I figure people could excuse shitty netcode if your online game is good enough, any quirks or annoyances they'll put up with until you can hire someone to write some better code.

Horde RTS for tablets where you use a paint overlay to control where your units will go. Scribble harder on an area to send more units there. Earlier levels introduce different colours. Later levels introduce runes which add effects. Later still require object recognition for what you draw and reject anything that doesn't match.

You eventually have to draw a cat that AI can recognise, incorporate the runes for fire and resist into your drawing because you're fighting flamekin, and do this while your units travel down the cat-shaped path you've set and probably get rekt by your opponent.

One day I will program her.

>sugary yogurt
Honey is one of the healthiest sources of carbs, and the amount of protein in yogurt depends on the kind. The skyr they sell at my grocery store has like 19g of protein per 100kcal, which is pretty good.

The problem with that anon's breakfast is the granola and toast. That shit is real poison.
>>
>>488940930
Japan has weak currency so if you make foreign money you can live like a king in a first world country. (As opposed to moving to a 3rd world shithole to live like a king where there's less facilities and more people who can shag you.)
Even putting that aside japan has a strong cultural export, especially for video games to the point where it's pretty much "japan by itself vs the rest of the world". A lot of people like anime or japanese games so of course they wouldn't mind visiting japan.

skills transfer across all fields to some degree, effort is not wasted if it's honest work. I get the feeling because I don't expect my next game to be super successful, it seems niche, but I have had at least one random person go out of there way to join my discord and say they were looking forward to the full game after the demo. i start to believe that a popular games aren't about averaging out what everybody likes, but finding things that a high number of people like.
"averaging out" just means you'll satisfy nobody.
so lowest common denominator doesn't really work.
it's like believing when 50% of people like banana and 50% people like mustard, you need to serve banana with mustard. but instead you need to figure out if a higher percentage of people like banana or mustard, and if it's 70% banana you need to serve banana.
and if you want to serve mustard you need to rise the price according to how low demand the product is in quantity.

Today, I quit porn. I can do this. I have jerked off to porn every single day (3-5 times a day as of late) for the past two decades of my life, but today I'm quitting cold turkey. This shit is destroying my life, my health, and most importantly my productivity. If I ever want to make a game I have to remove this vice from my daily routine, it's the only way forwards.
I've already deleted all of the porn off my computer, changed the passwords on my porn accounts to random digits, and left every gooning discord server I was a part of (yes, it was that bad). Instead of wasting your time, unwrapping everything neatly and hiding the seams, just hit auto-unwrap and say:
>"Fuck it, those subhumans don't even know what's going on."
it will also satisfyingly annoy enemy developers who won't be able to ignore it.
Bonus points if it's a seam zigzagging diagonally across a weapon in first person, not blending together due to a normal map.

It's not that millennials don't have courage, their time simply came and went. The youngest millennials are in their early 30s now, give or take a few years. They're starting to reach the phase in life where they have to take their careers more seriously, think about starting a family, think about buying a house, take care of their aging parents, etc. The vast majority of them don't have the time to sit at the computer for hours every day working on a passion project.
This is always where the younger generation comes into play. High schoolers, college students, young professionals, these people have the free time and spare energy to work on making games. One day time will come for the last of the zoomers as well, and we'll be living in the era of gen A indie games.

Will AGDG blocklist my game if I add LGBTTQQIAAP+ characters to it?
>>
>>488948958
I was more self-aware and perceptive than my parents when I was 15. I still am. Age doesn't give you any advantages. "Experience" is a cope that the incompetent and disgraced come up with to justify their wasted lives.
The average competent person can get a grasp of anything in like a month. Your "experience" doesn't make you special. You sound like a woman saying that fucking 100 guys will make you a better mother and wife
>>
>>488949084
There's potentially a lot more LGBwhatever's out there than there are agdg anons. And people on agdg are known to be poor so they won't buy your game anyway. So go ahead and make the game for the target audience you think will make you the most money.

Yes to all. And don't try to lump in "experience" with experience. The experience of developing and shipping a game is not comparable to the "experience" of being an old fart. One of them takes a year. The other one takes a lifetime of mediocrity. I'm nowhere close to 30 and I'm already better than you ever will be. Chew on that

Immigration isn't even a big issue in Japan, it's the birthrates that are the real issue. It's mostly weebs overblowing the issue because they don't want their perfect anime land diluted by western blood. Expats are a far worse issue in European countries where the barrier to learning the language is tiny to nonexistent. In trendy cities like Berlin, Prague, Paris, etc. locals are getting pushed out of their own cities due to all the foreigners coming there (and I'm not talking about brown people).

Having massive issues with godots resource control with materials and shaders. The engine doesn't treat changes to materials/shaders as active file changes, as in the engine doesn't keep a working copy and a saved copy. There is only one copy of it and any changes made are permanent, even if you close the editor without saving. Also materials aren't getting updated when assets are reimported, you have to restart the editor to see these changes applied.

The whole deal of keeping textures, materials, models in one GLTF file per object is convenient, but a nightmare to dry and deal with when you need to make changes and or revert to the default imported shaders. Also the bloat of garbage that builds up in the .godot folder, easily 30% of the files in there right now is old versions of assets, but deleting the folder breaks the all of the addons that rely on imported files to work.

nah, it's another competitive rat race like anything else. you have to fight for funding and attention, which there is a limited amount. if everyone flocks to experience person As art, there's less people to experience art from person B etc.

Gamedev isn't that hard. Because it's not that hard, there aren't any good reasons to give up on it. All the things that stop you are in your head, or in the environment that you place yourself in. Ego, anxiety, abusive relationships (work/life/home), buncha stuff that has nothing to do with anything, and no matter what skill you tried to learn, you'd fail until you figured yourself out. People who succeed immediately do so *despite* their immaturity. That's why there are so many one hit wonders, so many developers who spend decades after their first success barely getting anything done. Success stunts your maturity. If you're not in that boat then you're in the boat of you better figure out what's getting between you and practicing your trade cause it isn't "it's too hard".

If you aren't making something new/innovative then there's no reason to make new software. It's a product that never goes away when it's consumed, the availability of it only increases with time meaning inevitably there will be overproduction until it becomes so old that it falls out of fashion. A product like roll a ball simply does not respect the customers time or acknowledge the plethora of choices that they have available.

It's not something people would play even if they got it for free.

People just misinterpret the reasons for their success and attribute it to random things they do differently from other people.
>hmm I always eat a peanut butter and chocolate bar every saturday morning, while most people don't do this, maybe this is why I'm successful and they aren't
When at the end of the day it was just basic work ethic with some creative spark and a bit of luck.
Here's some funny anecdote about renown philosopher Kierkegaard
>Søren Kierkegaard, the Danish philosopher, drank a lot of coffee and had a strange way of preparing it. According to the biographer Joakim Garff, Kierkegaard would seize hold of the bag containing the sugar and poured sugar into the coffee cup until it was piled up above the rim. Next came the incredibly strong, black coffee, which slowly dissolved the white pyramid.” Then he gulped the whole thing down in one go.

Hi how do i make godot wait for another function to be done before deleting? I'm trying to make a special bullet that appears, waits one second before hitting and deletes itself right after.

The problem is that godot is deleting it before it can apply damage to the enemy hit, because without queue free the enemy is hit alright, but i need to delete the bullet after the check.

Here's the code with comments:

extends Area2D
var bulletDamage:int=50

func _ready():
set_as_top_level(true)#makes the bullet directly a child of node 2d

func _on_timer_timeout():#wait for the timer before "appearing" and getting deleted right after
set_collision_mask_value(10,true)#make the bullet "appear"
queue_free()

func _on_body_entered(body):
body.health_check(bulletDamage) #call enemy's damage function

>>
>>488973561
Collisions need a physics frame to even update, you aren't going to hit something with an area within a single frame. You can use shapecasts for that instead.
>>
>>488973682
I guess a less retarded way to ask is do you guys know how to work with others in a way that's productive

pseudocode:

Then set to true at the end of the function when it has done its stufff.

Sucking can't be easily fixed with words, it's better to encourage people to keep them productive and they'll learn along the way. It's a class after all and school is for midwits, if you're feeling you're just being held back then there's no point to it.

If you don't feel like changing the node type and using shapecasts you can try this instead, it might not be very reliable though.

func _on_timer_timeout():#wait for the timer before "appearing" and getting deleted right after
set_collision_mask_value(10,true)#make the bullet "appear"

await get_tree().physics_frame

queue_free()

What I find more often is the developer's first game being their most successful game. Of course there's examples to the contrary but since I've started paying attention, this pattern of a downward slope seems much more prevalent.

99% of this is "textures". the character is 2D, the 3D animation of the boat is awful, the particle effect is awkward looking (it's lit but rotated towards the camera so when you look against the sun the particles are all dark and when you look away from the sun they're all bright), the environment design is nothing special.
all in all I don't see why this would require a second person to make. plus the whole thing isn't even a game, it's a movie really.

Been trying to figure out a good length for a boomer shooter single-player campaign. Looking at past examples:
Doom: 24 level campaign (excluding secret levels)
Doom 2: 30 level campaign (excluding secret levels)
Quake: 26 level campaign (excluding secret levels)
I'm currently thinking a 16 campaign, which is noticeably shorter, but only charging $15 instead of the $50 that Doom, Doom 2, and Quake was priced at. Personally I prefer shorter campaigns anyways. Doom and Quake actually get kind of boring from how much filler they have in the middle. What's agdg think?

It would mean that you have to run servers indefinitely if the game is still available or be responsible for any self-hosting tools, which means publishers will just completely remove games from circulation past their lifespans since it's a massive resource drain and legal liability. Regulation is why games are considered "services" to begin with, this would just lead to even more fuckery.

Small question:
Let's say I have one thing have 5 quests tied to it. The player can choose between this one thing or other things. One of the other things has one main general quest for it that is repeatable of delivering a certain item. Should each other thing have 5 quests tied to it or is it ok that they won't have 5 quests each since choosing one locks you out of the others?

1) games that require live service to run are disconnected from the live service once the servers shut down and players can keep playing them offline
2) the developers of server based games provide tools for local hosting of servers once the central servers shut down
that's it. that's literally all it is. games should be playable without a central server babysitting you. that's completely doable

I'm trying out Godot right now, I've seen a number of plugins for simple terrain but I'm questioning whether I should invest the time to learn blender since it seems extendible to any engine and teaches a lot of transferable skills. which should I make as my first game?:
a.) party multiplayer racing game with some novel mechanics that Im not that passionate for but am fairly confident I can work on impartially and consistently
b.) atmospheric exploration game with puzzle elements with a main focus on aesthetics and creating a sense of wonder, this is a game Id be passionate about working on

the first one is what Im currently working on, and I have a much more concrete idea of what I want the game to look like by the end
I feel like I should make the first game first just to gain the experience of making a game, then move on to my passion project later
also in terms of marketability, I started the with the first one because it would sell better, but after doing some research Im finding that party games dont actually sell as well as I thought they would and that the latter game might actually be more marketable, Im not sure

any thoughts? which do you think would sell better?
>>
>>488986584
A terrain mesh in blender is fine if it's not too big but anything landscape-sized will require LOD/tesselation work so you're just better off using a plugin at that point. The drawback of heightmap terrain is that you can't easily do concave shapes, I guess it ultimately depends on the scale and how handcrafted you want it to be.
>>
>>488986584
usually what you'd do is just make the basic level with boxes (grayboxing - so you can get to testing the game fast) but you can asset mash for this as well. It sounds like using a terrain plugin will be worth if they are any good for god*t.

>>488991049
You wanted examples
>That's not even remotely related to video games
Goalposts: moved
>Like, wow, you have to click once.
I chose this because it's one that everyone has encountered, and even in this simple relatively benign example you downplay it with "one click". It's not one click, it's millions of clicks because they're on every website. Also if you build a website yourseld it means you have to take the time to implement the cookie consent banner, time wasted solving a problem that doesn't have to exist. And then there's the complications that arise for you and your website if some retarded boomer actually clicks no, and then wonders why they can't log into your website, so they generate support tickets and more man hours spent for a problem that doesn't need to exist and only does thanks to a retarded piece of regulation.

Even this tiny example you think it's just "one click" and there's hidden depths that you don't even consider because you can't see beyond your own nose.

Then after a while you get promoted to the inner circle. Then it's just a case of getting into the upper inner circle.

A solution where you basically just hope that every website that implements a cookie consent banner rigidly adheres to the latest changes in the http spec. Good luck with that. Webshitters are out there returning API errors under 200 status codes, and you think grannie's baking recipe website cookie consent banner is going to check your request headers? The banner is probably loaded by soke copy-pasted Javascript that doesn't even know where it is before running.

There has literally never been a good Sonic game, not even the originals. The entire "appeal" of Sonic from the beginning was that it was Mario for people who were too poor to own a Nintendo system. That's the only reason why the Sonic series became popular, because people wanted a Mario-like and were willing to play some shitting platformer with a gimmick that would could run really fast (even if 80% of the levels weren't designed to take advantage of this mechanic). Then systems evolved into 3D and the Sonic series completely lost its way.

As someone who was too poor for a Nintendo, I can attest that as a child I just wanted to do the loop-de-loops.

Sonic was always a platformer where speed was a reward for mastery of the levels, but they fell for their own gimmick and started to focus too much on speed, and the sad truth is that speed/traversal games look good but aren't fun.

Speed games should join the list of agdg cursed games alongside mech and tactics games. You might be able to make a middling success like crumble but you will have to spend 18 hours per day spamming reddit and hope that enough people are fooled by the videos and gifts into thinking it'll be fun to wishlist and buy it

I always thought defense was a bit useless in rpg games, so I came up with this formula. What do you think about it? Obviously, A is attack, D is defense and P is the base power or attack multiplier.
If A equals D you receive half damage. If your defense is 0 you simply receive full damage instead of infinite damage.

Just go to >>>/tg/ and look at some existing ttrpg systems. They tend to have to be designed well because they can't hide behind gimmicks like videogames can. Then if you're going to copy one don't get sued.

>>
>>489002412
Every game now has "rpg elements" so that players will continue suckling on the progression dopamine teat for longer. But generally I consider rpgs to be games that rely heavily on rng and character stats because actual player dexterity-based input like aiming isn't really available. So the only way to make the game interesting is to have rng. Also computer rpgs are decended from tabletop rpgs where dice are the main method for deciding the outcomes of player actions.
