Simply alpha-striking with charging melee characters deals with the unskippable swarms in Leper's smile leading to the Vescavor queen (there's larger groups in the cave) since you should be able to kill them during the surprise round before they do anything, and if you have ranged damage-dealers then all the better because then they're not even at risk of getting gibbered (which, for the record, can be made immune to with unbreakable heart, which you at that level should be able to cast lots of times): after all they are only resistant rather than immune to physical damage, and if don't have the firepower to kill them before they get close and you're feeling cheesy (to be fair it's a pretty standard tactic), you can hide the rest of the party and just kite. And then there are actual counters like shout.

Dragon Age games unironically have the best race reactivity. The Dwarf Noble start in DAO is probably my favorite example of racial reactivity of all time. Absolute manlet kino.

A single choice of race in Dao, for example, offers infinitely more roleplaying than any stat leveling choices in elden slop. screenshot didn't work but I appreciate the BG1 NPC mod, even if it's a bit uh, amateurish sometimes. I enjoy it enough I think I'd always keep it for the future playthroughs. Just had an interaction with Montaron triggered by resting which was kind of cool, nicer than just "x amount of time has passed" which is the majority of vanilla companion triggers besides rarely interjecting in the story. Also when we woke up, he and Kivan had a little spat. Kivan was upset by some torturer's tools he found, I had options to calm things down or demand Monty toss them or get kicked out. I wonder if his decision would rely on anything, that would be neat if it would. also Kivan referred to me as a bookworm when we first met, I wonder if that's because I have 18 int, (though fighter, going to dual into mage) or that's what he always says due to coming from Candlekeep. Anyways, sort of refreshing. I think modded BG1 really is the way to go, I'd even say for new players honestly. Even little things like this wolf mod I have, where they aren't bloodthirsty demons who charge at you, instead hang back, unless they feel they have a strong numbers advantage, then they might attack the party, but will also run if things are looking bad for them. Oh, also the NPC mod adds different music for companions interacting with you which is a nice touch, I'm sure I'd hate it if I recognized any of the music, I believe it's just sourced from other games and free online music, I don't remember.

I don't see much reason to play as any of the companions, since you'll see their whole thing (which mostly doesn't have any diversion, except for a very small number of exceptions) as Durge anyhow. And since they hang out at camp (all what, 6 of them), you can take any 3 you want and still not miss anyone's thoughts on situations or their storyline. Finally, it's 5e and only up to 12th level (which you can hit even early Act3, which also feels bad) so there's nothing to really try out with builds, as largely anything will work on Tactician, with Honor Mode not really worth talking about imo. I don't mean to completely shit on the game, I think they did some things right and obviously it sold better than any CRPG probably ever. But it's just not made to be a timeless classic, it was made to draw in a lot of people who otherwise wouldn't touch CRPGs. The economy perfectly allows you to just buy restoration scrolls and such, the biggest limitation is actually just enemy backline spamming spells that deal chip damage that has to be healed, but the economy also allows you to just buy a hundred potions so realistically it's not an issue. Or you could use the for all intents and purposes unlimited rests (with restore to full health food) to heal. Or spec one of the fighters as an archer to take care of the backline, or use dimension door scrolls, or whatever, which admittedly runs against the theme (but then, so does summoning chaff for playful darkness, I haven't been strict about it).

We also might want to consider heading to Beregost for some supplies, since we're getting our asses beaten a bit with SCS on level 1. Playing just on Hardcore, which feels fine so far, but I'll put it on Insane if it ends up feeling too easy, but generally I prefer to just make suboptimal but interesting choices, rather than up the difficulty (typically just bigger numbers anyhow)

There's a few chests that remain accessible after you clear them out, and I've always wondered if I'm missing something or it's just them being inconsistent.
