No. It actually adds extra layers of unexpected difficulty. With 2D art you always make it look better by rendering a little more, pushing colors furthers etc. In 3D it's indirect and done through million formulas, so the result is hard to predict unless you've made a lot 3D art before.
People only put up with it because animating 3D is a lot more efficient.

There's a lot of ways to improvize and stylize when it comes to 3d art. You can get away with flat colors, gradients or you can use programs like substance painter and even turn that into pixelized textures.

With 2d you got one path and that's to make good art. There's no way around it.

You have 40 years of game art to imitate. Just put down basic shape of your game object, put down layer of neutral color, put down layer of shadows, add some highlights where light hits and if it still looks a little flat, overlay a texture of material or draw a reflection. 2D art is a method, you don't need to be DaVinci.

I've made some number changes to the fighter. They now get "power attack" dealing 20 damage and pushing an enemy backwards, it costs 2 actions to do.

Its interesting how just cranking the numbers immediatley adds personality.

I've also added status effects to the game and a two turn slow to the rangers attack. I wont lie it feels a bit too boring right now so i will probably look for somthing more interesting like pierce or somthing.

I'm working on a multiplayer game with Claude right now actually. It suggested breaking it apart into steps so I'm just on the making a single player prototype phase. We will see how fucked it is when trying to do multiplayer. But AI feels like one of tools where it only helps if you already know what your doing. This is important to learn. Even if you don't do tiktok or shorts, a good chain of tubers making videos of your demo and/or your launch version is a huge boon to your visibility and sales. If your game's videos perform well on youtube more tubers will hop on and some might make multiple videos.

You can track the total amount of stuff in a dictionary but if you use an inventory that has items occupy slots or space then you have to track that separately. For example you could have the dict<itemname,itemdef> and itemdef has a list<itemloc> and for ease of use you have a itemstack[invsize] and itemstack holds how many in the stack (even if max 1) and the itemname or itemdef or whatever.

It is helpful to be able to track the total amount of stuff and as always there's a bunch of ways to go about it.

It's early access indie. There's a reason why Chris Zukowski tells people to not do early access, it's basically a "real" launch but without any of the hype of an actual launch, which lowers the sales and popularity for when you actually do release the game.

I will say like I said in the last /v3/ interview tho huamanity itself makes me more sick of Bokube than working on Bokube itself since the negative energy of people themselves constantly attacking me both online and offline about Bokube makes working on it harder; (not that i'd ever be some kind of faggot and give up) but just more annoying that im probably going to have a better mood to work on bokube 30 minutes a day forever; after it releases on steam in a 1.0 version and keep updating it forever until its perfect than right now as im trying to rush it into a 1.0 state and get it on steam for sale in a good enough 1.0 version to make annoying people stfu

maybe; but the goal of a good 6-9 hour game that is worth playing through with good level design, a decent story, and good art is more important than money right now; and im happy bokube is getting close to finishing development meeting those goals even if it doesn't sell well due to lack of marketing theres a reason im selling it for $4.99 to get into the hands of as many people (at the low amount of people who find it); will find it easy to buy it.


Even the goal of my next game isn't copies sold but I want to make a game that breaks modern design conventions; i think its better to have design goals you set yourself rather than money because a lot of bad games sell a lot these days; and I rather make good video game master pieces (and get better at the formula of making good games over time with each new game) than make a ton of a money. Seeing a game succeed with buggy features I could easily fix and art so low quality that I could do speaks volumes. Released in 2018, has over 1500 reviews, and sells for over $10. I would be in such a good position in life right now if I just started devving much sooner. I've noticed that the 2010's were a great time of opportunity while the 2020's are rather lacking by comparison and far more competitive. Got the car door working. Having a hinge joint/rigid object stay in place while driving and be intractable is a bit of pain, but I'm pretty happy with. Can take it out for a rip. Also fixed a ton of bugs that don't make for nice webms, like better progress saving.

I using the pathfinding algorithm A* to find a valid path between 2 points. this is complicated by the fact that the pathfinding agent cannot travel normally in all directions, but can only travel by placing rooms.
Separately, I am constructing a tree of rooms (excluding the hallways) and performing a breadth first search to measure the distances between each room, and restricting where a path is checked based on that distance.
you should understand what procgen is DOING in your game. and dont say "making the game infinitely replayable". that is naive.
procgen's sole purpose is SOLUTION HIDING. if you provide the same problem to a player multiple times, the solution becomes trivial to figure out. they can easily repeat the same steps as last time without interfacing any deeper with the game's mechanics
one of the mechanics of pivoquest is avoiding threats you cannot currently deal with. in a map without loops, this becomes a lot more annoying. so I'm adding loops
