thanks for the thread

>Homeplanet
UI inputs requested in the tutorial seems unbound, couldn't be arsed to setup the game for the demo. Might try again later.
VA for the instructor seems decent.

>CRYMELIGHT
Action roguelite with visual novel appeal. Fantastic VA and art. Cute writing. Great music, reminds me of Hitoshi Sakimoto from Vanillaware.
Action seems basic but decent. Standard controls but really well animated main character attack doll gimmick. There's a poker element I never got to. I quit once I realized it was good, wishlisted, will check out later on again.

>False Oath
Cool RE/Onimusha clone. The durability system seems pretty punishing, even if you manage to parry 80% of hits. Would have liked one or two more attack possibilities. I like how quick it gets you into it.

>Dungeon Lurker
A disappointment. Didn't feel good to me. Needs work on movement, it feels very mechanical, not in a responsive way. Enemies aren't interesting to fight. Needs a lot of work. Removed from wishlist.

>Wolf Plot
Might be the best Lemmings clone I've come across. Still, I don't care much for lemmings.

>Forge of the Fae
Beautiful pixel art on characters and UI. Music is pretty drab. Nothing special with the combat. Arts system from Trails? Seems much simplified. Writing is stilted.

>Codex Lost 2
If you're going to clone something that's over two generations old at least attempt to match it's quality.

>Flashes of Chaos
Hotline miami clone with terrible UI. Weapon crafting is a good addition but everything else is supbar. Too easy, you get way too much health and OP weapons.
Enemy AI is retarded.

>Split Decision
Decently written but the judging gameplay was incredibly dull. Music is great though.

>ASUKA x Redline Reverie
Couldn't get my shitbox to drift. I couldn't afford decent tiers after splurging on the meme car, perhaps that was it... want to give this more time.

Anyway, we're talking about grid based representations of game worlds with little to no graphical embellishments, compared to a card game with a node-based world and ample illustrations. I'm having a hard time figuring out where your ability to immerse yourself ends, when comparing roguelikes to card games or books.

I was fully ready to write off Half Grip before I tried it.
The driving model is surprisingly detailed, the individual tire grip actually mattering was unexpected.
Pretty big learning curve figuring out when to do each action but I was able to win most races through clean driving without having to rely on weapons. The ram/snow plow upgrade also helped a ton.

The grid does a good job at visually representing an area. A set of cards doesn't. A book is not a game, it's a book. If you're comparing games to books - your card game better have some rock solid story under all these colored squares. But something's telling me it doesn't.

It's fairly light on dialogue but nothing stood out to me as an obvious "localizer moment". Femme has a lovey dovey yandere tone and there's a lot "vomit=orgasm" innuendo, like "let it all out for me, darling~~".

Copypasting my impressions from >>750232760
>It obviously hinges entirely on if you like staring at an anime girl to a wacky electro soundtrack. Basically you pick from a russian roulette of 3 drinks of varying strengths, and you have to stay below your drunk limit while getting her to crack hers. You can level up your stats between rounds, and you get a variety of ability cards to tip the odds in your favor, like revealing a shot glass' strength, reducing your drunk meter etc.

Astrider is an Ace Combat clone with voice acting that sounds like it's the dev and his buddies alongside the cheapest female VA they could get on Fiverr. Demo seems to be VERY early into development. Third person aiming is borderline impossible because the HUD for some reason moves with you and has inertia like it's Dead Space but instead of behind you it's in front of your plane. Demo is super short, 10 minutes or so.

Nigger.
>What a profound observation
The amount of things that are self-evident to you is much smaller than the amount of things that are self-evident to me. Since you're beneath me, I need to stay on the safe side and explain seemingly obvious things. Because if I expected you to understand the same things I do, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
>Neither does a book, hence my question
A book has a story and a narrative and other things that make it worth using.
>Now you're talking about "story" rather than spatial visualization
Genuinely retarded? A book's job is to tell a story. That's what makes it worth imagining the rotating realistic apples for, you dingus.

Simultaneous excitement and disappointment.
I've posted this dev in the past, he had a game in an earlier nextfest which has become one of my favorite hidden gems
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2509800/VersionThree_INVISIBLE_RAID/
Hands down the best first generation Armored Core style indie I've ever played, hit everything spot on and the gamefeel was TIGHT.

Code Phantom loses some of that tight gamefeel, and I partially blame adding legs to his mech designs, but part of that is just not being familiar with the momentum and movement style. By the end of my time with the demo I was directional stepping and boosting to maintain speed, I think once I fogure it out it will hopefully feel similar to boost hopping like in ps2 era armored cores.
My main complaint is the performance, ran pretty terribly on my 3060 12gb and, needs optimization badly so you aren't forced to use DLSS with the graphics preset still on low/medium.

Lots of good looking games coming, just did not have time to try out that many demos.

Unfrost tries to be new FPS Phasmophobia. I see the potential, but demo was very weak.

Starhome has interesting premise, but was aggressively average. Art style and models were really bad.

For some reason 2 copies of Steel Panther (dos game) are being made at the same time, one even looking uglier than the orginal one.
Steel Company and Steel Wolverines.

Comrads, Secrets Escape! was surprisingly fun, even with slow start and weak art style. Wishlisted.

Reposting XXXX from previous thread, possibly the demo I've enjoyed the most this next fest. 2D platformer boss rush game, it reminded me a bit of Last Command and NanoApostle visually but I can recommend it to people who've enjoyed Gurei, Rubinite, Cuphead, that kind of thing. It's mechanically very simple but somehow manages to be really fun, challenging and full of personality. Music and artstyle are the heavylifters here, especially the music.

Sounds gay but (irrelevant blogpost) this demo made me reconsider what I thought I believed to be important for me to look at or enjoy games, turns out gameplay depth or the "gameplay first" philosophy is likely not in 1st place contrary to what I've led myself to assume. Turns out it took me this long to understand that games are the sum of their parts, you can't just extract any given abstract element like gameplay and replace it nilly-willy. Aesthetics and soundtrack are extremely important to create satisfying gamefeel, and I fully get that now.

Not that the gameplay in this is bad mind you, movement is smooth and fights flow well, and there's no I-frames so you have to properly space yourself.

Wanna try some schizo shit? This game was made by someone who's only been told about modern games through interpretive dance. Imagine Deadly Premonition on crack.
Enemies have a parry meter that's entirely disconnected from their animation and attack patterns. Their attacks will hurt you unless you move out of the way, the parry is only there as a minigame you have to clear to damage the enemies, not avoid attacks.
First room will make your drop frames like a bitch, probably some highly detailed object in the scene.
Still, for all these reasons it's interesting.

Now that the dust is settling, what's your top 3? For me it's probably
>Inkblood (looking to be a better curse of the golden idol)

>Malignus
Dungeon Keeper styled like Rimworld.

>Slam Tank
Spectacle fighter where you play a tank. They did the meme, except it was fun this time.

>Wyldheart
Dungeon crawler with some kind of weird quasi-permadeath system. Very repetitive map design, somewhat janky combat, but peculiar systems and cute gobbos.
>>
>>750291218
>Gravity Circuit 2
Not much to say, it's more Gravity Circuit. Expected quality, got quality, gonna get the full game.
>Slam Tank
Controls great, highest difficulty was a little too frustrating for me so when I play the full thing it's gonna be on Hard instead, shows promise if they turn some interesting machines into enemy types and especially bosses.

All three from >>750291949 are none of those things, though Wyldheart has a weird-ass death system where you get to die 5 times before permanently kicking the bucket and have to rest in the town to restore your "faint points" if you don't want that to happen. I think it might have something to do with them trying to style it after some kind of tabletop ruleset.

Aside from that, there's also Nomadica, which is sort of a lifesim adventure RPG. Combat is atrocious but I have high hopes for it, definitely totally not because the female playable character model is cute and sexy.

You just want the threads to go away because you are a miserable loser.

Everyone enjoys the festival with the exception of one minor ineffectual freak. That is why no one ever answers your question.
>>
I tried two H games but they were both kinda just eh
>Situation Succ: Inn Elysium
Succubus Prison 2 but no loli. The game would force you to wait at certain lines of dialogue periodically, usually for a cutscene but it was kind of awkward. The actual sex scenes were kinda cool, even if they weren't my cup of tea.

>How to train your spririt: the exorcism of a busty ghost
The first H scene was completely linear, and while the rest was free-form touching/molesting/sex, it just felt like it was missing something.
>>
I consider "Day One buys" to be pretty well the best "score" a demo can get. So, out of the demos from this festival only, that have an actual release date, and that I will BUY on that release date, there is only one game that meets all that criteria:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4964640/Infested_DX/
>>
>>750306680
Why?
>>
>>750306815
Why what?
>>
>>750306836
Why is it the only game that you would buy day one? I would like to hear what you enjoyed about it.
>>
>>750306890
There's other games that might be DayOne buys but we dont know when DayOne is yet because they haven't announced their release date. And there's other ones that have announced a release date but maybe the price on launch day is too high or something and I decide not to go for it. The maybe pile.

Infected DX is just a faithful ripoff of Shadowgate and Deju Vu and Uninvited and stuff and I like those games and it is a small genre.

Not sure how much truth in "From the creators of Barotrauma" is in there though, somehow I feel it's "some" people who worked on Barotrauma, and not the ones responsible for it being good.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4735110/Your_Painting_Sir_Demo/
Relatively simple idea but I like the execution. You rely on newspaper cutouts to do things like forge paintings because your boss told you go to an art auction but your clock breaking made you miss it, and as your boss is almost blind you can make close-enough compositions to fool him. Or look for aliens in what basically amounts to spot the difference. Or look for the apple pie thief which actually filtered me I could point out the lifeguard but no fucking idea who stole his whistle.

This is one of those games that rely on humor, which can be a hit or miss thing, but this game consistently made me smile and that's good enough for me.

>anomalith
I've also played anomalith but the gameplay seemed a bit simple to my taste. I'm guessing animations will be polished later as well.

>grip 2
was cool but not my kind of racing game, you can flip your car at will because there are parts where you can drive on the wall, so it's the kind of arcade racing game where you have a lot of options in how to drive technically but to me it just feels like a headache to consistently get the "good path". Perhaps I'm just too much of a scrub.

> apple crumble
you're driving grandma to a family get-together but everyone forgot it's her birthday, but that isn't her biggest worry though as she feels something is amiss. Seems to be a free roaming adventure game where you do your objectives and find out stuff about your family, some of which are behaving strangely, and as the game's description says one of them is looking to kill grandma so your objective is preventing that. Not really my kind of game, but I might get it for cheap

>imprinted
one of those games where you are using a computer completing some objectives like something spooky slowly develops, at least what I played was related to audio editing. Might get it for cheap

This game has potential to be cool but the whole having to look up each enemy type and memorize the order you have to attack them in really slows everything down. I guess after awhile you'd have it down but I don't know..
It also does that annoying thing some fps's do where the gun is like, 2 inches away from your face and looks ridiculous.
