Is there a comprehensive summary of AC3's plot anywhere?
I understand the big picture, but a lot of the little details are unclear to me. Especially around the relationship between Rena and Dision, or how Nemo can access memories (via ENSI? or was Rena sublimated in that story branch?), etc.

I'm a total plane game newfag (I played Crimson Skies as a kid 15 years ago and that's it, then some planes in Battlefield/Battlefront) and just got AC7. I found expert controls to be more fun but they also gave me a headache after a while due to not having the muscle memory of not moving the left-right stick all the time, which means I was constantly doing barrel rolls. Especially after using noob controls during my 1st playthrough. So I used steam input to rebind the controls:
>left stick up-down is normal (pitch) but left-right is now yaw
>bumpers (previously yaw) are now for rolling
>left stick press enables autopilot and realigns the plane if I fuck up
Now I don't get a headache anymore since I don't roll on accident. Anyone else likes rebinding controls?
>>
>>497172158
The only thing I rebind when needed is making sure that brakes and acceleration go on the triggers.
>>
>>497172158
I mean, whatever works for you, but in general you don't really use yaw, while rolling is one of the three most important controls.

RKT is pretty good in naval missions in AC7. Deals huge damage and reloads quickly, and is also just fun to use. People went too harsh on it.
>>
>>497199480
rktls would be a lot better if you could single fire rockets instead of being locked into a multi shot salvo
same for the precision guided rocket pods, they're useless because you can only lock onto a single target per salvo

Were the Geopelias in the GR ending of Ace Combat 3 just Simon having a laugh / testing Nemo? I used to assume they were a Neucom or Ouroboros contingency plan that the simulation accurately predicted/portrayed, but the idea that it's just Simon throwing 8 superfighters at you to see how you respond maybe also because he's mad you picked GR, given how happy he seems if you go with the Neucom > Ouroboros ending is growing on me.

Man I wish the long score attack missions had checkpoints. I'd even trade in half or more of my points if it meant I didn't find myself losing everything because i clipped the top of a frigate or got too acclimatized to missile warnings like a dumbass in the last 30 seconds.
>>
>>497306052
I personally liked the score attack missions like M06 and M11 precisely because they did not have a checkpoint followed then by some unfun scripted bull. You have objective and conditions and from there on you're free to execute within those parameters.
>>
>>497306826
Oh, I don't want anything scripted added. Mission 8 is like that - part 1 is a total blast is and part 2 drags by comparison. I'd just throw in some kind of partial-credit system if you screw up - maybe checkpoints around each base/area if you destroy 100% of their targets, plus a score penalty for using them. Just some token reward - which is a similar effect to how using checkpoints in a regular mission will usually destroy your S rank.

Mantis get. The requirements are esoteric af sometimes. Would be nice if beating missions on better ranks would unlock more ''intel'' giving hints on what you need to do etc. Or unlock an intel file so you don't ''have to'' but you can. And / or make it so that replaying and beating different sub objectives unlocks boni like the aforementioned, and also concept arts etc.

I wonder what Erusea's actual war-aims were in AC4 and AC7.
Did they intend to conquer all of Usea in 4, or just force a peace treaty on ISAF where presumably Erusea'd keep San Salvacion and Stonehenge? Similarly in 7: Conquer Usea, or just hold the space elevator and then truce, probably with a deal that Osean forces leave the continent?

(Not that it'd be unrealistic for Erusea itself to be confused and to adapt their aims upwards after initial successes, then get confused when falling back. Especially in 4, since ISAF technically declared war on them for grabbing San Salvacion...)
>>
6 plays the best. Throw in some Zero stuff and you have the perfect foundation.
>>
>>497405526
In AC4, they were in need to find a solution to refugee crisis after asteroid impact. So mostly territory and resource gains, especially after most of Usean countries said them to fuck off during crisis.

I really dislike the rank scoring of this mission, it encourages you to go for the ballast tanks and ignore a good boss fight.
>>
>>497453571
I tried a lot of different things, aiming for the SAMs and CIWS first, blowing up the railguns, targeting the VLS once that came out, but I always ended up dragging it out for too long and making a mistake that either resulted in me hitting the water or getting instakilled by a missile barrage/railgun volley.
Going for the ballast tanks quickly sorta bit me in the ass in the final phase though, the CIWS was still active so most of my shots at the core wouldn't go through until I'd disabled those.

Time seems to matter a lot more than score because I can do the bare minimum to complete the mission and get an S rank as long as I focus on the objectives but if I try to fight I'll get a B. Doesn't really matter but it feels odd that the game is calling me a dumbass for actually engaging with it.

>>
>>497405526
I feel like 7 was originally meant to have Trigger defect to Erusea. It'd probably have made more sense if we saw the war from their POV.
>>
>>497411949
Preach it brother!
>>
>>497560943
I've always figured they planned on having a branching mission structure where you could either end up fighting for the Eruseans or the Oseans, a lot of the early trailers seemed to emphasize that aspect.
>>
>>497560567
I dunno man, the F-15C fleet feels like it's been held together with hopes and prayers post-2020 considering how many airframes got taken apart to sustain the ANG wings because they literally got flown to hell and back!
>>
>>497561312
I would've happily settled for a Spare campaign. It feels like the comms blackout section of the story was made with them in mind.

>>497561428

>>
>>497560943
No way in hell this was the case. WE get the Belkan POV in Zero, doesn't mean Cipher was going to defect. And Eruseans are shown to be disgusting war criminals over and over, why would you ever defect?

I wonder why I feel nice and relaxed while playing some of the games but not others. Playing Ace Combat 4,5 and 7 makes me feel like I'm sitting with a friend to have a talk while playing Zero or Project Wingman feels like having an elevator conversation with someone I barely know and who doesn't like the way I dress.
It isn't even consistent with time spent with them as I've only played 4 and 5 a handful of times while it's been at least a dozen for Zero and probably 20+ for PW and AC 7.
It also happens with other games series where I can feel welcome from the beginning while their other entries feel hostile no matter how much I play them with the same inconsistency.
>>

Why does it look all fucked up? Like, I'd suspect it was AI it it wasn't for the fact that it's too consistent to be such.

Playing AC3 with this plane I just manage to do something I have never done before and most likely will never be able to do again. I had one plane locked on with another flying with it so I just emptied all 6 of the micro missiles onto that one plane. It took out that plane and had 4 just free flying now the other plane started to turn at the moment the other one died. The other plane made a turn at that moment
Yeah you guessed it the other mook turned right into my free flying missiles and killed itself without me having a lock on it.
Very satisfying double kill that was

You're going to be talking about the military career options with your recruiter well before you're even shipped off to basic.
And you need to be an officer in the air force already to be qualified fir the pilot training so...
Or are you talking about people who wash out during the pilot training itself?
>>
>>497797416
Yeah, washouts mainly. That said, I don't really know how the whole system works, do they shove kids striaght out of HS into basic training with a defined role in mind? Do they decide later on based on some kind of aptitude test? How much say does the trainee get in all this?
>>
>>497701091
>>497699824

Go full in on waifufaggotry and gundamshit while retaining a grounded approach to combat, aesthetics and planes and the 'military feel' [ie keep the anime bullshit of sadfeels equals I die now bs to a minimum] . Trying to do dry geopolitics shit in a made up country no one has any actual attachment to is a recipe for no emotional investment / attachment for the players.
>>
>>497797856
If you want to become a pilot you apply to a ROTC program from outside the military, hope you fulfill the qualifications, take tests etc and if you get in, you enroll into the program.

You don't just HomerSimpson yourself into being a fighter pilot or indeed any pilot by signing on the dotted line and hoping for the best.

That said if I lived in the U.S I would love to be AF Security Forces if I lived near an AfB. I did my own service in a comparable role in my own country [minus planes] but in the U.S I would've actually been paid and gotten all the veteran benefits too.

I wish Ace Combat X got more love from Namco, in my eyes it's a full-fledged Ace Combat game like 3/4/5/0/6/7, but they seem to see it more as one of the weird also-rans like AH/JA/Infinity/Advance. I wish it got some pages in Aces at War.

I miss how picking certain missions moved stuff around and either giving you extra wingmen/ground troops or lower ammo/extra enemies/jamming, it was so much fun trying missions with the negative modifiers or having an extra challenge when rushing the story.

Kind of? They could be treated better and there are some flaws in the system but they're above what vets from most other countries and things like the GI Bill help you become useful after you come back and saying you were a vet makes it easier to get jobs with feds, people who work with feds and people who respect the military.
The problems mostly present themselves with healthcare availability and that the program being generally mismanaged couple with most roles taking a toll on your body (again could be better but if you can afford your own or your future job provides you with one it isn't so bad) and the fact that it's kind of hard to be a civilian after war, even if you can get a job and haven't seen combat the lack of purpose and order fucks with some people.
I'm not saying veterans aren't mistreated in some ways but most of the time it isn't particularly bad, sad stories get more attention and culturally people expect someone who spent 6 years of his life serving his country, who might have even fought and bled for it, to get more than mediocrity and apathy but compared to what most get the benefits of doing 6 years are damn good and you get them even if you haven't seen any action or taken a single step anywhere near a combat zone. Just don't get dishonorably discharged.

Depends on time / locality but you could've snagged some really good benefits and you can be as open or not open about it as you want. Spend a few years in the military and you've got already a bunch of gibs and a lot of businesses give preference to hiring vets especially if your MOS is compatible with what the company does. I'm very jealous and circumstances permitting I'd love to be in U.S Military haha. Would love SecFo but would honestly even take 88M.

>>497808681
There are probably a lot of indicators for what their career is going to be and while it is disappointing they'll probably intentionally want to weed out people who are only in it for the hero fantasy at least openly or people whose motivation would plummet immediately if they don't get to be a Top Gun ace. Regardless what you're flying in the military you're in for a lot of prestige and a very highly paying job. It's not quite like joining the navy to be a navy seal, washing out of BUDS and then being idk a cook or a light bulb changer technician or whatever.

Funnily enough as much as I love the Ace Combat hero fantasy of flying jets I would rather be on the ground guarding them haha because my head would spin.

S-70 inside Ukraine controlled airspace being blow out of the sky. Konstantynivka area, Donetsk for the where
By now whats left of the S-70 has been packed up and sent to the US to see what all we can learn from it and what data we can retrieve out of its flight recorders.
Here is the image of half its body

The lava whale part of w/e the fuck that was confirmed to me that the lore was written by memers whose only experience with war and history has been deep-fried twitter and reddit posts. As for AC, Zero is literally like 75% reason why AC has any lore to begin with,
>>
>>497938728
Thats a bit hyperbolic, almost every AC game expands a ton on the Strangereal world, Zero included.

For me, the sticker that let me know PWs lore was just gonna be a bunch of half assed shit was when the main antagonist faction is a continent sized map blob called "The Federation". Thats the type of move reserved for AO3 smutfic.
>>
>>497941210
I took the angle in that Zero's lore is what made Strangereal feel like a lived-in place while also being the first chronologicaly.
>>
>>497941798
For me it was 4 that did that the lore was simple then but it really made the world come alive. 5 expanded on it greatly and Zero was the like expansion pack we all wanted them to make.
>>
>>497938728
>Zero is literally like 75% reason why AC has any lore to begin with
nah, 5 set the foundation for basically all of strangereal outside Usea
Zero does a lot of personal stories but AWWNB is so unimportant that they don't exist beyond one character maybe being a callback in 7 and Belka were already proven to be shitheads that manipulate geopolitics in 5
Everything before AWWNB is already explored territory since all of the major events of the Belkan War are covered in 5

3 and 04 also pretty important for the lore (3 has a codex you can read through between missions that tells you about world affairs and stuff) but it's taken until AC7 for Electrosphere to be referenced in a meaningful way since it's set so far forward, and your perspective in 04 is pretty narrow throughout the game, most of the cool 04 lore comes from side materials
>>
>>497941798
AC4's entire cutscene repertoire is on the ground, from the POV of a noncombatant.
>>
4 established the meteors and gave most of the superweapons a plausible reason to exist
>>
>>497942240
one of my fave aspects of 7's background lore is all the little plot details that start connecting to 3, like how GR is starting to muscle into defence contractor work, the fall of Erusea leading to its component govt agencies getting parted out and sold off to Neucomm, etc

it has a bad habit of catching on fire and due to being built in the sunset years of the soviet union, it lacks good quality control on any of it's parts
it hasn't deployed since 2016
it's uses mazut for fuel and belches black smoke everywhere
the propulsion keeps breaking down so they have to escort the ship with tugboats
due to the ski jump, fighters have restrictive weight limits on what ordinance and how much fuel they can sortie with
the only drydocks that can service it have either sunk (with it in port) or been hit by cruise missiles
the plumbing is so unreliable that water is turned off in most cabins and half of the toilets don't work
allegedly it also runs it's reactor in port instead of connecting to the dock for power, but this is hearsay and i don't know if it's true
the thing won't die until 2030 at least because it's russia's only aircraft carrier, but it's also likely that it won't get the chance to sail again anyways because russia is bleeding money on a pointless war they have a miniscule chance of actually achieving any of their war goals on
>>
>>498024362
All that I know. How exactly Russia lied about it.
>the only drydocks that can service it have either sunk (with it in port) or been hit by cruise missiles
PD-50 sunk in 2018, and the rest is you making shit up, because after that Kuznetsov was moved to ship-fixing factory in Murmansk, to the only drydock which is capable of servicing such ship.

If anything about that was a thing, it'd had to have been cut very early indev since there's nothing about that from all the cut stuff that was datamined, iirc.
It'd explain Schroeder's TCAP-level behaviour in cutscenes though, and why he'd take them with him post-Farbanti.

NTA, but that just screams "you also need the opposite branch mission where you need to protect it as it descends"
>>
>>498308041
or alternatively you have to fend off a massive assault from both air and land/sea long enough for the rocket to land, maybe with a phase 2 where whatever was on the rocket gets loaded onto a helicopter and you have to protect it as it evacuates the area

Two things I had forgotten in Ac4 till I was playing just now. In Whisky Corridor if you dive at the very start of the mission you can see several ISAF planes sitting on the ground. And the other is when you go to rearm if you just wait around for a few moments you hear a chopper than you hear jets. On base or carrier don't matter you'll still hear them.

It won't but always plan for that one times it does. Uncle Sam steps in and says base is here for national security reasons. At that point laws, judges, fucking idiot homeowners mean all of nothing. When that card is played its an instant win for the government period.
But yes thankfully you still have plenty of people running the town who has the common sense of you moved here of your own free will you knew what you were getting so umm fuck off idiots just done in a nice way of we'll table the motion and forget about it.

I think planes should have artificial intelligence connected directly to the pilot with personality aspects from the animal they name them after and pilots should demonstrate those aspects after flying with their machine for too long.

Yeah, calculations for seeing how radar will bounce off every surface are a gigantic computational power hog. If a single line can spoil every effort you've made to reduce radar returns, you'd better put all the effort you can to ensure there's nothing of the sort in the finalised design.

Funny how quickly things changed, by the time of the program that would lead to the F-22 in the 80s, Lockheed’s first designs were still faceted and they only put in the effort for a design with curved surfaces after it underperformed and another faceted design lost out on a bomber competition to what would become Northrop’s B2.

I love nassault but this one is kind of a miss for me. I think the original stills tell the story in a better/more beautiful way. I just don't think the 3D models add anything meaningful, they're uglier with less atmosphere. the part where the boy watches the air battle was great though, that's where 3D really shines

I have a different preference as far as carrier-based stealth strike fighter concepts go. I know the A-12 was a real proposal, but if I didn't, I would assume it was a joke by someone trying to make commentary on stealth designs or something. A riced out F-117 easily wins the style contest.

Could work, actually. It'd open up carrier launches right off the bat and it's still outdated enough to have believably low-tier stats.
