>>
bumping this masterpiece
>>
I wonder if there's anything like Yoyo Games' Sandbox or classic Gamejolt. The former doesn't exist, and the latter looks like shit now.
>>
yeah I'm making no money and that is fine, the wife and kids will have to put up with poverty.
>>
What are good games to make as a hobby instead of games with too much long stretches of time where you do boring stuff?
>>
>>491797098
Platformers. Puzzle games are around too.
>>
I am still pissed that Gamejolt has gotten as bland as it has design wise.
Also that the Sandbox is gone.

Layton puzzles

depends what you like working on. for some people, its designing platform levels. for others its making game music.
so find what you like doing the most, and make a game that involves doing that a lot.

that way, you can make the parts you don't like doing relatively simple and spend most of your time having fun.

Not him but is 2d the only way? Are there any easy ways to get into making 3D platformers? Also if not, how easy would it be to make a 2d castlevania clone if you are already a software developer?
>>

What is Sandbox?
>>
>>491836858
Yoyo Games' answer to letting you release smaller, non-commercial games for Gamemaker. It was a really good system, and even allowed you to distribute game resources too.

why gamedev as a hobby over anything else
>>
>>491844549
It's a very powerful act of creation.
>>
So, you guys ever heard of Gamemaker 8.2.
>>
>>491849368
Is that better than 7
>>
>>491849485
Unless you preferred 7 over 8 for some reason, yes. Leagues better. Also, it's free.

I'd better wait for v6.782 master piece
>>

This is strange, there's already agdg. If anything we need /pgdg/ (pro game dev general) and keep it exclusive to devs who've just release or right about to release their game.
>>
>>491854881
It was made as a joke like 2 threads ago thanks to a typo or some shit.
Thought I'd get some use outta it though.
>>
>>491854881
The pros won't leave, so us hobbyists can leave. We don't need to talk about money and marketing here. It's a free space for any minor game dev venture.

negative progress is when you break something and have to go back and do it over
i love negative progress, you could say it's my main talent in gamedev
>>
>>491878167
you should start unit testing anon. or at least use git.
>>
>>491774697
whats the difference between an amateur and hobbyist game developer?
