Nepo would be >2800 if he lost weight and cardiomaxxed. Imagine never becoming world champion because you're incapable of eating less and going running couple days a week.

I watched Bortnyk's stream as he streamed the IRL blitz tournament they usually play with Danya.
You can feel Danya's autism just by watching him play.

Indians constantly sperg out about her having a fake accent just like they sperg out about everything. I can kind of hear it. To me, it sounds like a mix of Indian and valley girl when listening to her interviews because I think she's trying to tone down the jeet accent when speaking English.

Bloody hell, he isn't even trying to change up his move times. He's so insanely blatant and he's been cheating for a few weeks now. Why hasn't he been banned? I mean look at the discrepancy between his blitz play and his rapid play. In blitz he's dropping material like it's going out of fashion, but in rapid he's finding insanely beautiful mating attacks that end in stunners like Qxh3#. What is happening to Lichess? Do they just not care anymore? Surely Thibault could use some of the funds coming in to Lichess to hire anti-cheating experts if he can't defeat them with his own algorithm (it's clear he can't).
>>
>>501717707
I reported him a few times already and I think others did as well. He's been doing this for weeks with 0 intentions to even hide it. Lichess is a joke
>>
>>501718390
I don't even play rapid anymore. Only 3+0 and 1+0. There are cheats in faster time controls too, but not as many as in rapid. It's really sad because rapid is the best way to improve, but I don't want to get tilted while I play because I think the other guy is using stockfish. It's a psychological thing that always weighs on my mind and must affect other people too.

Online chess is dead especially because of this. And this is a guy you can tell he's cheating right away, there are many more that aren't that obvious.
Unless you're a complete moron you can easily get away with cheating online, and even if you're a moron and cheat like this guy you might still get away with it because you might not hit all the right boxes for it.

Can anyone actually explain why Magnus is STILL seething at Niemann? Pretty sure even Hans doesn't give a fuck anymore despite being blacklisted for 2 years because of Magnus' tantrum.
>>
>>501716184
>sacs knight on move 10 like a retard
>hurr durr cheaters

no idiot, to get a half-measure retarded attack you sacrificed your knight, cope seethe and dilate. btw i have the lordbentham acc and i'm not cheating. i'm just old, that's way i can't compete in faster formats.
>>
>>501728883
i mean you must be pretty retard to sac a knight on move 10 on a 10 minute rapid game, if it's blitz it's understandable, plus you exchanged bishop when you were material down, even a 1500 could win that game against you, you had nothing, no compensation.

The guy has a lot of games that are pretty much perfectly played.
This is exactly why you can't prove shit cheating wisein online games. At that level players can play flawless games but how many flawless games start to become suspect?
And even if there are no flawless games, how many perfect conversions become suspects
tldr online chess is fucked
>>
Stop playing online and stop whining. Problem solved.
>>
>>501728324
Magnus absolutely hates cocky retards who have a delusional view of their own skills. It's also why he spent his whole career shitting on Nakamura.
>>
>>501728324
Because he tried to turn his implied Sinquefield accusation into a crusade against online cheating and Hans is a self-admitted online cheater. Hans is also just an arrogant cunt, when they played online before the whole scandal Magnus even made comments about how nice it was when Hans used to be polite. However, Magnus was very measured about Hans in his SCC post match interview even if he never hid his dislike of the lad.
>>
>>501728324
i wouldn't say he's seething. he just got asked an off-hand question in an interview whether he thinks niemann will ever become world champ and he said "i don't think so". it doesn't seem personal, there's just not much that points to hans being at that level currently.
>>

chess mafia instructed everyone to stop engaging with him. first they tried laughing it off, but after that didn't work, too many normies were waking up so they decided a media blackout on the issue would be the best thing.

the story isn't over yet. danya is playing a classical otb tourney soon (US Masters on November 27th) so that will be interesting and i'm sure vlad will cover it. and probably the world rapid & blitz in new york too. vlad hasn't given up, just needs more data and statistics :)

Danya could never win a lawsuit against vladdy, it's just his jew assumption that lawyers will solve all his problems.
First of all compelling a Russian citizen to appear in court is impossible never-ending for something as meaningless as danyas hurt feelings.
Second of all to prove defamation he needs to prove actual malice which means he needs to prove vlad doesn't actually believe danya is a cheater
Then he needs to snow damages, did danya actually lose money over this? Ofc not

True. Libel/defamation/slander is extremely hard against 1. an individual, not a company (like a media outlet) and 2. An international with no US residence and 2b. Not a friendly nation to the US either. 3. Minimal monetary damages. No chance. Court won't even want to hear it. Maybe if Daniel was fired and lost all online platform income. Even then i doubt it.

We'll play 1h of chess before switching to mahjong, but people who wants to stay for chess can keep the instance alive if they want to.
> I don't have VR and what's the point?
You can play without vr as well, we use vrchat which also have a non-vr client. The main appeal is to play with different people in a virtual environment, which means you can talk (or type if you don't want to use a mic), spectate and move from table to table.
The table implementation also have (in-game) replay, so you can analyze the game afterward with your opponent.
> What do I need to be able to join?
Basically to make a vrchat account and to have the game started (you can just install it from steam), I recommend to make a direct vrchat account rather than using your steam account for in-game log in as it makes joining easier.
I will post an instance link when the event starts, while logged in the vrchat website you can click on "invite me" and you will get a notification in-game to join the instance.
Besides maybe getting familiar with the controls you don't need anything else really
> How do we play? (time settings, ...)
We usually play with 10min +5sec, but it's up to the player to set it up. The timer reaching 0 says "gg" but doesn't force to end the game, so you can agree to ignore the timer if you prefer
> What's the skill level?
According to the other host the average /vrg/ chess skill ranges from 800 to 1500 chess.com
> NA hours when?
NA chess instances are on 10pm EST on Wednesdays

Fix these and he could easily be 200 points higher rated. But he won't just like I won't
>>
>>501854783
I’m never gonna play a single game with you in your virtual environment. But I will continue to listen to what you have to say. And that’s what no one did.
>>
>>501860583
Well, does that mean someday we will play outside of the virtual environment?

The justification is, since rating is not a score, your rating already stabilized on its own in subsequent games. In practice this feels shitty and makes no difference.

Yeah, this always seemed like a lazy excuse from cheatcum and liecheat. If your rating will go back up on its own after losing to a cheat, then logically it will go back down on its own after being refunded points as well.

It's unfortunate nobody has made a viable alternative to the big two chess sites yet - ideally with gacha mechanics and big tiddy anime girls.

the main thing is it's a false premise that danya can't win without cheating or anything to that effect. him winning a few matches or even one tournament without cheating doesn't retroactively or proactively prove anything, but redditors parade around as though that's what it is
there are gms on vk's side but the chess mafia keeps them quiet. there's no incentive for them to step up and be associated with any of it even if they agree with vlad

Might start playing exclusively the English and Old Benoni just because I'm bored of the other openings. I play the Hyper-Accelerated/Accelerated Dragon mostly against e4, anything else that's intersting or a bit off beat that most fellow 1200 shitters won't have seen before?

KIA with 1 Nf3 with white. Dutch with black against d4. Alekhine with black vs e4.

>>
Why is KID considered a beginner friendly opening again? It's completely horrendous. You're supposed to find some odd pawn storms and sacs with the King's poor castled pawns that is impossible to see for a beginner being used to the fried liver and caro cuck. Played it today and everything traded down to a losing position where whites rook just could gobble more easily than mine and I saw no ideas whatsoever but one movers then I walked mine into a bishop fork and resigned. I hate KID so goddamn much... will only play symmetrical against d4 from now on.
>>
>>501882643
>its weird how much mental state can affect your chess play
I don't see how this could be considered "weird" at all. Chess is a purely mental game. Even the slightest deviation from peak mental performance is enough to affect the way you play

>>501883785
Study Paul Morphy games and stop playing passive. Every developing move should be played with the intent to attack.

>>501881784
I know the feel. I go down around 200 pts when I'm off my game too. For me it's sleep that can do it, but also if I get bored with chess but keep playing, I will lose.
In both cases the antidote is to stop playing for a while or until you sleep..

Because it can be played like a braindead system opening. Create your structure then push f5 and play a bunch of normal piece maneuvers and try to checkmate the white king.
>>
>>501885090
Because the usual youtube chess grifter advice is to just play d6 Nf6 g6 Bg7 0-0 disregarding anything your opponent is doing as if it were some kind of "universal system". Just people making money by appealing to the lazy, essentially. Don't ask them why you're getting checkmated because of h4 h5 attacks though.

No, the exact opposite. If playing puzzles wasn't necessary to get better, I wouldn't touch them at all, ever.

I wasn't going to post this as Magnus' new app/youtube channel is heavily advertised on its own. However, there is an interview with Gukesh's dad in this that is pretty funny. Basically he says Gukesh's sort of stoic public persona is all wrong. He describes, "[Gukesh is] Naughty to the core. He is not as he looks outside, that much I can say" in this interview. It sounds like the boy is a trouble maker.

>>502026196
100% This. Maybe this is caused by us untitled players watching these professional games all the time where the losing side always resigns if he goes down a piece. >>
>>502027078
That's why I play until checkmate or my time runs out.
Do you really think I'm going to resign after blundering a piece or an exchange when blundering those sorts of tactics happen all the time at my level? Nope. Indians are a pro-piracy country. They don't pay for things, if they can get them for free. Most Indians live below the poverty line and can barely afford to house and feed themselves. Do you really think they're going to pay for chess books, courses, sites, subscriptions, etc? If you go on the main chessable telegram channels, they're full of Iranians, Indians and Russians. These are the 3 main demographics pirating chess stuff. North Americans and Europeans are the target because North Americans and Europeans have disposable income that they're willing to spend on chess things.

I hate how almost all chess teaching materials teach in a rigid way which stifles creativity and brilliance. It's only until you get certain tactics puzzle books that you realize that you can play moves that look crazy and you can do it quite often to create wild complications in your own games but by the time you get to these puzzle books the damage is done because the rigidness is built into you fundamentally and it takes a lot of effort to become more "Tal-like".

Watching Marc Esserman's streams have I think helped cultivate a sense of creativity in my play, although much shittier since I'm far less experienced and talented. The way he coordinates his pieces is an art. Pins are immediately taken advantage of to either win a piece or improve the position of his pieces. Any opportunity that exists to sacrifice a piece to weaken the king is utilized. Open files and diagonals become the backbones of future mating nets. Discovered attacks and deflection are used to pick apart the opponent's position and send his forces into disarray.
>>
>>502193346
If you think about it, all the top guys began playing wild chess with tactics and sacrifices, Magnus was like that.

On the other hand, If you want to see crazy swindles look for a book about Marshall! It's something like "Marshall the Swindler" or something like that, there you can see how he saves his ass with some crazy tactics and traps

Now, can you elaborate more? What do you mean by rigid? What books make you "free" of that rigidness?

You need to know and understand the rules in order to break them effectively. Also you can't really teach creativity, what happens is you get your average 1000 elo lichess games with wild ""sacrifices"" that do nothing but lose pieces.
>>
>>502193346
Meanwhile in the intro to the Soviet Chess Primer (before they even teach how the pieces move):
>Thanks to the exercise he derives from playing, he [the student] will gradually achieve mastery. But he should beware of mechanically following the advice of others. He should not play by rote. Studying material from books or from the words of a teacher is not enough - the student must form his own judgements and stand by them persistently. Otherwise he will be playing chess in the same way that a parrot pronounces words - without understanding their sense.

Nobody should learn the game of chess by watching youtube slop made for low IQ audiences. The contrast from quality introductory chess books to gothamjew videos and the like is absolutely insane. Chess becoming popular among the normalfag masses was the worst thing to ever happen to chess education.
>>
>>502193346
yet another reason to delay all theory until you play 10k bullet games. you can experiment and try out whacky shit every game and it will teach you more about how to play chess than someone teaching you rigid rules and sequences.

not really. this argument supposes he's been at his best and putting in ~100% effort during that period
gukesh also has a very small sample size and has never competed at this level before. so it also supposes that we can be extremely confident that everything we've seen from gukesh in a small sample size will translate in a wc match, which i don't think you can reasonably do. not enough information
my guess is the line is roughly correct but weighted too much to gukesh. if you're getting +300 on ding, he only needs to win in 25% of universes for you to breakeven. and if you're paying -400 on gukesh, he has to win 80% of the time just for you to breakeven
the real issue is most books add a shitload of rake, so like bovada has +275/-400, and if the true line is anywhere in between like +325/-325, neither side is profitable to bet
but yeah if anything +275 ding definitely has to be the play unless you have really good reason to bet gukesh beyond "vibes bro"

>guess I just need to develop my opening theory better and I'll be 2200 lichess
Knowing your repertoire well and the plans that come with it(and having an actual repertoire, checked with engines) will definitely put you forward a few hundred elo points. There are a lot of players that just enter lost positions right off the opening. The problem is that sooner or later, you will get to a pool where players know just as much theory as you and you'll start to lose games for other reasons like tactics, endgames, time pressure.
Stjepan kind of hit that wall with his opening prep and now he gets dunked on based on other reasons, mainly tactics. it's also kind of weird that he also has a lot of opening holes, he constantly enters opening it's clear he doesn't know what to do

What's the Common Core method for chess calculation? I'm not a natural that could intuit a process that works, so I need universally applicable concrete steps I can follow that simulate and elucidate the mental processes that take place in a natural's mind when calculating. Basically I need everything spelled out for me into an easily repeatable workflow that yields results.

>the guy doesn't train fucking tactics
He does. He has some kind of blindspot in games that I think is connected to his lack of willingness to calculate in the middle game at junctures where he thinks he must make the obvious defensive move. Like that other game with queen blunder, he says "am I missing something?" looks for all of two seconds "no, i don't think so" instantly blunders the one move tactic. He didn't check. In hindsight he does this a lot.

The first day of the fourth game of the 37th Ryuo title match is being played between Yuki Sasaki (sente) and Sota Fujii (Ryuo title holder). The time control is 8 hours per player, and the match is a best of 7 (currently Fujii leads 2-1)
In this game, Sasaki chose to play bishop exchange. Instead of going for the highly theoretical and deeply researched mainline (reclining silver), which Fujii is an expert in, Sasaki played one of the sidelines (rapid-advancing silver), continuing his strategy from games 2 and 3 of playing less popular openings.

Perfectly played chess is a draw, so you could make the argument that there's no such thing as a brilliant move and instead just correct moves and mistakes.
Or you could say that the brilliancy is the ability to see and take advantage of subtle mistakes, especially if the refutation is unintuitive.

>>
>>502340106
Often yes but the fuckups can be extremely hard to see. They can also be in the form of accumulated small errors that eventually lead to an untenable position (contemporary example is Magnus; many of his best wins did not come from brilliant tactical shots). Ubiquitous engine analysis now tends to strip the mystique. If you're watching live I recommend keeping eval bar and engine off for this reason. Unfortunately many broadcasters keep these on in their video so it's hard to avoid unless you only want to want the raw DGT board feed.

>I don't understand how he could amass such a following.
It's a couple things. Stjepan is right around the typical serious adult improver plateau. Adult improver meaning someone who first picked up the game in their 20s or later with only 'know how pieces move' background prior to that. Second, Stjepan takes it very seriously. He quit his job to pursue this. When things go well he's ecstatic. They they go poorly he's so devastated it looks like he's near suicidal. Stjepan is the perfect case study on how brutal the adult improver wall truly is for most people. It's an insight in to why there has never been a truly adult improver GM (played to high level as child/teenager, quit, returned and later made GM is not the same).
>>
>>502346304
is it even possible to break through the plateau
feels hopeless
>>
>>502344842
The reason why he's ""shilled"" here is because it's hilarious how bad he plays for how seriously he takes the game. Now that he's hard struck and doesn't seem to be capable of improving what he's lacking is even more hilarious
The reason he became popular is because he's decently high rated for someone who started later in life and many normies live vicariously through him.
>look he's 2200 lishit, that means I could too reach 2000 fide he's just like me fr fr
>>
>>502347139
I wonder. The only thing I can point to that Stjepan lacks is a serious coach. He has his FM buddy but, judging by the lesson videos he posted, it's not a structured training. The FM isn't a good teacher and he's far too casual. Stjepan's problems aren't subtle. He needs hard work on very specific areas of his skillset. If a coach could make him do that maybe he could reach 2200 and get some NM type title. I think FM/2300 might be a bridge too far.
>>
>>502344842
He amassed a following because he used to make videos on every opening under the sun. So if you want to learn about literally any opening then he made a youtube video on it.
>>
>>502340106
this is a sad truth in literally any game where "mistake punishing" is a core element (so chess, poker, most video games, etc)
in general, the correct way to play mistake-punishing games is to simply never make any mistakes yourself. when your opponent makes a mistake, it'd be a mistake for you to not punish that mistake, and so on
what's interesting about this dynamic is when extremely skilled players like magnus intentionally "make a mistake" to make the game state enter a weird/unstudied one, under the pretense that his opponent will make more mistakes in this world than he will. but again, it all boils down to not making mistakes while baiting mistakes out of your opponents
and with that said i'd like to remind everyone to play bullet and 3+0. it's a superior format simply because people make more mistakes in them
>>
>>502349927

>FM/2300
2200-2300 is just good calculation+decent tactics skills+a solid modern repertoire that you know inside out
Stjepan lacks in all these areas
>>
>>502352653
The holes in his opening knowledge are bizarre to me. Like video yesterday the opponent plays a somewhat early c5 break in a qgd exchange. Somehow Stjepan is completely thrown off by this. His main thing is studying openings so why is a thematic pawn break at a slightly different time than expected such a problem?

This is true, he doesn't have a real coach, he just fucks around with his friends and calls that "coaching", if he is serious about it he has to pay for it, he should look on Lichess or whatever, but I believe he is too proud and egotistic to do that, I think he wants to "make it" without a coach, likely to say " I DID IT ALL BY MYSELF" and to prove a point or something.

Pic related is somewhat true, I get that it makes you angry the fact that your opponent is playing fast but what else can you do? Just play the game and don't get your panties in a twist.

>His main thing is studying openings
It's because his main things is memorizing openings, not studying them. He doesn't understand the ideas of many of his openings and the moments he's out of his memorized lines he doesn't know what to do
>>
>>502354681
Is that because of his weakness with tactics? Maybe it all comes down to that.
>>
>>502354921
A long time ago an anon said that the kind of people that take up chess and start with London, Caro, etc... get their tactics/attack intuition damaged severely, remember that he wants to be Karpov/Petrosyan so bad, but he forgets that they were master tacticians first before being positional kings. He needs visualization and a real coach to attack those weaknesses.

also, he said that he's studying tactics from a book now! I don't know what book but I remember in one of his videos he said something like " I study tactics on Lichess 4 hours a day"
>>
>>502354921
Neah, its a different thing althogheter. When you're studying opening you're supposed to learn
>plans/pawn structure
>optimum piece placement
>tactical motifs/traps for that particular opening
>endgames that may arise
and only after you're familiar with those general ideas you learn concrete lines.
What he does is just memorization: he goes there I go there he goes there I go there
Whenever his opponent deviates, he has no idea what plans to employ and his strength drops at least 300 points
>>
>>502355550

I study the lines, then play some games and forget everything in the heat of battle, then go back to my studies and figure out the move I should have played. Then when the taste of defeat is associated with it, I tend to remember it better.

Usually +1 means winning material in the relative short term, but I don't like the +1 positions that put my Queen in an awkward position or blow my King wide open to do so or where you have to find a series of "only moves" to escape with your +1 pawn advantage. If the evaluation is less than +1 for me, I'll usually pick the best move that makes sense to me or is most consistent with the rest of my repertoire.
>>
>>502453903
>Usually +1 means winning material in the relative short term
lol
>>
>>502454230
In my experience. But I'm not as experienced as many of you, so can you elucidate what you mean by scoffing at what I said? In my admittedly limited experience, when the engine says +1 or greater, it typically (>50% of the time) means winning material in the next several moves, whereas if it's less than +1 but still positive, it means having some kind of positional advantage.
>>
>>502454525
I'm not the scoffer but I agree with his sentiment. In my experience +1 usually means positional advantage. You're correct that you're not gonna win material for free if it's less than +1, but I disagree (at least in my games) that +1 or +2 usually means immediate material gain.
>>
>>502454525
>In my admittedly limited experience, when the engine says +1 or greater, it typically (>50% of the time) means winning material in the next several moves,
This is completely wrong. This is +1: e4 g6 d4 Nh6. That is to say that +1 generally means some positional edge which is only meaningful for good players.

I think when Stjepan does "tactics" training, he uses difficult tactics books aka chess study books which are different to tactical books in that they don't always have obvious answers or continuations. Chess books which focus on study positions usually blend postional and tactical ideas in 1 position. Anyway, his vision for easy tactics is bad. I bet he he thinks "I'm 2000 FIDE so I should be studying Aagard's Grandmaster Preparation!" but what he really should be doing is setting the rating range on chesstempo to 900-1200 and spamming easy forks, skewers, mate in 1s, mate in 2s, mate in 3s, and so on, until he stops missing them in his games. He's the type of arrogant person to think this is below him, so he probably won't do it, which is a good thing for us because he's turning into /chess/'s new LOLCOW, and I want to milk these LOLs as much as possible because he blocked me on lichess after I tried to earnestly help him.

All the games when i play the english are like this. Very carefully advance and squeeze, late middle game time pressure, ill advised attacks to finish the job because I got impatient, careful positional advance becomes not so careful, i let some pieces out of jail. Shit flinging commences and somebody wins in the chaos.

The moral of the story here is I could just play a maximum aggressive opening and skip all this foreplay. It's going to get there anyway what's the point.

but if my opponents are good they wont fall for traps
>>
>>502542632
Getting good at chess is just setting increasingly more subtle traps while not falling for them yourself.
>>
>>502542632
as long as the trap isn't a pure one trick pony, you have compensation most of the time. Not fish approved compensation, usually, but you have something. You get a development lead, other side is up some material but their coordination is all shitty and stupid now. Best kind of trappy openings have a flowchart of sorts where it's a wave of attacking ideas that all branch off from each other depending how opponent responds. White side of Sicilians can get like this immediately even without playing the most direct path to it with the smith morra.

I maintain that this is both more fun and easier to play for adult improvers. Trying to playing a slower squeeze like Stjepan is masochistic to me. You aren't that good at calculation or tactics and somehow you expect to win games with a style that relies on seeing every fucking thing available to your opponent on the board and precisely shutting it all down while still maintaining an initiative. It's really hard to play like that AND you will like total garbage when you inevitably lose control. Like Stjepan. Don't take that road. It's suffering.

They replied back. Nothing interesting. Just a formulaic "we passed this on to management".

The world is unprepared for such a thing, but it's a great idea unironically.

Between 25-40 mark is them discussing cheating. Anish references (no name) a well liked, jovial, fun loving guy. He is talking about danya.

Hello /chess/, >>>/vg/vrg/ tourist here
Reminder that over there we are regularly playing chess in vrchat and that next session is today at 21:00CET/20:00UTC (~3h30 from now)
We'll play 1h of chess before switching to mahjong, but people who wants to stay for chess can keep the instance alive if they want to.
