So would you really be surprised that people end up being more attached to a Digimon develops as a character throughout the show instead of generic monsters like Shellmon and Seadramon? Ghost Game isn't Yokai Watch, it's Kitaro. I personally thought it was pretty good, although I understand the complaints. It was silly of the staff to deliberately avoid having much plot for dumb reasons, but it was somehow one of the best looking and directed Digimon series overall, and some of the episodes were pretty good regardless of their episodic nature, and it was funny how they basically took throwaway setting details from the Digimon Encyclopedia and made whole episodes based on them. It's like if someone made a horror anime about Pokemon based on the hilarious Pokedex entries that felt noncanon.
