/ERG/ I THINK I FIGURED IT OUTI think I know what the promise is. I think the premise radahn made to miquella that he betrayed was in front of our eyes, notice how he mentions when they're reunited that radahn fulfills his promise and their vow. I think the promise was death. I think miquella planned much of this a while ago, him being sent to the realm of shadow, radahn dying and the two reuniting, mohg being turned into radahn's meat puppet. I think he not only planned it all, but that radahn agreed to it. What changed is he found a reason to keep living, while we don't know the why, I think, he found a purpose to wage war on the stars, that whatever he was doing holding back the stars he felt as if he needed to do. Breaking his promise simply by not dying and entering the land of shadows with him. However, when he did eventually die, he forgave miquella out of love, fraternal or romantic doesn't matter, and finally fulfilled his promise, becoming miquella's elden lord at the gates that miquella needed to get to to ascend.
