I know you tried to make a point but reading this I started thinking about what if game that is project zomboid without zombies. Last man on earth vibes. What if the gameplay aspect is the scavenging and base building. Take the food growing elements from farming games. Your goal would be to make a self-sustaining home. Give the player a checklist of things to achieve and allow them to keep playing after they are done if they feel like it.

Multiplayer is solved in the sense that you as a dev won't really have to worry if your UDP packages are getting to the players or how the players connect to a server. Most engines handle that stuff just fine. The stuff that is "solved" but not shared is all the gameplay feel and networked gameplay implementation side stuff. How does WoW feel so good to play despite being online? I don't fucking know and I don't know how I could find out. How does Overwatch make all that movement and special abilities work smoothly and look right in a networked environment? Idk. Maybe that stuff is out there somewhere but I haven't come across it. Maybe AI knows, I haven't tried making a multiplayer game in a while so I haven't consulted AI about it.

You must be new. People here dev their dream games for 5 to 10 years, only a few reach release and even less have some sales.
The exceptions to that are branno, cosmic and nun(formerly fiend's) dev. They also have a nice attitude of progress because they didn't give up after their first shitty release, another trap that kills 90% of agdg devs.

The donuts were 40% off so I'd be throwing money away by NOT buying some. The math made sense at the time.
The next 7-10 days I'll be working on some updates to my existing games. I'm surprised at the trepidation I feel at having to work on them again. It's my games, my code, I should feel confident with it but I was feeling anxious for weeks at having to do this. Outdated dependencies, breaking changes, builds keep failing, not remembering how the code works and that's just to compile it so it runs. I'm adding to my schedule that I need to update each of my games at least once every 3 months if there's anything to update. I left it to rot for 2+ years in one case and now I lost the know-how and I'm poking around my own code like I'm defusing a bomb.
142 days left, I owe 15 hours to my game.

I think this whole thing with a lot of the industry moving to Unreal will have some big consequences in the near future. It is a big mistake. We are already seeing all the poorly running Unreal slop with the traditional Unreal rendering artifacts that make the game look like ass. Maybe it made sense to some penny pinchers in the short term based on some profit calculations but I don't think it will play out to be true in the long run.

Large studios are already experiencing mass scale brain drain and now they're forcing their remaining skilled devs to work in Unreal which would make anyone consider ending it. the gameplay, systems and even which camera I'm going to use isn't decided yet. I may want first person like Skyrim or Mass Effect camera or BG3 style. Top down games offer a strategic view which makes it easier to parse large amounts of information. Going first person means putting more items on the mental stack as players now have to parse spatial information as well rather than have a perfect image at all times. So it depends what you want your game to be, SS13 has lots of complexity but it's also an early 2000s chatroom game so it depends which direction you want to lean in.

It's a very unoriginal idea that rests entirely on your ability to execute it. If you can it will sell. There's an audience for imsims though it's a bit of a niche one. I think both Monomyth and Peripeteia would have done better if the devs had been able to even out some of the rough edges in those games but they didn't exactly do bad considering their price. Anyone got any wacky ideas for a autobattler game? I want to push this idea a bit more before I try makign the art more solid.

Adding classes/skill trees is one idea I had to increase the complexity.

Another idea was a "city builder" system where you attach more islands to your combat platform. somehow the things you add would provide bonuses to the player.
Perhaps the game could be two floating cities fighting one another for resources. Like they dock against one another send their best champions and they fight on their cities behalf.

If you lose your people starve.

Thematically sounds cool but im not sure what bonuses i could add via the city to make it interesting whilst keeping the classes unique.

too rng with the good stuff being too rare was an issue in dwarves death glory and loot

it had item rarity tiers and dwarf rarity tiers and then each biome had its own rare loot the shop could roll and upgrading the shop unlocked new stuff at each location and it has an item set system so it's crucial to be able to build the sets with good stats so it was like rng on rng on rng on rng to get a well equipped dwarf and sometimes I'd be rolling for dozens of times in the shop not finding the specific item I was after

systems to offset the rng would be good to have but also if your item pool grows large you gotta have more than 3 options per roll a lot of roguelites make that mistake limiting it to 3

topdeck automat combines deck building with autobattling which I found to be quite neat

I think it was the first impression making the game seem different enough to spark that amount of interest but the progression kinda sucks and the gameplay doesn't change at all every progression tree island you unlock is more of the same

i couldn't easily pull off multiplayer with a previous game and had to abandon it. so much time wasted only to get wrecked on multiple fronts, not just the multiplayer aspect. i didn't see it selling well as singleplayer only, nor did it help how much development was still needed.

the next game i made could sell with or without multiplayer. the big problem being that no multiplayer meant i'd need way more content. i've dropped it for now and am now on yet another game, fully singleplayer. hold me sisters, i wasted so much time!

Honestly after detoxing myself of slop I can't stand to eat most of it. Like yeah pizza tastes good but over here it's handmade idk how it's in the US. Burgers from the major chains taste awful. Anything microwaved is horrible. There's some handmade burgers from the local joints which can be good and then there's this fries & cut up sausage combo box with a bunch of toppings that's popular here which can on occasion be quite nice too. I get fast food like once or twice a month.

Finished a retopo, bake, and bone transfer this week.
Looks alright, went from ~30k tris to ~2k. Material needs a little fine tuning.
Don't usually like doing things this way, but Unreal free store shit just dropped it in my lap, so I figured why not.

Additionally finished some other models and logic for visual mcguffins for player progression.

Also did a pre-emptive performance check to see how the render pipeline is handling stuff and if I'm mostly hitting performance targets. Problem is I'm not skilled enough to know if the RHI stats in Unreal play-in-editor are lying to me, and if PIE is not performing optimizations that would normally run in a fully compiled game. More to dig in to and learn, I guess.

I'm thinking that online items can only be used when online.
Local items are usable online or offline. They can be generated offline by the completion of time based crypto hashes (math problems hard to parallelise). The difficulty of the hash is determined by what the user is doing.
Could an offline user generate items by building a generator? Sure, but the rate of verification of items will be far lower than playing normally online or macroing online. This way items can be added to the market from offline.
