How do I develop self control? Every day I think about wanting to make a game but then I just go right back to the same old routine of scrolling through 4chan, jerking off, scrolling through my phone, playing games, repeat. I want to break this cycle but I don't have the willpower to force myself away from the things that bring me dopamine. I know I'm not the only one here who has this problem because I've been coming to these threads for an embarrassingly long time and I've read all the similar posts. What's working for me is I have a separate room and game dev laptop in that room I only dev on. I set an alarm for 6 hours and let it tick whenever I'm at the dev chair and take breake every 1 or 2 hours. Progress is coming swimmingly.

It truly baffles me, this is the wet dream of every card game player. But then again, pokefags have been asking for a genuine open world Pokémon game for decades and Gamefreak still shits out the same template based slop. Card games are pretty niche so there might not be an incentive for studios to take a risk on what would probably have to be a pretty big budget project in order to function properly.

If they're AI then it's very similar to other single player cardgame campaigns.
If they're real, then this doesn't really work in a long term MMORPG. The entire game would be filled with irl Weevil Underwoods with min-maxed decks taking all the cards from noobies.

You'd have to do some kind of battle royale type thing, and that would take some thinking, which is unheard of for corporate studios.

Maybe it could be like a Pokemon/Runescape hybrid where there's safe zone cities surrounded by wilderness areas full of monsters and NPCs. Players go out into the wilderness to do raids, grind low level monsters, fight NPCs, and earn cards. Then you can go back to the safe haven cities and battle other players in that city's "gym". That way there's opportunities for building different decks for grinding and decks for PvP fights.
There could be random world events like a full moon or a meteor shower or whatever that might make certain cards more powerful. Maybe like in Pokemon certain cities are dedicated to a certain element and cards with that element get bonuses in those cities' gyms. Anything to create additional variables that encourage players to switch up their decks and prevent metas from forming and getting stale. Easier said than done of course.

This sort of attitude will cause you to fail at making a game. If you set out to make money, you are going to fail. If you set out thinking that you're too good for/unable to make Fifth gen console graphics, you will fail. If you want to go beyond that, right now we seem to be around 6th gen for solo devs as long as you have good stylization- with the caveat that both 5th and 6th generation tier graphics can make full use of the inbuilt modern graphic processing an effects to lean on. I like to explore the middle of the United States on google maps. It's fun finding tiny towns that have no reason to exist and walking around on street view. Because it's America even the tiniest towns are mapped, at least partially.
I genuinely don't understand how a human being can exist in such a place. Pic related is from Virgil, Kansas, population 52 as of 2022. The nearest city is a 2 hour drive away. I've lived in all sorts of situations.

That's what it means to be a part of these small communities, it's the "real communism" that city-bound leftists could only dream of, sitting right under their noses this entire time. Remember the tales of "penny auctions" during the great depression where locals would band together to ensure nobody buys up land that the banks foreclosed on? That's what this is.
You've got everything you need and working feels good. People pay just to experience this work for a week.

Global Illumination refers to the simulation of real lighting, not in the literal meaning of global. You can have screen space GI and it's still GI. I assume they're just firing a few raycasts up and if enough of them are occluded, they consider that you're in a "cave" environment and crossfade the directional light properties to that of a darker scene. Light isn't a mechanic in this game, so cave lighting is much brighter than a realistically lit cave.

If I had to guess I'd say most people prefer B. Or at least that's what they're used to.

If you go with B you gotta make sure you got enough variety and exciting things to find. One of the things I hated the most about Valheim was that there was so little loot to be found. There's only a couple somewhat special weapons and there's nothing special about how you get access to them. That along with the lack of variety in the content were the biggest downfalls of what could've been a 10/10 game.

More recently I played Core Keeper and that had more interesting loot but the devs somehow managed to make the game into something that can be beaten in a session or two. If you're going for that Terraria style progression you gotta find ways to slow the player down without making it feel like a grind.

I too am a NEET and 4 hours or so seemed to be about my limit too. That's when I was trying harder as well. Right now just getting about 2 hours requires a lot of internal motivation/forcing myself to do it but it's a consistent 7 days a week so about 14 hours weekly. Ragnarok Online card & weapon tier system was pretty cool. Lower tier weapons have less damage (obviously), more card slots and less bonus damage per upgrade but are easier to upgrade. As you go up in tier damage goes up, card slots go down and upgrading gets more difficult.

Certain cards and card combinations were incredibly powerful so many builds would look for a middle ground where they'd have a decent bit of damage but still had 3 card slots to build a nice card combo (4 slots was max). People would make specific weapons to grind on certain types of mobs that were good xp at high levels.
