I have just finished the Canto and would like to share my thoughts on the most important part of the entire thing: Comparisons to the source material.To start with, I think that the character of Don Quixote and Sancho, particularly while they were off on their adventures, was perfect. Sancho was always the one who was skeptical of Quixote's wild fantasies but did ultimately go along with him out of both love and being swept into his dreams of a better, more noble world. Quixote for his part would also often chastise him for being more selfish than he should be so that was great.The Barber + Priest probably should not have gotten as much focus as they did. They were not part of Quixote's dream and actively opposed it (which I guess is sort of kept in Limbus) so I don't think they should have been focuses in LaMancha Land. That isn't nearly as egregious as Dulcinea though. She should not exist at all and should probably have been almost like a Carmen analogue that Quixote chases after but never attains (which may even be the catalyst that makes him give up on the dream). Having her not only be real but be attained by Quixote is ridiculous.Knight of the Moon was cool but the Knight of the Moon (secretly Carasco) loses to Quixote and comes back as the Knight of the Mirrors. Given the huge significance that Mirrors have in Limbus, this felt like a huge missed opportunity. I'm hoping we do see a Knight of the Mirror in the next Don canto (Purgatorio or a side story).I would probably have used the four lovers Cardenio, Lucinda, Don Fernando, and Dorothea instead of Barber + Priest and would likely have included an Inkeeper + Wife as antagonists during his travels. I also would have included more references to enchanters replacing or switching things up. I think the blue dude would have made a fine expy for that.Windmill reference was cute and I think changing it to a Ferris wheel was totally fine and on brand.
