Sometimes I really wish I had more time and motivation to catalogue worlds more. Over the years I've gone through thousands of maps easily and saved a bit shy of a thousand or so but for every map I've saved I probably don't save 5-10 at least. Many of those maps I never save aren't bad they're just not ideal for running around with a medium sized group to look at usually due to being too compact/short/unperformant/download size being astronomical. It feels kinda melancholic seeing some of these interesting worlds because so many are just forgotten. Sometimes I'll come across forgotten gems, large beautiful maps from 2018-2019 unbroken by updates or quietly fixed by their creators with hundreds of thousands of visits only for them to now sit dormant seemingly untouched for weeks or months at a time while they had hundreds of concurrent players at their peak. I think it's become one of my strangest and persistent reminders of the passage to time, seeing places where people gather by the hundreds of thousands slowly go quiet and fade from memory. Moving on to new maps isn't a bad thing inherently but the limited favorites and inconvenience of having to use things like vrcx or personal resources to catalogue maps means that when people start bump them off their favorites as time passes to replace them with newer maps they might as well have ceased to exist due to how poor the world discovery in place is. Even the maps that I have kept on my 400 available favorites slots I could point to memories on nearly all of them. Scrolling back and seeing lesser remembered maps or even iconic maps all slowly in memory decay. It gets harder to remember without looking back through logs and pictures every day that passes.

Doing the puzzles in gumball lounge 3.0 just to crash and do them all over again. Watching one of our goofballs do coke off random booth ass in Riverside Bungalow. So many pleasant nights falling asleep in that cozy room in Winter Company. Every month I go through my favorites and see another random map was set to private, removed, or broken by an update. The memories remain and I try to keep them alive inside myself but I know eventually some of these worlds will slip off my favorites and finally to the back of my mind. Realizing it will all fade from me eventually was initially excruciating but over time I've slowly come to terms with it. I try to take a lot more pictures than I used to as a small reminder of all the random places I've been but I know for every world and moment I've taken a picture there are dozens or hundreds that remain only in my slowly fading memory. Sorry for blog posting. If you've got a picture of a memory from somewhere I'd enjoy seeing or reading about it. I'll get off my soap box now, have a good day anon.

Vail has numbers due to crossplay with standalone along with a recent free-to-play offering for access to the hub area, though it suffers the screaming kid problem during children's play time. Breachers gets played occasionally if you're looking for something similar to rainbow six though otherwise can be a bit thin on the ground players wise. If you're looking for any singleplayer/co-op shooter experiences, try out Into the Radius (Stalker-like), Crossfire: Sierra Squad (arcadey military shooter with a campaign) and The Light Brigade (Rougelike with WW1 weapons and magic). VR ports of your favourite shooters can work pretty well too (though you'd probably need to put effort into gathering players like with Q3A). An easy recommendation is Half Life 2 VR (along with the episodes), which is free if you own the base game. It is easily the best way to experience Half Life 2 and I'm saddened it doesn't come with a VR version of deathmatch that we could all play.

Metacity Patrol also just got an update. Now you can pimp your aircar some more with glass panels in floor, NPCs have more variation and aircar stabilisation can be turned off. But most importantly - there's now story missions with some world lore and building interiors. That means that there's some 80 buildings around the city you can just land on and explore with chance of random evidence or synth in each of ten floors. I don't think you can turn it off and the graphics settings for the PCVR version were gutted when the game got ported to Quest. Half of the options seem to do nothing and things like the LODs used to be much better than they are. I now have almost 3 hours of Metacity Patrol footage recorded, most of it being comfy in the streets. The new UI is bit of meh, the large popup is annoying but I get that the single line of text in corner of screen was easy to miss. Exploring the buildings is the real fun in this update, finding random pickups, few credits and getting into surprise gunfights in comfy interiors is nice. It also doesn't seem to be instanced at all, the buildings are part of the upper city and you can watch the traffic and stuff. NPCs now have varied clothing and look less uniform and holy shit does it make the streets feel more alive. At this point this blows LOW-FI out of the water in every regard. Honestly even graphically, LOW-FI feels like pile of polished asset store shit glued together while Metacity looks and feels like Deus Ex, lowpoly and lowres but actually original and artistically coherent.

I use them with a quest pro so I have to do a figure 8 with em every time I hop on VR.I didn't have any issues with setup and calibrating, but since these things use cameras YMMV. It's also due to this nature that I don't openly recommend them to people.

All VR MMOs eventually die from no players because no one spends as long in VR as they do in a flat game in one sitting.I think the most fun I had in a VR MMO was township tale. Our field trip the orange boat took us on, teaching us game mechanics and showing us around was really great. Crafting was really good too. Only problem was it ran like ass and could barely hold four people at a time. The layout of the town also sucked and was way too spread out. It also looked like shit. There was very little that made me actually want to continue playing it.
