I think this is interesting because, through the years she had to see her partner die over and over again countless times then eventually kill her. Also she split our original selves up and we were born due to it, in a way venat is quite literally our mom.

Ryne being Mini-filia and her arc with Thancred being another goodbye to Minfilia after 3.1/3.4 helps the player understand her. Emet was around for two patches, even if SHB gave a deep dive into his reasons where before he was a flamboyant theater kid, Exarch being Graha absolutely carries the character and he wouldn't have resonated as well if it was someone completely original. Lyna and Feo Ul are pretty good for being fresh. Dulia too, but Nazz is basically a reluctant Cid and the player is meant to speculate about them being reflections of each other.DT gives you a ton of characters completely fresh while also wanting, and failing, to give Krile room to shine and trying to crutch on Scions existing to help as well despite none being the focus. DT is kind of unique in this regard because usually new characters presence is linked to previously introduced characters. Horsefart was ARR, Aymeric and Ysayle were 2.X, Estinien and Edmont were new since Estinien is nothing like the DRG quests. For SB, Yugiri was someone we knew since 2.X as well, and Lyse despite not being the old Yda punch bimbo was already steering toward a less comic relief character during 3.4 and 3.5. It's definitely something that isn't impossible or truly hard, but when pretty much every important character to DT was introduced in the expansion itself, it's sort of easy to see how newbie writers fumbled it for themselves.

Im stupid but I feel like DT has a similar problem the mcu has. The main story is over, the story built up from the very beginning has reached its end. We beat the ascians for the most part, beat zodiark, beat hydaelyn, beat what caused the fall of the ancient civilization, hell we even know what caused the craziness that led to the fall and it turned out to be a being we beat multiple raids ago. The main story of xiv was that of the ascians, the ancients, the wol. The main story of the mcu was that of Thanos, the infinity stones, and Tony stark. Those stories are over. Finished. Completed. Nothing left to explore. So everything else feels like a side quest that's less interesting as we went to the literal edge of time and space. There's no going beyond that, they can't raise the scales further, yet they still tried adding super "important" threats when it's just not a threat compared to the shit we dealt with before. The story is done. We need a new main cast entirely not just partially.
