Is there any way at all I can set up a hidden motion sensor? All I want to do is detect players or mobs in the vicinity of a door to make it open.
>>
>>474689720
yeah, sculk sensors
if you have EnderIO there is the painter block which can paint any block to any other block, so you can get any run of the mill entity detector and hide it. it really depends on your modlist what your options are

h-haha my calculation must be wrong, 1944 bricks for a brick blast furnace?
>it takes only 4 bricks per full brick dust if you compress them to brick blocks before grinding
oh, so only 864 bricks then

>>474694502
37 firebrick blocks (33 for structure, 4 for controller), each is 6 bricks, so 222 for a blast furnace
every 2 firebricks are 1 clay dust and 1 brick dust, clay dust is 4 clay, brick dust is 4 bricks so (222 / 2) * 8 = 888 clay or 13 stacks and 56 clay

And realistically you want AT LEAST 4 of these furnaces to get you through LV until you can make steel easier. Thankfully you can wallshare so each subsequent furnace is cheaper and require less brick blocks. Also make sure to compress your coal coke once you have the compressor, it gives you a coal coke for free and more importantly lets you run the blast furnaces for way longer without having to constantly check up on them.

If you think this is bad wait until you have to start making circuits for LV.
Get to digging.

>>
>>474696571
Sand in a smeltery, then use the faucets to dump the molten glass into casting basins (the ones for blocks) that makes clear glass. Glass panes should be glass and a saw in a crafting table.

Honestly the micro crafting never gets better but the early game is especially bad because you're locked out of most machines and all the recipes are aids, but it starts picking up really fast. Soon you get more efficient recipes than even vanilla, as for example in picrel once you get to MV and can craft an arc furnace you start getting 2 glass blocks per sand.

It's completely up to you how you want to pace your game but my recommendation after having done all of this is to rush through Steam to LV to MV asap, MV is when you get the most quality of life improvements that makes microcrafting less aids, and HV is the first real tier where you're going to be stuck for a while. It'll go by faster than you think
>>
>>474697736
im taking my time
just waiting for the macerator all day and mining basically
>>
>>474697859
mine that coal vein and get the gypsum or whatever you need for the firebricks asap. You want steel immediately so you can make a tool forge and get the tinker's construct hammers that let you mine in a 3x3.
>>
>>474698182
i need a lot of calcite and gypsum
i also need to go mine coal to start making coke
but i also really need a steam tank so i can actually run more than 1 machine at a time and not waste steam so much

I disagree, what the devs have done on a technical level is nothing short of genius. We've actually been chasing the functional rotating interactable tile entities meme for 12 years, even before archimedes' ships, stuff like framez and whatnot were always highly regarded, and those things were fucking janky as all hells.
The sheer ingenuity of the code and how they achieved everything by basically abusing dimension fuckery is just brilliant, and nobody else managed to do this before them.
>>474810281
sorry, I just wanted to have some discussion about it because some people might just end up seeing the shitposts and take it in stride instead of questioning it, which actually kinda happens often when you see something with some definite opposition with a "us vs them" feel to it, it's very polarizing and that captures people's attention.
>>
also I can guarantee you the guy who keeps spouting that polarizing bait posts for (you)s hasn't given a glance at the code and is just talking out of his ass for free attention and wouldn't know how to debate this even with external help
so that puts him in a position where he has to either ignore it by losing credibility or go "n-no you" and make himself look (even more of) a retard in front of everyone, which is basically a win in all cases

I tried this, and this is the interface on the main net side
it's blinking rapidly between 1 and such values, even when no generators are running.
I used inverter cards on the fluid disks in the ME drive to keep them from filling up with nitrobenzene, but it seems like it's flowing... somewhere. Back in the main net? That's not possible though, I have the buses set to extract only.
>>
>>474838043
>>said gases stored on the subnet's ME drive
Partition your storage drive using the cell workbench to only accept the gasses you want on the subnet (not necessary but helpful)

>>gases WILL NOT GO TO MAIN NET
Don't connect a fluid storage bus to any main net dual interface

>>gases WILL NOT GO TO MAIN NET
Have a fluid storage bus from your main net connected to a dual interface from your subnet
- If on extract only your main net will only be able to pull and not deposit
- If on both ways then your main net MIGHT dump fluids into your subnet, make sure to partition which fluids you want to dump (in the fluid storage bus from your main net) only if you don't set it to extract

>>main net will be able to access the subnet's storage (to use the gases)
See above

>>subnet will be able to PULL ONLY from the main net (nitrobenzene for fuel and oxygen for crafting)
No Good way to do this. You can connect a fluid storage bus to a dual interface from your main net, but then you'll be able to see all fluids on the main net. If set to extract only then your subnet can pull, but still see all fluids.
In order to not clog up the subnet terminals I recommend just partitioning a certain amount of storage for each fluid using tanks or 1k cells, then having a fluid export bus from your main net connected to a dual interface on your subnet with the benzene / oxygen you want specified.

IDK if you have sticky cards or not on your version (that work with fluids) if not you're better off making separate drives for each fluid and partitioning them all to only accept the ones you want
>>
>>474849483
I see, dunno what dual interfaces are, and I don't have sticky cards so I'll partition. Still experimenting for now, it doesn't help my setup that greg covers are still fucking bugged in modern

if your modpack doesn't have support for ae2 fluid crafting than yeah idk what to tell you it's going to be way harder to automate that, you might just have to use import / export busses instead which won't work as well and you probably won't be able to do what you want
If your modpack doesn't have pic related than you should look into if you can install it on your version, granted you're playing singleplayer. It will make it was easier to work with fluids.

The difference is way too big to describe it. The existence of reproducible test environments through instances without any random compilation step makes modding for Java compared with a console a experience akin to comparing electric trains with the transportation methods available in the bronze age. Java is shit as lang but few things can compete in how easy is to set up. The worst ones are the ones that have a very specific recipe to make them (which uses 2 useful chemicals) (at a high voltage) (in a multiblock) and then subsequently their ONLY use is to either be electrolyzed back into their respective primitive elements or you can't even do that and now you have useless trash lying around

literally more than half of the distillates you get from oil exists purely to be cracked down to methane then turned into hydrogen

they aren't even useful as fuel because for example the fuel values of methane, propane, and butane are terrible, and the fuel values of mixtures like lpg are even worse

Um...
No?
Besides Ethane all the other chemicals have different uses, granted while the ratios are shit and you'll often find yourself with a massive excess of a few, you'll still need 70% of the distillates for making high octane gasoline and then the other 25% are for oil byproducts like plastics or styrene rubber. I agree you get way too much Methane but even then that has it's uses if you want to save on elements and not have to make it yourself.
>>
>>474987079
unless you crack down the distillates in question your buffers will fill up very quickly because of the dogshit ratios

but again what is really annoying is how excess propane, butane, methane, etc are absolutely useless for fuel purposes and the excess only exists to get repeatedly cracked into hydrogen

>>
>>475000927

>>
>>475002358
Material Energy has a little bit of that. You're shoved into the collapse of reality and told to restart the universe. You do that by delving different dungeons for macguffins.
They were okay. I only played 4 and 5. 5 had better dungeons in that the second half the pack wasn't just duplicates of the first half with harder mob spawns. They aren't difficult and are fairly short.
I've said before that as a concept I think they could do really well as a fully separate game, similar to Subnautica. But the problem is a large part of their charm is bending the existing ecosystem of modded minecraft into a framework for the story/modpack, whereas in Subnautica there is really only 1 solution to everything, the one and only solution that was coded into the game to explicitly solve the problem you're presented with. So a proper commercial project would lose that open-endedness.
>>

I think for some reason the game being so infinite and vast just makes it harder for me to enjoy it. I keep trying things with content packs and half the time it's always about journeying huge distances to find any of the structures or dungeons, and minecraft's traversal just isn't fun enough for that.

Electrolyzing lazurite gives you aluminium, silicon, and sodium dust. Sodium is not that useful until late HV, there are better sources of aluminium, but silicon dust is especially useful as you'll need an assload amount of it throughout the entire pack. You also get a small amount of chlorine from sodalite (although it's better to just mine salt veins for that instead). If you have your power supply situation figured out once you get to MV i'd recommend you process an entire vein of this shit. The silicon will last you until late HV and save you headaches from trying to get enough through other sources.

most foolproof way is to put a dual interface next to either an input bus or quadruple input hatch, and a transvector interface linked to the other input
set to not push if theres stuff in the inputs
you can only do one circuit per lcr (plus circuit 0) which sucks, though you might find some circuit combinations which work fine and dont conflict.

unsellable I'm afraid. It's mostly just a collection of features, I haven't done any real building.
What it currently is based around is more exploration-centric gameplay (with no builds because I suck at building, laugh it up) and combat. If you die you respawn at town or set fixed locations, beds can be used to heal your HP twice a day, there's instanced and non-instanced dungeons (always a fixed location tho) which provide the main progression (need to clear x to trigger y, which will reveal z). There's a dodge mechanic and basic leveling/classes/skills/progression/secret skills, but I need to rethink them because some classes are definitely more fleshed out than others. I also have some other autistic plans for NPCs involving LLMs but I need to first find/figure out a good NPC system I can abuse. I'll probably have something "playabble" within a month if I steal buildings but I need to accept that it'll never be finished. okay thanks

More MMO in that the map will hopefully evolve over time. it also relies on the server for a lot of things and will require manual intervention for certain things I would want to do, plus a lot of it is extremely shittily coded and some shit I have planned requires the player to be ignorant of certain mechanics when first entering areas so I'm not sure if it'll ever be a public release. It's a fair way away from being anything close to done also as I've only done a few structures for the dungeons and haven't worked on the map at all. I was wanting to do an entirely underground map but worldpainter is aids and I gave up, so I'm going to do random gen and hand place structures probably steal some from planetminecraft. Systems and code are easy but building shit is hard idk why things just never look right to me

>>475200740
Epic Fight changes melee combat mechanics drastically so it's actually engaging, it also has skills and dodging but you can't have more than 3 besides some specific ones, that part doesn't matter as much but I'd be willing to do animations for u if you decide to incorporate it, there's an update coming very soon that streamlines the process of creating new weapons so you don't even have to know coding to add them to the game.

There's also probably a few mods that add shotguns, rocket launchers, and so on, and maybe yoy can find functional replacements for the other guns, or just make a weapons mod yourself.
>>
>>475200740
I see, just starting off with one map is probably good yeah. It all has to start somewhere and all that
If building seems unachievable to you maybe you could get help for it? making it a group project encroaches on your vision and etc yeah but it's pretty hard to do all this stuff by yourself so it's something to consider

isn't that the one with the janky combat toggle button where your attacks literally only go straight infront of you meaning that literally every combat scenario that isn't on a flat plains you'd be better off taking the damage penalty and just whacking them with combat toggle off

>>
>>475217654
maybe iron spells. I think there's another make-your-own-spells mod (that isn't ars nouveau) but I forget what it is called
>>
Anyone run into any of these issues while modding?

I've got aggressive seasons where despite a tick speed of 20(norm I think) it seems days are a bit fast and serene seasons are zooming by. BOP grasslands grow so damn fast it's like hacking through a jungle.

Another is aggressive snow generation. Serene seasons, snow real magic, and immersive weather (disabled it's stuff I just wanted frosted window blocks) interacting maybe? Snow accumulates fast and just doesn't leave. Like 20sec and your biome is white and it won't be gone before next winter.

Super skeletons are the final issue. 3 shots take you out without armor, creepers are a nuke, and it feels like skeletons have a faster firing rate. My thoughts is maybe Attribute Fix extending the caps and interacting with too much other stuff?

Also wondering radium is being weird, it's had a red message or two but not sure if it's shitting up anything.

I thought I was cooking and had something good set up but this platline shit is raping me
All the recipes take forever because its basically recycling the inputs over and over for a small yield dust that lets you move onto the next stage of processing, and it takes A LOT of energy to run these machines constantly

I only have the palladium and platinum sections done and the platinum section emptied like 50 million oxygen to get this much platinum, and each palladium dust takes like 400 buckets of hydrogen or something absurd.

Just these two lines are a passive 30k eu/tick drain. And I still have to do:

The devs recently added "projectile_action" but that shit fires immediately and there's no option to have it fire only on contact which is strange.

20k hydrogen + 5 carbon dust in LCR = 5k methane
5k methane + 10k distilled water* in LCR = 40k hydrogen + 5k co2
5k co2 in electrolyzer = 10k oxygen and 5 carbon
send the carbon and half of the hydrogen back to step 1

all minecraft mods just add more grinding in slightly different ways
you can choose more content spread out over a longer amount of time, or you can choose to have voidsteel nanosuit draconic one shot niggerium armor and infinity weapons in two hours
>>
>>475203570
I play in first person but I already know the weapon ranges but I can see that affecting someone that hasn't played with it.

>>475210393
You can angle your attacks so they hit upwards or downwards by looking at that direction and jumping attacks typically hit below you, there's also a config to make it so it toggles the combat when you are holding a weapon, also the damage penalty is massive it's not really worth it.

The only good time you should have a void base in gtnh is if you're doing garden of grind. But yes, the soulless one at least keeps the thread bumped. At least he's not having a meltdown about high res textures again.

Anyway speaking of grind that reminds me of two very special people who are doing the challenge
one has 13 episodes and is just fumbling around without any knowledge of gregtech playing it as a skyblock and has a childish charm to it and basically grinded for 200 hours to get a single LV machine
https://youtu.be/pPqJBA0dLcQ
the other is super serious and in 150 hours and 11 episode got into EV and built a mega EBF

I still prefer the childish one because while the second one might be more technically competent he just makes the whole thing look absolutely miserable
https://youtu.be/mq9bZKCWb78
>>
>>475466892
first guy looks, sounds, and plays like a typical vanilla tuber, amazed whenever a non-gregtech mod comes up and he knows how to use it
>>
>>475470970
I wouldn't know since I don't really watch these people, but I like how happy he sounds about everything.

>it's just this
even in my lawnbasiest hours, i have at least tried
how do people play like this
>>
>>475466892
>it's another episode of retards confusing tedium with difficulty
>>
The issue is that the second video is incredibly more efficient and implements from the get go very smart ideas that anyone playing the challenge should steal, like using silverwoods to generate a magical forest biome to spawn and trade with pechs for large amounts of earlygame resources the first guy is still grinding a of trickle of manually, automating resource production automatically before LV in an extremely clever way that isn't even documented anywhere on the GoG doc (which says that the first possible interaction is to use autoworkbenches) or using witchery goblins to mine stone for him instead of manually doing it like a retard, on top of a much more efficient smelting design, and actually using thaumcraft as intended to generate more resources.
If the first guy watched the second, he'd be struggling a lot less.
Clearly though, by counter the first guy has more knowledge regarding content creation, editing and advertisement being a spinoff channel for what appears to be a small youtuber, and that shows in the quality of the episode itself.

So basically first one's a dumbass doing a hyper autist challenge without knowing anything about the modpack, second one's an hyper autist doing a hyper autist challenge without knowing anything about making a video.

The thing is that that's not what's happening at all, the sperg is actually inventing new techniques as he goes, he just makes the challenge absolutely boring because it's really just raw unadulterated gregtech progression with nothing else going on.
But honestly this discussion has gone too long for comfort for me.

Does GTNH have a tool for calculating cable loss because I'm wondering how much EU is just burned into the ether for how big some of these lines get.
>>
>>475560953
debug tool to see how many amps are going through it
do the basic maths
>>
Best modern modpack with space exploration stuff?
>>
>>475560953
Not really
You can
>kind of
do the math if you have your cables hooked up to an LSC, by attaching a gregtech metrics transmitter card you can see the eu going in / out of the lsc per tick and calculate based off that
Of course if you're uptransforming your power (which you almost certainly are) then the metrics become absolutely useless

I wouldn't worry about it too much, cable loss past EV is pretty irrelevant. at IV if you're using platinum cables you can move a machine 512 blocks away from the power source before it starts to powerfail on IV recipes.
>>
>>475568706
>>475560953
Also I forgot to mention, Ae2 has GT EU p2p tunnels that let you move electricity from one point to another, but the cable loss is a flat 5% penalty regardless of the distance. It's handy if you want to move EU through dimensions, or you need a really long power line and... can't afford the good cables for your tier I guess?
>>
Everyone's playing GTNH huh? I played, got to HV and gave up because it got a really boring game loop
I've been playing Steampunk after checking out a LOT of modern modpacks, very fun mix of comfy mods with a good shader attached, only like 25hr in and I'd recommend playing with 7 curse ring because normal mode is a bit too easy with the improved skills mod. Spent 3 hours fucking around with MultiblockTweaker and ContentTweaker trying to get custom multiblock machines to not render as completely transparent when using a resource pack with CTM, ultimately just used ContentTweaker to add blocks and made copies of the textures for it to read. Now if only it were possible to add LittleTiles doors as valid blocks for the cleanroom, that'd be nice. Probably could, eventually, but I don't feel like altering the jar files themselves. Iron doors are fine, anyways.

I normally use endergetic, biomes you'll go, or nullscape but endergetic and biomes you'll go aren't on 1.20 and nullscape isn't compatible with alex's caves which is the whole reason I'm playing on this version. I melt the iron down into cast iron, then weld it into double ingots, forge them into sheets, and meld those into double sheets. This way I spend 1 charcoal per every 4 ingots in the bloomery.
Alternatively I can use these ingots in a blast furnace should I decide to advance to the steel age.

I might skip the sheet step because I expected to get a lot of iron, but not this much. Each full pile is 64 ingots.
Can you believe that I have another eight very large iron veins nearby to mine out completely?

fuck out of here with that slop
>>

nu tfc is absolutely ridiculous being able to melt hematite into cast iron over a forge
>>
>>475708231
oh, tonnes. A friend on the same server is starting a settlement so he'll need iron equipment, an anvil, and a grill. Pickaxes to mine more. Replacement tools for what I already have, tree taps, horse armor, blast furnaces at one point, and of course reserves for later.

Cast iron is basically useless right now though, the only real use it has for me is pie tins or making wrought iron, the actual important stuff.
Also the ores I used were limonite and magnetite because I live in a bog
>>
>>475703049
you can crucible raw iron ores into cast iron ingots, then throw up to 20 cast iron ingots into a bloomery to produce a 20 ingot bloom
its basically 5x more fuel and time efficient than 1.7.10 tfc

it took me almost two hours to make these
and an ender chest requires 6

For nether stars I just used the skullfire sword and went to a skeleton spawner in one of those thaumcraft mounds.
It was pretty fast, definitely felt better than the salis mundus method. Bees are better but bees are hilariously overpowered compared to everything else in GTNH because the devs like bees.

does anyone play with texture packs?
>>
>>475721198
yes
>>
>>475721198
Currently using 3 resource packs that have been frankenstein'd together along with a few other things I've had to fix or delete to get it where I want.

In typing this I've discovered that I have worn a dent into my A key, and only my A key.

Can't believe how well this works when paired with WW's OO. Nucraft has some nice world gem mods.

complete and utter lack of shit taste and/or mental illness.

Yes, and it's quite miserable to watch and makes me rethink my life choices simply by looking at it, compared to the other guy.
