As for the food, I think at tinker's camp you can learn an anatomy skill that makes more corpses drop. Once you get a little money and a better weapon you just buy foods from the innkeeper.And if you're struggling on money I think crafting and selling items is one way to make some (go to the beach for palau wood), also any class should be able to craft a lute and start training music (also from tinkers iirc)
