I removed the dead links and the KSG map because it was a mess even when it was actually used, and now it's just clutter. The Master Pastebin has a lot of dead links contained within it too, but that'd be a whole day's work to get through. It's such a shame, links to a lot of old fics are missing now.

Fitting that the OP is Lilly since I was doing my first re-read since 2017 and am about finished re-reading Lilly's route, and I remember some people back around the time KS originally came out being extremely critical of the way Lilly's route ends with Hisao rushing through the airport and the two of them living happily ever after in a storybook romance, and now I'm wondering how her route may have been received if it ended with her leaving and Hisao reflecting on it? Could the writers have pulled that off? Would it have been well-received? Would it even be a good idea in the first place? Something to chew on.

I honestly prefer the later acts of the game, not because Act 1 is badly written but rather because some of the choices that lock you into certain girls arent very obvious. Getting Emi route accidentally is very easy and you probably wont even realize you are on it until the end of act if its your first time. Meanwhile Rin feels hard to get without some sort of guide even if you are aiming for her and while i think Shizune vs Lilly/Hanako was handled really well getting either Lilly or Hanako boils down to a single choice of going into town or library on one of the days. I still think they did a great job introducing all the girls though and giving each of them unique and fun scenes while keeping a good balance of scenes between all of them.

This reread is taking me back-- I was nearing the end of college the first time I read it and it rocked me, then. I only started reading it on a whim because there was a buzz about it on an old forum I used to go to and I was expecting to have something to laugh at but instead I was genuinely moved. I have to confess that I made the terrible mistake of saving Shizune's route for last but hindsight is as always 20/20. Rin was my favorite then and I think she still is now, but I had more of an appreciation for Emi this time around than I did back then. I've finished her route and Lilly's and now I'm starting on Hanako's route. I'll end with Rin's route and skip Shizune's route, that or I could dig up the alpha version again and read her route in that. The final Shizune route was a last minute change, right?

They were! /vg/ was created maybe a month or two after the release of Katawa Shoujo, almost specifically for it. We dealt with a lot of other thread regulars flaming us because it wasn't a real video game or something.

I've been doing my replay so slowly, a few scenes a day and not every day, so I'm still in my first route, Lilly's. I'm seeing it in an entirely new way this time around. I'm really curious what I'll think of the other routes again. You're remembering the Shizune route correctly too, and I don't think there's much shame in skipping it. You could always check out Summer's Clover as well if you haven't yet, it's written by Lilly's writer and I think it's rather good.

Go easy on yourself, injuries can compound quickly and leave you unable to get exercise for a while, defeating any gains you might have made. Good job working on it though, that's the main thing. You might be exaggerating about being fat, but if not, walking is plenty good when you're getting started, and much easier on your legs/knees. You know, I remember feeling this way when I chose her route on release on followed it through. Hers was the first I tried and I felt like Hisao was walking through a minefield the whole time; so much tension over seemingly nothing and the whole time you're wishing for this poor girl to snap out of it and enjoy life for once. maybe this is like this so that you don't feel guilty for her being forever alone when you don't date her but it makes me think that hanako really didn't need much help to begin with

like the final plot point of her route is that thing that you could see from the start of her route which was that you were kinda pitying her almost acting as if you were saying oh you poor thing which is only ever adressed at the very end

It's a bit vague what exactly Hisao suffers from, but judging from his symptoms and the description of "arrhythmia", I believe we have the same or a very similar condition. Something under the umbrella of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome. It sounds scary, but medication makes it manageable. I might give it a shot but the drop in quality is really noticeable right away. I recall that the Shizune route in the final version was thrown together at the last minute and if that's the case, I think it shows. The dialogue is lacking in any finesse, there's no real conflict for most of it, and you only get a single choice to make near the end (and the correct answer couldn't be more obvious). The alpha version was a hell of a lot better and I only wish it could have been retooled to be worked into the final game. (I'm dying to talk about it a little more in detail but I don't want to spoil something that I don't know if many people have actually read compared to the finished game).

I have a great many recommendations, my dear anon. I'm not sure of your taste, but if you prefer unflavoured tea it's difficult to go wrong with a Darjeeling. A complex and smooth flavour profile that changes on its second brew. Lapsang Souchong is a terrific choice if you want something bolder, it has an ashy quality to it that I love in the morning.

In regards to flavoured black blends, anything with vanilla is gorgeous. I'm fond of rose as well, and I've recently found a strawberry cream black tea I can't get enough of. What I recommend more than anything else is to go to a tea store and ask the most certainly lovely clerk to try a few teas that catch your fancy, or that they recommend. Experiment!

Late but i feel like giving my 2 cents on this. In my eyes, the Hanako route works that way due to the context of her character. The other girls have 0 problem socializing, making friends and the sort. The Hanako we meet initially is a very fragile person that literally flunks out, out of panic. If the route went down the same way as the other girls, meaning that you get the boyfriend+girlfriend thing going and the other half of the route be how to deal with all this it wouldn't be true to her character. Now granted im not familiar with the other routes much to see Hanako's progression there but ima play devil's advocate and say its probably harder to achieve that for her when she's the main focus, hence why we have Lilly's intervention that i imagine it went down like this:

Is the route perfect then? Sadly no. There's a bit of a contradiction where you initially have to give her special treatment but later on you get owned for doing exactly that which is an eye-roller for sure. Should the route had given us more? Absolutely, while its last parts are nothing short of heartwarming it does feel like we're just getting started into something great. I hope its not personal bias or it being relatable so much to me but i believe her route mostly does a good job given her character and what surrounds her, its an emotional rollercoaster which understandably some people wont get/like, but for others it speaks to them, at least it does to me.

Hanako seems significantly happier and less fearful in Lilly's route than her. She seemed to warm up to Hisao more easily in Lilly's route. She seemed far more comfortable when her role was more akin to that of a daughter than a lover, she wasn't pressured into sex by the perceived threat of Hisao leaving her (I don't think it was rape, but it was nonetheless fucked up and Hisao definitely took advantage of her vulnerability and desperation, it wasn't initiated out of love, but she gave in out of fear that Hisao would leave her. To that effect, the track "Painful History" being played during the scene instead of the usual "To Become One" indicates that the act wasn't really done out of love, but rather, out of fear and isolation, and Hanako didn't even seem to enjoy it, unlike Hisao.)
Lilly's neutral ending is soul-crushing because I can't imagine how Hanako would cope with her absence. I don't even want to imagine what would happen to Hanako after learning that Lilly would never be there to comfort her again. Lilly's neutral ending is Hanako's nightmare ending.

In Lilly's route only three choices matter and those are telling the truth about various topics. Tell the truth all three times you get the good ending. Avoid the subject once or more and you get the neutral ending
