Did you know? Video games contain dozens if not hundreds of different locations that you can take pictures of! Each one of the games areas presents their own visual presentation to the player. So when you're in a concrete service tunnel that's falling apart with the walls getting blown to smithereens, you're gonna have lots of smoke and fog and dust filling up the space from the explosions and debris, which adds to the storytelling presentation.But once you make it out of that tunnel, and the smoke clears, you're up in Sector 1 on the plate, and there's no "smoke and fog" to be seen. Now there's fires raging, you're moving your way through rubble. The smoke now is black and billows upwards, instead of densly pooling in a very small corridor.Throughout the video game, your party of characters will travel through many different locations at different times of day. Sometimes in those areas, there will be smoke and fog effects. Sometimes, there won't be.Needless to say, none of the smoke effects have anything to do with the games internal rendering resolution, it's texture memory, or the framerate the game is running at. The dev who's making the PS4 emulator just to play Bloodborne should just quit since there's objectively no way to improve on sub 1080p resolution and sub 30fps framerate. Like 10x power spike, and the loop of exploring and fighting the different hunts and uncovering more storylines hidden around Gran Pulse is a nice reward for the players who make it that far, especially if you kept up with datalogs and are invested in the world and mythos they are building.If you play it today, Xbox is a great option, but PC with the patches and mods applied is the best possible experience. I really like the Chrystarium Redone mod that moves the abilities around for leveling up and makes the 6 roles available as soon as possible. Combined with some of the Hard mode mod features, the game is actually a truly excellent RPG battle system that is flashy, fast and punchy. The thing I wish the game had more than anything is 'Change leader' in the Commands menu like XIII-2. That would make the game perhaps my favorite kind of ATB battle system.

I've always loved FF, even the relatively shittier titles like 13. X is actually almost the perfect FF title and I think that has a lot to do with how its a PS2 game. It has that wistful melancholy feel that for some reason is really common on PS2 games. I think the 6th gen had this thing where VA/character stories were not this narcissistic crap that picked up momentum with 7th gen and can really be seen in 13 (Lightning unnecessarily acting like a cunt most of the time but also dumb shit like Hope's faggoty cuck behaviour) and 15 with Noctis being a whiny little fag. Tidus is actually the most relatable and human character I think I've played in almost any game.Somehow we got away with characters/writing on FFX that were allowed to just "be". There is just a nostalgic beautiful feel to it, really hard to describe but I think most anons will intuitively recognize once they compare X to 13 and definitely when they compare it to 15. Mechanics-wise, it's okay I guess, just a "normal" FF. sphere grid is kinda funky but once you get used to it it's not that bad. The battles are also pretty nostalgic. You can see them doing the final iteration of classic FF battles before they go over to the fabula nova style (I don't hate fabula nova's battle style, it's just very different).On the whole, I'm loving it more than I expected so that's a good thing.

Then the PS5 came out, and for a long time, its only games were literally just ports of PS4 games that people likely already played. And then when the PS5 started actually having games... those games were remakes of PS3 games. And then when the PS5 started having more games than just PS4 games and remakes of PS3 games... they were games that were coming to PC anyway, which I think a lot of people converted to instead of getting a PS5. The people who didn't convert to PC might have purchased a Switch, because it is a handheld, cheap console that has lots of exclusives. This is a much more worthwhile purchase than a PS5, which was (is?) likely nearing the end of its lifespan by the time it started releasing games that were "worth it".

I hope that mainline Final Fantasy never goes back to being turn-based or ATB, and if it does, it needs to radically innovate on the standard turn-based/ATB system. If you think differently, you are a Dragon Quest fan, you are not a Final Fantasy fan. You might also be a Team Asano fan rather than a FF fan. This is a very common mistake on /ffg/.
