Shadow was both created as a hedgehog (Gerald design) AND has Doom's DNA in him on top of it, who can harness Chaos energy himself, which is very likely why Shadow can use Chaos abilities without the need of an Emerald (Short range Teleportation and Chaos Spear). The Biolizard has shown the capabilities to use Chaos Control as well but Gerald said it was a failure for some reason, likely Hedgehog frame makes it easier to keep the Chaos energy in check?

I wondered what it would be like if I could tell my 10 year old self that in a little over a decade, I would not only be talking to Steven Butler, but I would have the privilege of coloring one of his pieces. I was able to (in a way) go back in time and pull 10 year old me into that moment and let him share it with me.
