Thinking about Amnesia, I remember that game being utterly obnoxious about choices. You get locked on the normal end and it's so strict about it if you're not using a guide. Half the choices are super counterintuitive too. Blonde was the only route that I got the true end on without resetting and I really liked the guy so that's probably unfair.Tbh I don't think I'm suited for Otome games period. Ryukishi is a poor writer who ripped off all of his best ideas from Meteo, and an even poorer artist who shits out ham-hands people can only defend by liking it ironically.

It's because they've had enough exposure to him to see through his tricks and stop falling for his brand of spectacle and sophistry. And yes, his terrible, childish text is part of the problem too - there are parts of Higurashi that have such embarrassingly poor writing that they're used as copypasta on 2ch.I don't know how the western fanbase continues to put up with Ryuukishi, and I honestly feel that it's damaging to the community as a whole to continue to obsess this much over a single work so long after the fact. The amount of Umineko discussion is one of the reasons people who read untranslated eroge feel so disconnected from the broader western fanbase, and it's not hard to see how stifling this level of obsession can be if you take a step back.

The common route feels like a bunch of disconnected highly repetitive episodes, like watching a bad seasonal anime, and then the routes just jump straight into the characters fucking with minimal romance, there are some really jarring cuts to h-scenes like they finished the h-scene but couldn't find a spot to put it in the story so they just threw it in there, then the plot is the same on every route. The plot isn't particularly interesting, the fights aren't great, it's just a mess.Also tying it to Ayakashibito right at the end is some hack shit.

None of the characters seem to be interesting at all which is crazy because Uta 1 was still years before and managed to have a much more compelling cast of characters and setting.
