It's releasing too soon for them to delay it and fix it but maybe that was the whole idea, they knew this entry was going to be very polarizing and they wanted to get it out of the way as soon as possible. I don't think they will use this aesthetic for the next game in the series because it did not land with the audience.

I predict the game will sell around 1 million copies but that is not the sales Nintendo is looking for. They keep remaking Star Fox 64 because 64 sold 4 million copies, and that lightning is not striking the same game twice. Everyone has played Star Fox 64 at this point, nobody was asking for another remake.
