak, the PS6 handheld and Steam Deck 2 both will be stuck with just 16GB of LPDDR5X, it means gaming is returning to how it was from the 1st-8th generation when games weren't really trying to push it leading to a massive boom period for the indie and AA market.

Switch also outsold every single console Nintendo has ever made.
