I am starting to be able to read code. I'm learning slowly, but just you wait, I'll be making posts about being a self taught programmer and calling for people to work on my dream game.

All this started because some Japanese company (Aiming Inc; scumbags) decided to End of Service a game I loved.

depends on who you are copying, could be like a few games in my genre who are outright copying someone and facing 0 consequences or you could be like that one mobile game that got sued for copying even though the art is it's own style. accidentally found the game on steam as well. turned me off from even considering their other games just knowing these guys got butthurt over having their gameplay copied all with a new art style and their own code.
>>
>>498674651

>>
>>498675272
i've realized i could've copied one of the games i've played. i extended development time just making it different to avoid getting sued and in the end it didn't matter. seems like it's easier to get away with when copying indie devs. also i was far more paranoid back then and fearful that it'd be easy to get sued for even the smallest of things.

I've been going through mocap libraries and services. Didn't want to buy a suit especially since most of them still require subscription. EasyMocap did okay, but Move One is better and doesn't require number of cameras which is a pro. Vid related is a good take, will show you a bad one in next post

Why do people do that? Is it that hard to write the zone to be sure? And 10 minutes ago I went from 16 days to 15 days 23h59m... It looks like the time was in UTC+1, my local time is in UTC+2.

There is not enough strategic 'impassable' ground. The enemy can attack that base from all angles , the only defense for that is a complete wall.

Make some impassable terrain that creates chokepoints and other strategic points where you can push out from the base, fortify those points and create buffer zones.

Draw inspirations from games and GDC talks about designing compelling levels, things that struck me was power positions on certain COD maps that gave people vantage points, a general style or vibe or a period or era, or something new you can make yourself for and that influences it, Idk get creative and draw inspiration:D

this. that market is saturated imho though i had my fill with doom alone in terms of boomershooter/boomershooter-likes. unlike some anons saying 2 cakes, it doesn't always work that way. look at all those platformers, no thanks. the only recent ones i saw do well without it being backed by a huge popular publisher was some "obscure" platformer..........made by a semi popular youtuber. it is however close to similar to a type of platformer i'd like to make some day, but it's pixel-gold tier and iirc didn't even hit 1000 reviews. imagine he wasn't a youtuber, i doubt it'd be over 200 reviews at all. there's also the woke platformer that did well but marketing it as such is probably what helped it, remove that and just how well would it do, just plain marketing?

Everyone on /agdg/, (You) included, is a brain damaged contrarian and that's where it all starts and ends. Do you wanna hear some hard truths boyo?
Bokube is a higher quality product than Landsword and looks better because it has tons more charm.
Crumble is more fun than Landsword and it's not even a competition.
Underspace deserves much more admiration as an artistic accomplishment because it's much more technically complex to be pulled off by a single person and has about 50 times the systems Landsword has.

But you don't wanna hear that, because those developers/games are already burdened with the hivemind's evaluation and that's where you get your facts from. You can't see yourself actually acknowledging the accomplishments of the real best developers here because you're too caught up trying to be unique and edgy.

I will keep defending the true heroes of /agdg/ until I'm an old fart. Fuck Project Landsword. The dev is a hack and the game has no future. I hope he kills himself.

Character and hard work are not enough to make a game good. It's just how it is. This isn't intended as dig against anyone in particular. Its' just a fact of life we all have to face.

Most of us here work very hard. We genuinely pour our hearts and souls into our game. But the sad thing is that it just isn't enough. And we can't do anything about that except cope.

i'd ignore all of them and judge it solely with my own view since i know how those people are. i remember one specific game that imo looked good, guy was probably nowhere near ready for release, yet they goaded him into releasing much sooner "id definitely buy it!" can't remember how many replies he got but i think it was more than the usual and yet iirc he didn't even get 20 reviews

i've seen this behavior on steam as well. some of you probably already heard the story i've told before about the guy who made a free game that got lots of reviews and someone said something about making a full paid version. iirc it got some traction "do it dev i'd buy it too!" not even 300 reviews. however he is a third worlder so that probably got him a decade plus worth of the median income in his country. but imagine being a first worlder getting all that interest only to get not even 1/20 the interest as the free version. i'd have been duped if i made a free game and got 5000+ reviews. that's like 1 years income for me, yet the gap between the free and paid version is about 2.5 years! my dream would be crushed on release, 2.5 years thinking i was finally gmi and then all of a sudden that dream come crashing and burning as i get a whopping year worth of income or so, and that's after a few years post release.

Anon just because you worked hard on your shit game doesn't make it good. You can be proud of your work while recognising that you have a long way to go. Take up pottery and your first pots are going to be complete ass, uneven with thumb prints in them, they have "character" but they are not well-made pots. Being scornful of any pot with smooth sides and symmetry, well-made functional pots, means you will never progress beyond the absolute base beginner amateur stage of your craft. Being incapable of growth or listening to feedback is, coincidentally a hallmark of all the devs you listed as "heroes".

You are arrogant, mentally ill, bitter retard nodev and your perpetual mediocrity and failure is the punishment you deserve.

Viral social media posts that you then leverage to get gaming media coverage which you then leverage to get youtuber/streamer coverage which you then leverage to get wishlists, which Steam uses to put your game on new and trending which then drives big sales and gets your game on the front page... Basically are people actually interested in your game? And what kind of average playtime does your demo have?

Not much of a game imho, looks more like one of those doo-hickeys you mess with for a bit before dropping and never touching again. However in terms of money it is a good success. ~$500k - $750k per person after taxes assuming it is just a two man team. The bigger problem here is that I wouldn't be surprised if both of these devs had jobs that paid $200k+ per year. For someone like me even just $500k means I'd trash my resume and I'm a first worlder. Opportunity cost, why slave for a decade in situation when I can comfortably gamedev even with the risk of it failing. These devs however are those types of first worlders that keep waging even after saving $1m dollars before 40 all while ignoring/not realizing they could retire and earn decent passive income. To them all they pulled of was about 3 years worth of income and iirc they both quit their jobs.

For reasons I will not state this will probably be their last game if sales don't improve massively. It's a huge gamble after all, they pulled off a difficult task and made a lot of money but unlike the average 1st world person they have jobs that pay them that much over a few years without the same risks. Why take such a gamble again? Just a quick look through the data and it's development began approx 2021. 3 years. That's basically 250k at most per dev, per year of development. For a couple of people who likely had jobs paying them $200k+ a year that is a terrible return for the incurred risk.

Now they have the important question, keep gamedevving or give up and return to the wagecage lest the employment gap become too wide. Sure they have a fanbase and made "a lot of money" but if that was enough to quit waging altogether, then why didn't they just wage another 3 years and retire if $750k is all it'd take? I'd put gamedev on pause if I was earning 250k yearly, would quit waging in about a decade beats gambling it on gamedev which these 2 were undoubtedly doing

There are couples of coding tutor jobs for kids that requires some Roblox experience

Maybe i should pick that up if i don't have much time for unity

I can export to sheets for each direction of each animation just as D1 used, the issue of time is to make gifs to post on aggy daggy because I haven't automated that. So to make a gif I need to export as individual frames instead of a sheet then load them into aseprite as an animation and if I'm doing a turnaround of 8 directions splice together the 8 of them into one animation to then export it again from there as a gif.
I agree a game like this would be kino, beyond my ability to code though.

I want to write a fantasy world inspired by real life civilizations in AoE2, but likely simplify the autismo into 10 major empires with each one being a regional kingdom.

But the key diference is that the entire world are anime girls, and the monsters and villains are females

Basically the only male is the MC of the story, which happens to be the reincarnation of the divine sun energy, a kind of divine mesias, which happens to spawn to basically clean the world, ciclycally from the acumulation of evil demonic forces

This MC basically uses his big shota dick, to impregnate and purify the wombs of the female npcs, female heroines, queens and also the wombs of the demons and the gods of this world

Because his goal is to replenish the mana of the genetics of the world, and his seed can actually purifiy and help recover the magic capabilities of the planet, similar to how spring usually begins a new cycle in the seasons of this planet
It's basically something like a cyclical harvest of his shota dick energy, what the girls and female monsters, feel atracted to him, as a way to being purified

There's also a sci fi type of Stargate SGI group that does some surveillance to the planet and works as a kind of UN peacekeepers, while they're treated as olympus gods by the normal population

There's also a demonic force, which would be similar to new age reptilians and gray aliens, but simply green and grey and blue skin anime girls, who happen to spawn by the accumulation of evil human desires on the land
This is the source that creates the energy to spawn the anime monster girls of the world, which eventually make them develop an alien technology similar to many alien cilizations in sci fi.

The goal then of the sun energy shota hero is to clean the world from the evil that accumulates on the world, by using his semen as a sacred tool to cleanse the wombs of the females and monster and demons of this world

Shit like the google play store is worse by sheer numbers but the effect is the same - 99% of games are hidden under a mountain of garbage. Every indie dev is a temporarily embarrassed Notch though so if you speak out about it it -must- be because your game is bad because there's simply no other reason why you'd be against Steam being flooded with garbage asset flips and scams.

Just spent 2 hours trying to fix my unity webgl builds not building with no useful error.

After deleting packages and other stuff that I thought could be the issue and changing settings I found somewhere that deleting the Library folder can fix issues. Did this and it was fixed.

At least I took a copy of my project before all my fiddling so I could just revert back to that and delete Library.

Always take a backup before doing wild changes to fix unknown issues.

I guess this is a progress post...

how do i make a sword slash attack only one enemy and still make it clear to the player which enemies they will hit when they do a sword slash?

i need some gameplay solution to this.
i could make the sword auto attack automatically and it only hits the closest enemy, but that'd make it impossible to do aimed attacks too.

I am seeing a general trend of jobs slow getting offshored to India or Vietnam at the gamedev studio I work at, especially ever since american management got replaced by other managers in Asia.

I have nothing against working with people from other countries, I welcome it, but the people the company is hiring are mostly burdens to projects. I know there are good offshore devs, but they often leave for better opportunities.

I cannot see how the sad reality of hiring 4 times our workforce as offshore while still having to babysit them daily is even close to cost efficiency. By even mentionning it, you are almost told you are racist. What is up with that?

Is anyone seeing similar changes in the companies they are working at?

In no world will reading building codes get you to a level of competency where you can draw a reasonable blueprint. If you want to make a house, buy a blueprint drafted by an experienced architect. Gdscript is trash and c# support is really buggy/lacking. I don't like how the entities are. I much prefer a pure entity component system such as like bevy has built in. The devs like Juan and that networking guy are very amateur and it shows. They have full control over it and won't merge in a lot of stuff. Big issues been sitting there for years. Some issues with a fix have been sitting there for a long time and they don't merge them in.

because all you need is programming fundamentals and a general idea of efficiency. Anything beyond that is going to be domain and problem specific. You will be better off encountering problems and learning as you go than trying to prepare for every possible problem.

You do that list, and you let your basic knowledge of algorithmic complexity + the profiler check your decisions.

Also courses are just cash grabs. All is online for free. Especially with programming.

You have to study AND do the thing you want to do at the same time. If you spend all your time trying to crunch all the information in your head, you'll be studying forever, all without getting anything done. It's like when people try ro make game design docs or lore all without a single line of code written, you're just wasting time.

1. Download Godot (or engine of choice)
2. Follow a tutorial to make a game. Copy code and try to adjust it to make things work. (this is already surpassing 8. on your guide)
3. eventually start a new project but this time you now know the basics of how to code shit from last week so you can be a bit more freestyle
4. eventually start a new project a month later, but this time you don't even need a tutorial for the code
5. now you can start making a real game for release
6. when that's done you can now start making a game that might actually get some money
7. become yesdev

If you've never coded before, gdscript is great, don't listen to the other anon, it's one of the best to start with and the people who hate it are baby ducked software engineers.

Yeah don’t listen to that guy just go whichever way you got motivation for. For most people it’s motivating going straight to an engine so there is a grey box on screen from day 1, but for others it can be different. Also I suspect many straight-to-engine people still wouldn’t be able to do software architecture on green field, after spending months in it. But it can help a lot to be able to just program some kind of system abstractly without engine tie-in, even when using an engine.

If you try doing gamedev you'll know where you stand and whether or not you need to do more.

If you can stick to learning C then go for it but if you ever find you're struggling to put in effort then try just doing gamedev. The most important part of all of this is to just do what makes you work. Nothing matters if you don't work.

I must be doing something wrong on why i spend most of my day either jacking off or scroll youtube right? Nothing excites me anymore. I can't make projects on my own and I'm always glued to tutorials after tutorials. Like, what's the point? I'm only lying to myself and potential employer. Okay, i can spend the day practicing leetcode, then what? I don't even want to apply for jobs anymore. I tell myself that I'm happier making games on unity but again, i can't make anything without looking at a tutorial. I just want to do something other than looking at porn and taking naps, and having hard time sleeping at night because things keeps piling up for the other day. I either do chores around the house or jack off to chatbots, that's it. I can't even make myself to draw some pixel art to supposedly try to relax.

I don't exactly want a job. I just want to find an income and move out. I'm tired of being a pushover living with my family, I do errands for my younger siblings, or delivering messages between my divorced parents. isn't that fucking pathetic?
