The 3DS game is a cult classic and sold very well. Everyone has been excited for Living The Dream for an entire year, since it was announced.
Furthermore, similar to Pokopia, these kinds of games are highly popular with casual players, an expansive demographic on Nintendo systems.
Lastly, it's a Switch game, not a Switch 2 game, so on paper more people from that "blue ocean" demographic can buy and play it.

Nobody's saying that. Digimon and Pokemon compliment each other. The Digimon Story series offers a different take on monster-collecting JRPGs by fusing it with more SMT-style gameplay and mature themes. On top of that Digimon does things Pokemon has never done, via the World series which is predominantly composed of virtual pet raising games.

In any case, a World game is probably next up. Bamco has been expanding their Digimon studios since Time Stranger's success. The Next Order Switch/PC port in 2023 also performed decently well. World is handled by different studios to Story, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's a new game in development which could release 2027-2029.

Why is it not Digimon to you?

The first turn-based JRPG Digimon game was World 3 released in 2002. It's not a new thing.

The tone and plots of the Story games are also broadly in line with the classic Digimon games and especially the animes.

Digimon was never supposed to be some basic kids franchise. One of it's main selling points since the beginning was that it was deeper, edgier, and more plot-heavy than the Pokemon anime or games were.

I get your argument but a big problem with a lot of those is just how dependent Microsoft studios have been on contractors instead of dedicated devs that know the system in and out. Especially a live service project like Sea of Thieves or Forza which would need a whole new dedicated pipeline. Porting to PS5 is trivial since there's not many meaningful differences between an XSX and PS5. id Tech has always been Switch friendly so getting Indiana Jones onto Switch 2 was probably relatively streamlined.

It's a funny turn-around from them, considering I remember in 2012 them outright deconfirming the idea of a Skyrim port to Wii U. And this was before launch so it wasn't even cause of "bad console sales" or whatever, they just didn't want to do it for some reason.

The year after Banjo was added to Smash Ultimate and the whole "Nintendo x Microsoft" nonsense started being peddled, Phil Spencer was writing emails bragging about how he wanted to buy-out Nintendo and shut down their hardware division. I believe the exact quote was "Nintendo's future is outside of their own hardware". These emails were later leaked during the Activision buy-out hearings.

MS have never been a friend of Nintendo. I think they genuinely did look at the idea of buying them out around 2019/2020 (just like they allegedly did in the early 2000s, and the mid-2010s), but then they started spunking untold billions of Bethesda and Activision and the acquisition plans had to come to an end. But they absolutely wanted to do it.

It's for this reason we need to make sure Xbox absolutely dies and that Microsoft are completely extinguished from the gaming industry. They are predators who want to consume all of their competition using the brute force of money. They cannot be allowed to make a comeback.

Basically look at how they ruined Rare in the 2000s and 2010s by buying them up, fucking up the development of their scheduled games (Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Banjo), and then holding their IPs hostage for years and leaving their series to rot, then putting them to work in the live-service mines. Imagine that but 100x more worse and more damaging to the industry, cause it'd be happening to Nintendo rather than a relatively small Britbong studio.

The best-case scenario is one where the Helix flops hard and they are forced to withdraw from the console business. Then, Valve can expand SteamOS to desktops and being muscling them out of the PC space as well.

I'm surprised that Tomodachi is selling, but not because of Tomodachi as a franchise. The 3DS game sold 6M so clearly something went right there.
What I'm surprised about is that people are waking up (pun unintended) to games being woke the last few years, and as a result, they're (rightfully) not selling as much.
