This night, when I do my therapist-mandated self-esteem hypnosis, I managed to feel quite good and convinced for once.That's because I imagined cute Emeraude being the one telling the positive affirmations thingy. I saw a post theorizing that the Protagonist was also meddled with by Monika, especially in Act 2 like Yuri and Natsuki.The post mentioned how in Act 1, the Protagonist commented on things quite a bit, he talked more and thought more, and had a decent enough characterization, a bit generic yes but still decent enough for a visual-novel self-insert character.But then in Act 2 he progressively becomes more and more... quiet, he slowly stopped commentating, stopped talking, and stopped thinking, like he got lobotomized.The theory goes that since the Protagonist does have his independent personality traits, specifically for this his aloofness and usual laid-back attitude, that just like Monika heightened Sayori's depression, Natsuki's father's abuse, and Yuri's obsession, she heightened the Protagonist's "chillness" more and more until he became chronically apathetic like a walking empty corpse, since probably his personality was getting in the way of her and the Player much like the other girls. The theory also says that his character was probably deleted too, just after Natsuki's and Yuri's were, but I'm not so sure, unless Monika found a way go talk to the Player without needing the Protagonist as a middle man.The only problem is that he doesn't have a .chr file so it's dubious she could "edit" him, but Plus does imply she more or less made him so editing him probably wouldn't be an issue either.I know you guys probably don't care about the (previously) faceless self-insert character but I think it adds to the game and Monika's character if this theory tracks, so I wonder what do you guys think?

What Monika would fiddle with when it comes to him is that aspect of being the outside observer. Making him more and more passive and observant without his own independent "character" getting in the way, in favor of allowing "You" to fully take over and assume direct control. To go any deeper into it, I'd compare this to how Undertale and Deltarune plays with the idea of the self-insert player avatar, and the separation between them and you, and where exactly that line is drawn. But DDLC keeps it very very surface level, so as to put the focus primarily on the Dokis.

It's like you've got a lot of subtle differences in your vowels that other languages don't distinguish and that are hard to write with the latin alphabet. In the beginning, au, aux and eau all sounded like a short O to me, but after I got it, I started hearing the differences. People dismiss a lot of french spelling as unneccessary silent letters, but they change the sounds around them, even if you don't hear them for themselves.One thing I never got the hang of are accents - I know you have them to mark when you change the default stress in a word, but I never got the feel where the default would've been. Coming from a language characterized by hard attacks and deliberately chopping words and sentences into pieces, french sounds alien in a flowy and singsongy way that I can't really grasp. So I just throw in accents wherever and hope lol
