You know, this game effectively kills any other potential story hooks for Shadow, he let's Maria and Gerald go after having real closure knowing both of them are deeply proud of what he's become and assured he's not alone in the world like Maria feared, there's nothing left for him as a character now he's just that broody guy who stands around with his arms crossed scowling. Kinda like Knuckles used to do, he's like him, silver and blaze now as an attempt at fleshing out Knuckles with Chronicles was met with not only failure but traumatic mocking, they were finished with Blaze as a character the moment the person who pushed for her stopped having any sex about the main games,the same goes for Silver it might be why they're paired up, two failures who will never live up to what they conceptualized for them yet not completely despised enough to vault them entirely and Sonic himself barely has stories to mess with him, he doesn't stop, even when he's blocked, he doesn't stop, even against powerful enemies, he doesn't stop, he just doesn't stop running, why won't he stop?
