I propose the mid in midlander doesn't actually come from them being from midlands originally. I believe it's a related to miscegenation done specifically by them, and due to how breeding with middies seem to work its halfway with how irl racemixing works, therefore middle miscegenation. Therefore midcegenation, and they're from a land of it. Midcegenation lander or midlander for short. This is why most cases of miscegenation in xiv world involves a midlander and my male and female middie players never pursue other middies when straight but instead pursue every other race.

Even the term rava and veena are present there to describe tribes of viera, but from other games set in the same world we see another group, a subspecies named "feol" that stemmed from a dark skinned viera mating with a white man named feolthanos. Where am I going with this? Well, the veena we see in 12 are actually as dark as rava are, infact Fran is a veena. We see that the "loose events" of ff12 happened within the world of xiv at some point, meaning, that millenia ago the veena were indeed as dark as rava. So what changed? They likely met with the same fate as the feol, bleached and turned white. Now how? We see with the feol they're smaller than viera and fair skinned. Well we see something similar in veena, except they're the same height but their eyebrows are noticeably weaker. Now so we know of a race with weak eyebrows known for racemixing? Yes. Midlanders. Now you may say that "highlanders don't have eyebrows couldn't it be them?"My answer is NO because within this shard and other shards we actually see examples of highlander men with eyebrows and they're all really strong when they don't shave them. Now look at middie faces for their men. Their eyebrows are there but weaker than their highlander counterparts as seen through male and female highlanders who are browed up. We even see with fiddies their eyebrows are slightly weaker than female highlander brows. That's the trait I believe the veena inherited. A small group of ancient veena were bleached by midlander men, then the offspring bred back into the local veena, turning them all gradually whiter and whiter, this is why even veena who we know don't come from snowy areas are white. Their ancestors were bleached in the literal and sexual sense.
