Action roguelite with visual novel appeal. Fantastic VA and art. Cute writing. Great music, reminds me of Hitoshi Sakimoto from Vanillaware.
Action seems basic but decent. Standard controls but really well animated main character attack doll gimmick. There's a poker element I never got to. I quit once I realized it was good, wishlisted, will check out later on again.

All the demos I played, in order of most to least recommended.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5247680/Welandes_Demo/
Old English translation puzzle game. I liked the art style and humor. If someone gets the good end to the quest then let me know what happens, I fucked something up.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4918680/LEXICON_Lingua_Obscura/
Roguelite Scrabble. It has some sort of Inscryption-style spooky meta lore thing going on, which hopefully won't turn out to be an Inscryption-style bait-and-switch. The max word size is 8, which feels a bit restrictive since you get 16 letters to play with.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3967580/Hexograph/
Hex-based Picross. Later puzzles have multiple colors.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2153760/Stronghold_4/
It's Stronghold. Seems good, I haven't played since Crusader so I'm out of the loop on what they've been doing with the series. Apparently they really shit the bed with Stronghold 3.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4669160/The_Zibbo_Show_Demo/
Roguelite dice game. The actual gameplay is pretty good despite the zoomer mascot horror bullshit aesthetic.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/673100/Code_of_The_Savage/
Ultima-style top-down RPG. It's alright.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5207160/High_Roller_Penny_DEMO/
Balatro-ish pachinko. Nice tits but there's no interactivity so you just sit there hoping your board wins the game for you.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4791910/Alethra/
Balatro but it's yahtzee. Too easy to be interesting.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5366460/Dungeon_Sweeper_Plus_Demo/
10% Minesweeper and 90% casual incremental bullshit. Pass.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5192690/Subgloom/
Noita-style exploration platformer. It looks pretty, but I hate the traversal and the combat and those two things are basically the entire game.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3161310/Hela_of_Mice__Magic/
Looks cute but it has a EULA popup so I didn't play it.

Mostly reposting impressions because I'm lazy.

>EVIL MOON: Unspoken
Low-poly nuns with wide hips shoot demonized humans that were corrupted because the moon heard them speak. Really cool premise and presentation but kinda faked me out by being more first-person Metroidvania than boomer shooter (lock-on, infinite ammo w/ overheating, grappling hook upgrade). 8/10
>Mingle
cute game where you move a character around a scene to find their match and then change to find another until it's empty, surprising variety for the few levels. 6/10
>Appulse
Pinball on spaceships but you ball can get guns with recoil. Slick presentation, good controls, good feedback, and of course it's a fucking roguelite. Still, might be worth a try. 7/10
>Olympus Rangers
Pretty blatant Pokemon Stadium-like with a few new mechanics like positioning and assists from party members and small tweaks like that. Only tried because the dev made a great arcade-style shooter called Candy Rangers. The music is EXCELLENT. 7/10
>Generic Fighter Maybe
It's a very standard 2D fighting game with simple goofy characters and slick animation. Fun & simple without being casual. 8/10
>Elta: Defy All Gods
Decent TPS-camera melee combat game crossed with Metroid Prime. Neat painterly textures and cool alien/armor designs PLUS you get a little dragon buddy. Clearly an early build though, only demo that crashed on me. 7/10
>Louloudi Asteri
Nothing I could describe would work as well as seeing it in >>750197594 and it's a fucking mess.
>Ball Busters
Roguelite about doing juggle combos to a dummy. I've thought of a game with a similar premise but this is a bit too janky. Girls are hot and the music is great though so maybe. 6.5/10
>>
>>750200767
>Teaknights
Sin & Punishment but with that over-exaggerated Y2K style a lot of things are going for now. Nothing exceptional but I do appreciate the attempt and the main girl is very cute. 7.5/10
>Annalynn MD
Dr. Mario x Puyo Puyo in a beaker (aka a cylindrical playfield you can rotate). I could actually wrap my brain around this one and it's great. Super charming presentation as well. 8/10
>SLAM TANK
Insanely fun and goofy premise but commits hard to it and controls like a dream while running quite well even with tons of fast particle effects. The mixture of simple vehicle handling with melee combat makes it feel like basically nothing else. Shame I could sniff out the AI usage from the loading screen and the page confirmed it so I'm docking points and I hope they can replace it with proper assets. 8/10
>SPLATTER KING
Simple hand-drawn single-screen arcade game. You slash at enemies and dodge attacks so monsters don't scare/take your babes and you don't die. Very unforgiving, very Dragon's Lair. Charming but I don't see it having a lot of depth. 6.5/10
>Raging Blasters II
Pixel-perfect vertical shmup with simple, effective mechanics and nice music. Very PC Engine-coded. 8.5/10
>Alexus 2040
Galaga with a bunch of temporary power-ups, bosses, and unlockable ships. Actually really nice and understands it scope very well. 8/10
>Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee
I mean all they had to do was not fuck up an easy slam dunk and they didn't fuck it up based on what I played. Plus they knew to have based Gigan playable in the demo. All I needed to know.

Sometimes EULAs are actually non-invasive, which kinda confuses me as to why they even add those to begin with, but I went to check the mice game's EULA and saw the 3rd party account requirement and noped the fuck out without even clicking.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3642910/Wyldheart/

This game actually had a non-invasive EULA, I think. I didn't see any "Don't say the A word or B word or C word or we'll steal your money" clauses.

I like the forum, but it would be cool if it had a more engaging story to match.
Too easy to deck out the car.
Gor first place in all races but only a C-rank on drifting, with 50k in score, 20k above the second place. You could do better for sure but just let me play against some better AI please.

Shame the music is so uninteresting, but I don't hold that against the dev, obviously he can't afford big bands. But it's definitely one of those very few retro games that perfectly manages to replicate the look of the source material it's copying from. You could show anyone a screenshot of this and tell them it's some eurojak NFS clone, and they'd 100% believe you. Even more so if you set the graphics to "authentic".

TRIEDED

zombillionaire: takes too long to get to the fun stuff in seen in trailer, you basiclaly just hold m1 on zombies and either have the dps to kill them in time or do not, way too much of the skill tree is just + income for the skill tree. when im selling all my oil in like 10 seconds, why are there still like 10 more upgrades to selling faster?

guns of echachton: controls fine, neat world, good presentation, i just dont like the gimmick. its completely nonsensical with absolutely no attempt made as to why shooting a guy in his RIGHT FOOD LEFT ARM HEAD would kill him faster than any other order. also really poorly balanced. any enemies you can see are trivial to parry so i was only ever threatened by being shot off-screen, something that has seemingly nothing to counteract at all. there's no hint WHERE you are being shot from

deus exia: neat, but also let down by balance. you can just spam jump slashes to stunlock everything.

fater son holy guns: bad. absurdly low damage, absurdly tanky enemies

not going well so fart

>>
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4809830/Kopernicus_Incremental_Suffering_Demo/
Kopernicus might as well be the best game of this fest. It's a proper twin stick shooter, not a vampire survivors clone. Gets hard carried by the art and the artstyle (guy who made it won multiple awards before and released few games already) very reminiscent of webcomic scene from 20 years ago. You shoot fetuses, vaginas, anuses, big heads which explode into homing maggots, you can stomp dead children into resources. Which fits thematically as the plot is about a father and his child.
Game unfolds at some point and instead of a twin-stick shooter you get additional incremental mining game. And if that was not enough unlocking memories is done through old russian egg catching minigame.
Every fucking screen has some clickable element which often results in an easter egg, most of them might not make any sense if you never went to Kraków city, often it's some half-screen-sized animated pixelart.
>>
>>750203135
true, and since they mostly seem to take trance artists they have thousands of talents who would jump at being featured in such a otherwise nice production.
at least it's the easiest element to replace for players

Spellcrafting but everything around it is lackluster. As someone with 600+ hours in Noita it should be up my alley but the start is just so dull.
Some enemies have interesting projectiles but it's just not enough. They all feel the same and move in similar manners. Spell combination order doesn't seem to do much. It takes too long to find alternative spell modifiers. Will keep track of this but eeh.

Way too easy, feels like a musou where you only face a handful of enemies at once. Environments and characters look decent. Writing is pretty stiff and generic, but I liked how grounded the plot started as. I played on Hard, the second easiest out of for difficulties. Would try again on the hardest option but there is just too much dialogue to run through before you get to a fight and I have other demos to play. A disappointment so far. Removed from wishlist, sadly.

I think the algorithm actually prioritizes games in the lineup according to your preferences, because I got hit with a bunch of sailing games after getting a craving for them outside of the fest. I also keep getting hit with low engagement literalwhoware both in my calendar and in the nextfest, most likely because I actually play tons of underappreciated games, so the algo might've tried to pick up on that. With how often Nightmere got mentioned in previous threads, I was expecting something at least decent but it was kind of mediocre. Felt like I was reading a teenager's mystery novel draft. A lot of little naive things just bug at me like how they apparently sent 4 investigators to look at what is supposed to be a minor case of someone getting locked in a room, the lifeguard that called them in being absent in the first place and not present for questioning, them going "Oh no! The pool's about to close!" like they're school children on a field trip that have to follow the rules, getting into a really pointless argument about inspecting the crime scene alone, and the extremely weak and speculative arguments that all of the MC's colleagues put up which is common in these games but makes you wonder why they're even there because they're nothing but deadweight.
>>
Well, played Emberville and my final conclusion is... boring. Just boring. Didn't really feel anything. The pacing needs some real work and frankly so does the combat. I was under the impression building up the town was going to be a big part of the game, they really should have shown that off. As is it was just a below average action game.

Me again, shit's pretty fun and I got almost an hour of play out of the demo. It obviously hinges entirely on if you like staring at an anime girl to a wacky electro soundtrack. Basically you pick from a russian roulette of 3 drinks of varying strengths, and you have to stay below your drunk limit while getting her to crack hers. You can level up your stats between rounds, and you get a variety of ability cards to tip the odds in your favor, like revealing a shot glass' strength, reducing your drunk meter etc.

This Slop Fest and the AI hate got me thinking… Hear me out!

Not long from now, we're going to look back at all this AI slop with something akin to nostalgia, and dare I say it, some of it at times we'll even call soulful—while it was still uncanny in a good way. The pointlessness is the point; it's what reconnects the schmilblick to human creativity—and the absurdity of it to an art style. This is the last era of handcrafted computer art. Maybe the last era of human-conceived art, full stop. And we're all complaining because it reflects how degenerate we've become as a society.

AI-assisted and generative tools have been baked into game dev softwares and used for more than a decade, you just haven't bothered noticing it, or complaining about it at the time—because it was less pervasive, and the outrage only feels justified now. Because you are rightfully afraid, and a bit slow. IMO, AI aiding (((gifted))) devs and idea guys from their bedrooms in creating new enticing stuff is somehow more reasonable than allowing the same overused Unreal Engine assets to be flipped again and again… There's always been a ton of shit shoved down our throats and only a handful of actual gems anyway…

GoyApprovedSimulation™ is coming soon to your monitored cloud computing environment, so let's all enjoy this delicious slop while it lasts, before the production loops run themselves and we find ourselves completely defeated by our shrimp overlords…

>Dark Side Void
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4770970/Dark_Side_Void/
Holy fuck bros I'm beaming
What an excellent experience. 2D action doesn't get much better than this. Truly feels like a step-up from Galak-Z or Luftrausers (and its many clones). I wouldn't compare it to Leynos, Brigador, Bladr Sky or Gigantic Army since it's all in zero-g. Super responsive + loads of options. You really feel like can depend on your radar for obstacles and enemies. Blasting through asteroid fields at top speed is a breeze. Sniping enemies outside of their detection range even when traveling just works. In many other games the radar is too minimal or not granular enough. Galak-Z for example, it's hard to use it since entities are large and hard to judge relative positions from. Then take something like Ace Combat. You spend half the time or more looking at the radar, judging intercept paths etc. If it's done well it can change how you play.
But you don't have to, going into closer range is very enjoyable. Your boost jets, shield and melee makes encounters with other assault crafts a dance, much like in Galak-Z. Each enemy type have distinct behaviors. Drones will hide behind asteroids, swarm you in clouds and try to catch you from behind. Mechs will boost in while firing bursts, swipe at you with progressive cutters, then boost away with shields active and leave a few missiles for you to chew on.
Damage is clearly visible on ships. Each swipe of heavier melee weapons will tear parts off larger entities. Sound design is stellar, especially in the hangar.
Cool loadout options, but I would like to see more. Ship design and illustration is top-notch.
I played with the steam controller, grip buttons are great for letting you keep your thumbs on the sticks. Analogue control for weaving through asteroids and slow approaches to pickups felt great.
Wishlisted, this just edged out Where is my sword as the best demo so far. I don't know what those earlier anons were smoking.

Finally buck broke this game with a high early game roll of compounding artifact + module on the reproducer for mass human breeding into the special module that gives you common resources for sacrificing them in the bio generator into an artifact that gives you random uncommon resources for sacrificing in the biogen, from then on it was *mostly* easy

Traditional Roguelike with a PoE map portal and a base you can build up and hire people to do random shit. Probably the best thing I've played during the fest and if you have any inclination for this type of game it's an easy recommend. Has pronouns in the character creator so skip if that's a big deal for you.

Really cool "life sim" type game about living 7 days as a deadbeat band member. At least click the link before you decide to skip this because there's a lot going on in this game and it isn't the typical "Card Shop Simulator" shit that's all over steam.

Okay fellas, I got a few games I can recommend to ya.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4772200/Type_Me_Home/

A platformer where you type commands in a prompt to control the lizard. Interested in how much more the game might evolve as well as its speedrunning potential.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/952100/Bad_Pixels/

A super low-poly FPS game, early access. Most of the missions that I've seen are just kill all the bad guys. I like the aesthetic but have concerns about how much more the gameplay will develop.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4303790/Acrolyte_Demo/

A Metroid-inspired adventure game with a real polished presentation. The twinstick controls in this one are a little tricky since aiming is by reticle and you're encouraged to play with a mouse and keyboard rather than a controller.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4982870/Lightspeed_Lina/

Currently in its playtest phase, obviously inspired by 3D Sonic games. It's strange because the worlds sprawl out but there isn't much to explore, a lot of pointless space and dead ends. It controls well enough, but wall riding feels a little tricky.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5140480/Night_Hazard_Demo/

Inspired by the 3D Castlevania games like Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness. Combat's pretty brain dead but it could improve as it goes on. I think the lock-on targeting is great for movement and has potential for finding secrets if you have to be in the right spot to get to certain enemies.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4116510/Tabula_Demo/

A top-down puzzle game about putting the pieces together in the right way so you can collect all the flags in one go and reach the exit. Harder than it looks, I'm stumped on 2-5.
>>
>>750216385
the card battler mechanic is the massive downside of the game, even worse than the chara design or memey voice actors

The only command that regularly fucked me up was "jump" since it's the only one you do with one hand. But I'll agree with you that I got majorly tilted at High and Low. However, you should also know that "stop" is a command you can use, too. That was the turning point in which I started to dominate. Got all five oranges. My fingers are crossed that there's some easter eggs with like secret commands and so on.

>>750236860
The fact that a filter wasn't added made me so pissed. There's indie devs who busted their ass on their games and I can't even give them a chance because they're drowning under this shit storm. I only found Type Me Home through my timeline on X, otherwise I never would have found it.

I'll ask if anyone has any good recs for a guy that likes games from the action, platformer, arcade, shmup, and "metroidvania" genres.

I just played Magnavale: Eternal Soul, a game so clearly based on Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow it's not even funny.

Exploration is tedious with one-way junctions and I found nothing of value. The best equipment I got was from enemy drops, and that's likely because I was playing hard mode. Combat is a joke with many enemies and even bosses not at all able to handle footsies with short hop light attacks. The guardian battles with the intent stat is fucking DUMB. Like, really, really dumb. If a player was struggling to survive and was clutching it out, why even give the slightest chance to fuck them over? It's one of the most baffling design decisions I've ever seen in a "metroidvania". Just awful. The art direction in general is bland, from the palette choices to the biomes. I doubt any substantial changes will be made, either, since my complaints are right at the core of the game's design.

The chance of actually finding anything good is next to fucking none. And that's gonna be the future of all steam if this AI slop doesn't stop.

Played more Zodiac Legion, shit's cool. I think they added more tooltips in an update, so I've been able to figure out more of the math behind the mechanics.
Slashing attacks are best when an opponent has particularly vulnerable areas (they get to shift one hit location for free without needing any margin of success on the attack) while versus someone with all-around good armor coverage thrusts and blunt are better.

You know what's crazy to me? These are people, who largely will drop a game for containing a pride flag, or a fag protagonist on principle. But are now standing here, and telling me: "Yeah, 8000 AI slop games being shit out onto next fest is good actually, and YOU are the fag for not liking it".

If they can make AI spritework look this nice, I don't mind.
I don't think it's AI though, judging by the oldest dev posts on their steam community it's been in development since 2018 and most of the current sprites are present in posts from 2021. So probably what >>750254136 said with it being a side job if it's been in dev hell this long
>>
>>750254136
>>750254380
I deleted the post and looked into it closer and it doesn't appear to be AI slop because they are "seasoned" professionals with a history and website for the game and it looks like a revolving door of developers that come and go.

But there is an odd post on twitter that is both condemning slopping up the steam store while at the same time I (think?) using AI to figure out what a poorly described video bug report was trying to say.

I wish I had realized this earlier, but the snake doesn't count as an hurtbox in phase 2.
You're not forced to stay in the bottom left corner to avoid the heart arrows, you can move around relatively freely. And you can also skip her wave bullet attack (the one that requires you to jump inbetween) if you deal enough damage, skipping straight to her final phase. Good game. I think enemies having weak spots harder to reach could spice things up nicely.

Really poorly balanced though. There was never any situation going full unga charge was not the best choice. You just spawn camp and 1 shot any wave without armor and 2 shot those.

Imo
Needs to remove the mp orbs on the floor, tone down skill damage especially on aoe moves, remove some of the shittier rooms, stop offering me skills when all of mine are maxed or give them some use beyond saying no, have more tough enemies mixed in with the little ones, bigger maps I can't spawn camp everything in, make normal attacks worth caring about beyond mp restore and just add like... more to the combat? Its just basic combo to feed 2 skills and they have no cooldown and use the same resource so you just pick the best skill and spam it

I've played all of them but they don't have the same structure, the closest one is Thief. The others are all a continuous adventure usually with areas you can pass between freely and stuff, but at the same time the devs do try to constrain you more in terms of being able to slingshot yourself across rooftops and shit. And even Thief isn't that similar in how it handles progression.

Now that the fest is nearing an end I'll post the list of Next Fest gooner games I enjoyed.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4784920/Succupie_An_Erotic_Short_Story_Demo/
This is the best one, a very funny story with SOVLFUL art and dialog.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4348280/Princess_and_Conquest_Queen_Of_Clubs/
I'm not sure if this was in the next fest, but I've had the demo DLed for a while. Management game from the Princess and Conquest guys.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4603980/Alien_Invasyndrome/
Pixel art stealth game where you play as the alien from alien and DNA extract people.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4688700/Project_Exhibitionist
There are 300 of these, this was the clone I found the best in the fest (I think the limitations of steam mean these will never be as good as off site versions though).

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4994510/Mimic_in_the_Dungeon_Demo
Idle game which could end up being good if expanded well, waiting to see the full game.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2696110/Situation_Succ_Inn_Elysium/
Stealth escape game, I would have enjoyed it more if you were the succubus though.
>>
>>750258746
I agree with Nulphia. The only issue I have is that at time It can be unclear what you're suppose to do. Like I finished the dungeon in the forest and saved chief's daughter, but the lamp still tells me to go to the ruins in the forest. I dunno if I missed something in the dungeon or what.
>>
>>750272083
Now the not quite as good ones.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5229540/Kung_Fu_Waifus_Demo/
Dumb ass name but a fun trainer game. Demo is way too miserly though which makes me think the full game might be mid.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5207080/How_to_Train_Your_Spirit_The_Exorcism_of_a_Busty_Ghost_Demo/
Another decent trainer game.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4575510/Glowstick_Pirates_Harem_Conquest/
RPG game where you play as a pirate with a curse that makes his cock grow. Very clearly rance inspired but not as good.

That's all I've found so far. I personally didn't find the slop tide too bad I didn't feel like I was quite drowning in it, tons of cool games out there. I think most of the hate is just influencers trying to drum up anger.
>>
>>750216568
>>Tropico 7
>Nothing against city builders, but they're just not my genre.
Tropico 5 started a downward slop even if the game itself was terrible. Everything has been moving away from any sort of flavoring it had previously as a banana Republic sim. No more dirty buildings, every person you drill down to look at isn't even Spanish.
It's perfectly serviceable but it's not Tropico anymore.
Also the cut in 3d models instead of the pop up portraits to give you updates are such a downgrade I couldn't even be bothered to finish the demo.

Another Harvest Moon clone, now with Chinese furries. This one has polished and snappy movement which instantly puts it above 95% of the other trash.
Pixel art and world design is fantastic. Character portraits are very cute.
Writing is warm but short and to the point. Quests seem very forgiving but the flavor text is nice.
Seems like a simple but cozy game. You can build structures but there doesn't seem to be any need to do so?
Didn't explore the tech trees.

I hear you. Stardew valleys new chocolate game is going to focus on adventuring more than farming, there's always that.
I'd love a game that lets me adventure with some actual risk reward, that requires planning. Like, I want to have to go away from my base for several days and plan accordingly, maybe longer. Calculate rations and travel day costs against quest rewards, accepting shouldn't be a given. Being forced to hire mercs to guard your camp while you explore a dungeon or clear goblins from a remote area. Hire logistic help for the journey etc.
NPC:s that gain favor for you by your long-term actions, not if but how you help the community, the direction you go.
Clothing choices, cleanliness, dedication, work ethic, organization... I want to have to consider more aspects depending on which romantic parner I go for. What do they care for? Does it matter if I come home covered in blood as long as I bring the money? Does it matter if I'm poor as long as I'm kind to the village orphans?

I thought that might be the case, but I still couldn't find it. Is it west or north from the forest?
Overall I think I liked the haunted mansion location the most. Really nice atmosphere and neat reward for completing it.

fun and decently hard 3d precision platformer. The start is a bit weird and unintuitive, search for a vent on the wall if you get stuck (also check out the "skybox" around your house, neat effect). Once you get to the jumping it gets really good. Pic related is pretty brutal with the timing.

I'm a sucker for Action RPG games with lots of "customization" i bought and 100% Dimraeth after around 22hours but the game is on early access so there's not enough content yet, bought "slormancer" but barely played it because it feels more "arcadey" even though i really liked the whole multiple things to farm/customize, but on this steam fest i played the demo for Emberville and didn't even finished it because i liked it so much that i KNOW i'm buying it next week when it comes out.

Are there any other games like that to keep an eye on? Action RPG, lots of customization and loot, doesn't matter the graphics.

North after you get into the forest.
>>
>>750276368
>I hear you. Stardew valleys new chocolate game is going to focus on adventuring more than farming, there's always that.
It's still Stardew Valley, which is still just Harvest Moon, with the mercantile relationships and whatnot. Besides, I'm not feeling very strongly about adventuring in a game about chocolate.
>I'd love a game that lets me adventure with some actual risk reward, that requires planning. Like, I want to have to go away from my base for several days and plan accordingly, maybe longer. Try Wayward if you're okay with it being more about survival and less about interacting with medieval society. I actually had to do exactly that several times - assemble a ration kit in advance knowing I'll be away from my base for a long time, and even had to establish forward bases/outposts so I could have essential facilities while far from home.
The Long Dark is another candidate for such an activity, but I don't know if I'd recommend it. It was great like half a decade ago when I played it, but the main dev is a gigaretard and probably fucked it up by now.
>Clothing choices, cleanliness, dedication, work ethic, organization... I want to have to consider more aspects depending on which romantic parner I go for. What do they care for? I would also love to have relationships where people actually react to your personality traits and deeds instead of just liking you for agreeing with them and disliking you for disagreeing with them.

Good suggestion, I already own it. I had a really hard time adjusting to the orthogonal movement in that one.
>I actually had to do exactly that several times - assemble a ration kit in advance knowing I'll be away from my base for a long time, and even had to establish forward bases/outposts so I could have essential facilities while far from home.
Damn, I need to give it another chance. It's exactly what I want to have to consider when going on expeditions. There needs to not only be a risk reward aspect, but a planning aspect.
Check out The Last Plague: Blight if you haven't, it does some pretty cool things with survival. Btw my other favourites apart from CDDA and UnReal World are Vintage Story, DinoSystem and Card Survival: Tropical Island. Then there's the upcoming Mirklurk too, from the previous NextFest.
I've been wanting to get into The Long Dark but haven't gotten around to it.

Pirate it first if you can be arsed. I really can't confidently vouch for it after so many years under the supervision of that director. It definitely was good when I still played it, but I can tell that was an accident.

>I'm not a huge fan of modern survival unless it's post-apocalyptic and with enemies (non-zombies).
It's nod modern, it's medieval post-apocalyptic, with a story.
You play a man returning to his village during a plague, only to find it and every nearby town made unapproachable by said plague. You have to fend for yourself in the wilderness and try to find sustenance that isn't tainted by the disease. Some wild animals seem affected by it and hunt you. It's a pretty cool setting imo.
>CDDA
>Trans, shan't.
Wasn't that only one of the forks?
>Mirklurk
>Didn't it already release?
Early access...
>Card Survival: Tropical Island
>Doesn't look like my thing. I like to feel immersed in the world.
Sure, also it's more autistic than UnReal World and Vintage Story lol
DinoSystem is even more autistic still
However, if you can get into Wayward you'll have no issues with the fact that it's a card game. Try the demo, it's fucking neat what they've managed to do with it.

Not sure if it's exactly what you guys are looking for but stalker GAMMA might be up your alley. You gotta be careful managing your supplies and efficiency, especially early on because you've got no way to super quickly make a ton of money so if you waste too much ammo and healing items on a mission you might end up in the negative. Or you can be underprepared and end up having to use the dogshit broken weapons enemies drop because you ran out of ammo for yours.
Oh yeah and I'll also mention Neo Scavenger, that one's less about prepping for adventures and more about hobomaxxing though.
>>
>>750281584
>Wasn't that only one of the forks?
CDDA itself. BN had some muslims shit in it, and possibly a same sex couple in the shelter you're supposed to find in the early game, but I don't remember. Either way, aside from being gay and lame it also has the problem of not being a game I have fun playing. When I realized that 70% of my gameplay is tard-wrangling my controls and moving stuff from one tab to another I realized that I'd rather be doing anything else right now.
>You play a man returning to his village during a plague, only to find it and every nearby town made unapproachable by said plague. Close enough. Still haven't gotten to actually properly play the demo, truth be told. Something about it keeps irking me.

Odd for a guy recommending ascii games to complain about visuals. How do you handle reading books?
The card game has locations and you build a very strong visual of your camp as you expand it, I promise you. I can just sense you nearly missing out on something you'd enjoy here
>>
>>750273972
The demo only has quick matches and no tutorial so I feel like it's doing this game a disservice, because it seems cool but I just mashed buttons not really understanding why some connected well and others didn't.
>>
>>750276739
I was kind of liking it until the actual main section of the game started. It's just so jarring that it became what is basically a repetitive "cohabitation" game.
>>
>>750283417
yeah, same. I could be playing teaching feeling or the monochrome sister games instead
>>
>>750283401
I agree. There's no real tell for how you aim for body shots when they guard high, or when or why to plant your feet. Should you slip as a dodge for straights? Are quick punches better at countering? It's a bit too fast to tell what's happening.
I found it a bit annoying that every boxer didn't have access to every move - I'd rather have some styles be much better at them than being locked out.
Still, impressive work on that one.

Top kek. This is the modern version of people crafting unpainted marble statues because they thought that that's how the Romans and Greeks did it.

Wayward has a proper interface and mouse support unlike ASCII games.
>How do you handle reading books?
Are you really trying to start shit with someone over prefering certain visuals in a visual medium? I can obliterate you in an argument if you actually are, so you better not be.
>The card game has locations and you build a very strong visual of your camp as you expand it, I promise you. I can just sense you nearly missing out on something you'd enjoy here

>>
