So, what they focus on and what they want to see is more of Blaze with Sonic. It doesn't help that Rush sidelined Tails, Amy and Knuckles so it basically feels like Blaze overshadows them all. Why have Tails when Blaze can be the second player character? Why have Amy when Blaze can be the leading lady and love interest? Why have Knuckles when Blaze can be Sonic's opposite and the stoic guardian figure? That's why I say Blaze should be the -fifth- member of the Core cast. She should be an important core character... but she ranks lower on the totem pole than Tails, Amy and Knuckles and should not replace any of them.

The games dedicate Blaze's screen presence on her running around, kicking ass, using her powers, establishing her style and personality, expanding upon emerald lore, and developing a bond with Sonic. This whole mindset of "why do you want this character to do what the games did with them instead of focus purely on subtext?" is monumentally petty and a transparent attempt at justifying arbitrary exclusion. You see people do the same thing with Knuckles, saying he simply shouldn't be around for adventures, instead of creating reasonable character and story elements that justify the character's on-screen presence. Because ultimately, it's the design, the style, the personality, and the gameplay that matters. The subtext merely contributes to informing that.
