I'm trying out winter mods for SoC and in every one of them the snow on the ground is way too shiny. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I tried editing the weather files to lower sun values but it didn't help.

The first pic is from one of the winter mods for SoC on ModDB. I think it's from the old winter mod uploaded by PsyWarVeteran. The textures in this pic are from STALKER Winter Edition 3.0. I just extracted the textures and put them into SoC.

Here's my schizo flow

Only 3 types of food IS REALISTIC
The stars just so aligned that all the characters player met had only the same canned goods found in an abandoned warehouse, and all of them were provided with bread by produced somewhere in the zone. Yes, this is absolute logical and real. But in any case, you need to add at least one type of water.

Vanilla weapon texture is absolutely real. The stars were so aligned that these types of weapons with such non-standard painting ended up in the zone. And it's real world. Metal part of AKs are really pale gray, not deep black. This is just powder paint applied to a primer, there is no reason to do serial painting.

Absolutely all maps in the trilogy are real, the noosphere teleported and created them this way, there is no need to change the map towards realism. And maps in trilogy is only territory in zone, It is impossible to get to all other places in the zone, no need to add new fictional ones, truck cemetery and meadows in coc do not make any sense, soothe your thirst for adding another map. Same with factions. Same with weapons. Same with armor. Etc etc.

Oh my fucking God. Guys, disregard everything I just said. The textures are fine, the only problem here is that I'm fucking retarded.

I had static lighting turned on this whole time, that's why the textures look so fucked. I switched to full dynamic lighting and it fixed everything. Excuse me while I bang my head against the wall.

Replaying the trilogy before S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 so I'm refreshed on the lore/characters and I don't just want to watch a youtube creature give me the five minute refresh (anomalous dugout is still cool tho)

Finished SoC. Pure vanilla playthrough, no mods, no ZRP, master difficulty. Went with the canon ending.

Finished Clear Sky. SRP with Improved Weapon Ballistics. Randomized pre-filled stashes so I have an incentive to hunt around the zone for items I need. Master difficulty.

Starting Call of Pripyat. After some deliberation I have decided to do the Misery mod, because I had already done two games on master difficulty and wanted a different experience for the third game, particularly an experience that will fuck my shit up. Also I figure Misery will slow me down enough to where completion of the trilogy will be closer to the release date of Stalker 2, but I've never played Misery, so I don't know what to expect.

Thoughts on replaying these games for the first time in over a decade:

SoC is great, I didn't want to mod it too much so I could experience the original as close as possible, and it doesn't really need mods to hold up.

Clear Sky is fantastic right up until Limansk when it becomes Call of Duty: Chort. Taking out a helicopter with a fucking rifle was stupid. A definite step down from how great Clear Sky is in the first three quarters. Particularly liked figuring out faction wars, and finding ways to traverse garbage without getting robbed. A lot more random shit seems to occur in Clear Sky, which is whiplash when the last part of the game starts. Joined Freedom because it seemed more challenging for faction wars. Duty fucking stomps everyone without you needing to do much it seems.

Just finished the install of Misery 2.2, and what a shitshow. Having never messed with any of the Misery mods, I can't believe they released this. Crashes repeatedly on new game about ten feet from the starting area, and information regarding it considers this normal. Uninstall.

Played with getting 2.1 and Gunslinger working instead, but that is a no-go on linux it seems. One day I'll try it on this computer, but I am doing the original trilogy on a linux laptop, and the Misery+Gunslinger repack does not want to render on the screen, so it looks like I'll try original Misery, and failing that, vanilla. I'll let you know how early Misery is.

Xiani's Freeplay is the oldest pure freeplay mod and it shows. The random stash feature could probably be ported over to another mod.
Fun fact: CoC uses smart_terrains in the power plant level which are from Xiani's Freeplay.

As for getting inside the Bar, as far as I understand, it says you should get access inside later in the story, after getting docs from both Medpribor and the Dark Valley.

Yes. I took footstep audio files from another winter mod on ModDB. They were in stereo so I mixed them down to mono. For some reason they didn't have any metadata so I fixed that as well.

The merge in the OP has the autumn aurora 2 textures in it. Repo has the absolute textures and structures so it looks more colorful/vanilla-esqe. The ui in the merge is also the aa2 ui and the inventory menu is different as well. Repo's ui is completely vanilla. The merge has OWR + Arsenal where I believe Repo is just Arsenal. There is no feature list for the merge unlike the repo edition has so it isn't to easy to compare the two but those are the obvious ones off the top.

I know that to make vanilla SoC use ammo on belt you need to open gamedata\config\weapons\weapons.ltx, find section "ammo_base" and uncomment the "belt = true" line.
So, in your in your case, you need to comment it back out, or set to "false" maybe. Though, I'm not sure whether it will make weapons start using ammo from inventory directly.
If it doesn't, try also adding "g_ammunition_on_belt off" to user.ltx.

You were right about weapons.ltx but for some weird reason it only worked to a certain extent. Ammo can't be selected for the belt anymore but the game doesn't recognize it in my inventory. The ammo on belt thing might be scripted. In pic rel I have 90 rounds of ammo in my inventory but the game only recognizes the ammo already loaded in the gun.
Adding "g_ammunition_on_belt off" to user.ltx didn't work either, the game reverted the change when I quit the game.

simple way to change this is to open gamedata\scripts\ammo_ctrl.script
and change every ammo section in the local ammo_types table at the top to say false instead of true.

this will only work on new ammo picked up, so starting a new game might be worth it

you can do the same thing with \scripts\grenade_ctrl.script for the grenades.

Really late reply, but I'd say Misery 1.2 is genuinely an alright mod (although you might want to install Absolute Nature on top to make it less horribly brown).

It doesn't have any of the ridiculous inventory bloat or stupid new mechanics of 2.0, it's just regular CoP with a few new guns, much deadlier combat, and just an overall difficulty boost (which is much needed, given how easy base CoP is - the impulse to make the game harsher was correct, but Misery 2,0 just went way too far)

MEGA has a thing when they delete all the data in your storage if you don't log in in a long time. The directory structure stays the same, but all the files inside get erased, hence the empty folders.
This process is not instantaneous and is quite easy to avoid, they send you a bunch of warning e-mails before that and only if you ignore all of them and stay logged off, they delete everything you've uploaded.

I dunno if you've had this problem with Misery, but I've had it with 2.0 and now even 1.2, where I have to start the exe multiple times in order for the game to launch. Each time I start the exe it creates an instance of "xrengine" in my control panel, up to however many times I start the exe in order for the game to finally launch. Maybe 5 times, 8 times, 10 times, it seems random, and I have to terminate the running exes in control panel every time. I found some reports of this issue but no real solutions or causes. Never had this issue when playing call of pripyat even with some mods installed into it like swr or the absolutes and atmosfear.

I've done it both ways, I don't think it matters if I terminate the process or not, the exe will simply work sometimes randomly, whether there is 10 exes running simultaneously or only one. I can still play it though, it's just annoying and unusual.

Just change the "amplitude" values under the [bobbing_effector] section in effectors.ltx to 0 and put the file in gamedata/configs/misc.
Maybe change $game_data$ value in fsgame.ltx to "true" as well, if it's set to "false" and that's why your game doesn't register edited files, I don't know.

Changing the starting location in SoC is surprisingly easy. Turns out the player is spawned through the all.spawn. At first I thought it was so strange that the player is spawned into the game just like an NPC but in hindsight it makes complete sense for this janky ass engine.

Truth be told I haven't played it since release, but I remember a few parts I absolutely hated like the part where you get robbed and even if you get your equipment back you lost all your money and I remember the ending being really fucking hard. I liked the maps a lot, and it made me like Freedom since SoC never really let you team up with them since you were kind of predisposed to helping Duty since when you entered the area you get that quest to help them wipe out Freedom. I was a stupid teenager at the time and thought that was a linear kind of sequence.

NPC squads often change their goals and direction of movement on gameload, maybe in your case mercs, who weren't near you at the time, just decided to go to the Depot instead of the checkpoint and so you never met.
Although, I've also had some strange things happening with a-life in CotZ, like how when you're fighting bloodsuckers and they go invisible when you quicksave, when you load they may just completely vanish from the game. It is a problem if the map and the game itself is designed around quest marker and compass. And it is a problem when lazy game designers think they can get away with shitty and forgettable level design because you're given markers to "help" you navigate the game world = force you to navigate it according to devs assumptions. A 3-D environment should be navigated in 3-D, if devs rely more on compass and quest marker than on environment itself then they flatten the game and then I don't know why they're not just making a 2-game. Exploration has always been a part of Stalker but a fucking quest marker is the antithesis to doing things in your own way and in your own time. I really hope GSC have not forgotten their roots.

I wanted to go back to traders before i went to cnpp but i kept randomly dying (just falling over suddenly) and there were no indicators saying something is wrong with me. Maybe it just kills you if you dont go to pripyat. Also the blue/green color was from nigh vision mixed with flashlight. Also i dont remember my gun being left handed or in the center. The game randomly did that i think. Gun models are nice but some dont work. You need a crosshair. At least for my version.

for example, tasks_garbage.xml has a task "gar_kill_boars"
which has

There are a few different versions floating about. The original was ass and had dumb cutscenes. Director's Cut removed some of them and improved some things. SoC's PDA UI is the best, with the animations, encyclopedia with images, quests, contacts... It is improvable by all means but they downgraded it in every new game by some reason, CS is just boring and CoP is fucking cancer, the dialogue and the inventory is fucking AIDS.
For HoC i would just do SoC's PDA with a modernized gui (10 years have passed so it's understandable they try to make it as polished as possible) something like a gentoo linux rice and add details like the little animations in SoC and the physical buttons for the controls instead of controller inputs, God i wish they fix it for the pc version.

I just fucking closed a window with "vetnik tss" vk that had a UI leak of a mission screen of the pda. It looks nice, better than the shit they showed us in the trailers, more soc-like than cs/cop task list trash.
For a leak it looks rather great except for 1 fucking thing and that is the xbox gamepad buttons on pc are replaced with keyboard keys instead of buttons you have to press like in soc, genocide incoming.

It's a mod called Save and Protect: Killer. The mod itself is pretty shit but while playing it I got the idea that it could serve as a good base for another mod, since it's very desolate and has few spawns. So I started making small edits like removing the hardcore combat and restoring the vanilla HUD. From there it snowballed into me building my own mod on top of it.

Mind that the Bandits you join in CS are not just a collection of every dishonest person in the Zone, nor some well-organized Zone-wide mafia. You simply join Yoga's gang that operates in Garbage. Why wouldn't members of this gang put skull patches on their clothes?
It was always supposed to be so bandits in the game are parts of different bands with little relation to one another. Even in CoP there are Sultan's gang, Jack's gang, Shishak's gang. All of them belonging to a single "Bandit" faction is just a game limitation.
The same thing is true for Free Stalkers. The "Loners" faction you join in CS is also simply a small group of stalkers in Cordon under the leadership of Valerian, and not a faction combining all stalkers in the Zone.
Orest with his guys from Agroprom or the diggers from the Flea Market have no connection to them apart being assigned to the same "facton" in the game's code.

This I agree with, they could've made separate factions for those who actually take part in the war and random stalkers/bandits. Even have them share the same name, but make the latter have no patches in UI windows, how they did with the Scar's "mercenary" faction and NPC mercs.
They did make separate factions for NPCs and the player like "dolg" and "actor_dolg", for reasons I still don't fully understand, so it wouldn't be hard to do the same for this.
