I have two problems with "The New War" and I don't even know which one is bigger.First - I hate that Ballas is villain again and because of that we have to deal with a story about a family abuse where a woman with no child gets an orphan and loves them more than her obsessive narcissistic boyfriend. It really felt like creators (Rebb or Steve) wanted to get this out of their system. I mean, really? "MAN BAD" again? A more interesting development would be making Lotus THE villain.We stab Ballas and after he served his purpose, he just becomes a toy for Sentients. He's still an asshole, but it would be a wonderful tragedy, almost poetic justice - yeah, even this monster loved Margulis so much, he went to betray his whole civilization - and for what? Just to get a poor imitation of his love through Lotus.And then, it would actually make a really fucking bold statement about growing up. This whole time Lotus was basically gaslighting us - maybe even not knowing this herself, but her primary goal was really just to destroy any chance for resistance against Sentients. And then, through Tenno, she achieved that goal - and now she doesn't need us anymore. And for Tenno to grow up they have to confront that Lying Evil Mother archetype who they believed was the only close person they had - but then realizing ordinary people like us and love us even more - and they're really the one who ARE close to us. And then we go and defeat the Lotus, who at the end shares tears that even pretending to be a mother was the best part of her life - but her "true family" robbed her of it. That way Lotus would still be somewhat redeemed, but her whole saga would be complete. Ballas would die trying to save us from a fatal blow, somewhat redeeming himself at the end too.And after that - yeah, Sentients are still there and we still need to protect the System, but without their leaders they aren't that big of a problem. But Tenno need to move on now - they're grown people now
