>announces new gaming hardware before negotiating long-term production contracts.

bravo, steam
>>
it was never meant for mass adoption
>>
yes i'm sure you've read the contracts
>>
>>738870248
i hope you realize this is normal
no company ever has ever announced a product only after negotiating long-term production contracts
if anything, the production companies will never ever sign a long-term production contracts with anyone without first gauging public response, which can only happen after announcing.

picture this, valve signs a long-term producton contract with company X before announcing the product
then they announce it, and the reception is abysmal low and extremely negative
congratulation, now valve has to pay for all those long-term production units they know they won't sell, and that company X is now forced to waste time and production lines for a product which, given valve knows won't be able to sell, will try to get discounts or halt production of with some compensation that still won't cover 100% of the already produced units

learn some contract economics before making dumb threads, cause what you sugges is the type of shit any good company knows to avoid
>>
They should drop hardware entirely and focus on software again.

ignore this

dude is playing defense for something he has no idea what he's talking about
>>
>>738870248
Yep, and I've been saying this for a while. It's insane that this elite company, with employees who make seven figures, would announce hardware that they haven't built, haven't procured, and haven't priced.
>>
>>738874242
The pricing still not being set in stone is fucking wild to me.
>>
>>738874242
>hardware that they haven't built, haven't procured, and haven't priced.

I think the saying is “do nothing…win anyways” kek
>>
They just need to hurry the fuck up. Who cares if the price changes later? That happens with plenty of gaming devices these days. Buffer it with a Steam store credit promo if you're that worried about it increasing later.
>>
>>738870379
How could I read something that doesn't exist?
>>
>>738874849
Steam Machine was underpowered from the jump, which is worse than price hike. Even at the originally-intended price, it would need to play games with AMD's inferior upscaling.

Price revealed? I'm calling $799.99

>>738870341
This is the valve drone cope?
>>
>>738870248
The machines are already built retard.

Valve is not waiting to buy RAM. They are waiting for RAM prices to stabilize so they can set a fixed price for the machine.
>>
>>738870248
Oh no, it will cost $700 instead of $600, whatever will I do?

it's gonna sell out in minutes and you know it
>>
>>738878751
My savings hit $100k this year so I've unironically been looking at investing.
>>
>>738878751
I took $30k out of my fidelity 401k 6 years ago to manually invest, and it has grown significantly faster than the money I left in there.

Ive invested in BTC 10 years ago and I'm fucking rich lmao

go back

>it's gonna sell out in minutes
Because of scalpers buying in bulk
>>
>>738879668
>in bulk
1 per account per week, not counting the time spent in the reservation queue
it ain't getting scalped thanks to that reservation system, especially because it'll be paid
>>

Wow! You gottem!.

>inferior upscaling
LMAO. FSR4.1 is coming for 7000 and 6000 with INT8.
DLSS4 and 4.5 despite being superior on image stability, does not offers the FPS boost 3.0 has. And 3.0 is inferior to FSR4.1.
And it looks like DLSS hit it's cap. Because DLLS5 is pure AI slop.
>>
>>738880238
how so?
>>
>>738875917
>the budget machine is underpowered!
No shit retard. This is not made for your top 10% enthusiasts, it's made for normie-tier people. Most people use hardware that is 4-6 years old and buy hardware that is already at least a year old.
>>
Because RAM prices quadrupled all around the world you oblivious fucktard.
>>
>>738880335
See the gabencube situation ofc
>>
>>738877938
If they were already built they would sell them at a price, then raise the price if needed. You know, like every other hardware manufacturer does. Crazy, right?

Less than that. Autists calculated based on the shipping weight that it's about 20,000 units.
