Just realised they could have done Metagross, Garchomp and Dragonite as Physic, Dragon and Flying instead so they’re not complete dupes but they decided not to. Only Lance out of the three of them is a specialist trainer (with Steven using all the “earthy” types) and even then he’s a Dragon user in the sense of Dragon Pokemon not necessarily Dragon type Pokemon (as he explained himself). They even could have kept their type halo and just had coverage.

Nice thing about Arc Steven over NC Blue is that his flinching move is single target so you can do your turn denials one at a time. Blue forces everyone to flinch at once which wastes a lot of possible bonus turns.
